It's Not Just the FBI: The IRS goes into ‘Beast Mode'
2023-06-26
[American Thinker] We have seen for some time how off-the-rails the FBI has become, a danger to a free society. More and more evidence now shows it’s not just the FBI. Every federal employee with a badge and gun seems to think he’s a law unto himself. This week the spotlight is on the IRS, and the Congress has to step up and rein the agency in.

While Matt Taibbi was testifying before Congress on the administration’s extensive censoring of social media content, the IRS appeared at his door, ostensibly to question him about his taxes, but obviously to intimidate him for showing up government censorship.

#17   Well Rage, I got the Sheriff that delivered the letter from the IRS.

It can vary, that's for sure. Twenty years ago I worked with a lawyer who had a client who owed the IRS major cash; can't remember how much. One day they went to repo his Ford truck with 150,000 miles on it. The lineup of law enforcement involved was impressive - one local cop, one local sheriff, a Mass. state trooper, two IRS agents and one from the Treasury were all on the scene. Talk about overkill...

#16  Perhaps those employing an eminent tax accountant like Raj get the courtesy of an actual IRS staffer, while mere citizens like Skidmark get a member of local law enforcement running errands when they should be on their lunch hour.

#14   The IRS is doing more than taxes.

This is not new. The IRS went after TEa partyers and TEA party groups, pro-Israel and conservative Jewish groups, and others in an organized fashion heading into the 2012 presidential campaign — it’s all in the Rantburg archives. And it was so smoothly done that I have to assume that, like the FBI, the IRS has been doing this kind of thing for much longer, but there were no serious independent news groups able to get the information out to the general public, back when the mainstream media really did control the airwaves.

#13  the IRS does not show up at your door unless you owe them a lot of money (say, $25K or more)

No.
They send the Sheriff.

No - they send an IRS agent. I do books on the Cape for someone who owes lots & lots to them (over $100K)and three years ago I was there when one IRS agent showed up from their Hyannis, MA office. I talked to him for a few minutes and he left. That's what happens in normal cases.

#12  The trafficking thing keeps coming up with Hunter, but it is not explained. The charge is not something that I feel comfortable researching myself. I saw enough unsolicited pictures when I used to use GETTR. My assumption is that he was a customer of hookers that were provided by pimps that are by definition traffickers. I do not state this assumption in defense of Hunter in particular or johns in general. If Hunter is the vendor rather than the customer in the trafficking charges, the plea deal that lets him walk will be even more egregious.

#11  The IRS is doing more than taxes. They raided the gun shop in Montana and took ZERO financial information. The only thing they took were the FBI background check forms... Expect it to get more interesting as they get gunned up and dont need the sheriffs...

#8  File Pic Example from the US postal department

I’ve never seen anything like that, NN2N1. Has your main regional post office hired new staff or acquired a new sorting machine?

#6  Have the IRS and State approve the submitted return.

That already happens on an e-filed tax return. The tax authority gives you a 20 digit Submission Identification Number (SID) once it's accepted. In Taibbi's case the 2018 tax return had such a number but the IRS got caught in a lie (one of many) and said they never got the return.

With respect to Taibbi's case I wanted to give him a monster e-mail pointing out the many things the IRS did that is (to put it mildly) inconsistent with their normal procedures. First among them is this - the IRS does not show up at your door unless you owe them a lot of money (say, $25K or more) and you've been blowing them off.

#5  BTW: anyone else recently getting more personal / Family US Mail that was "accidentally" damaged, opened along the seam, then placed in a clear plastic pouch to be delivered a few days later than usual?

File Pic Example from the US postal department expressing their apologies?

#3  /\ Your taxes were examined by multiple reviewers or auditors on successive dates ?

#2  Riddle me this.
How can person file taxes using IRS approved commercial Federal and State Software. Have the IRS and State approve the submitted return.

Then several weeks later the IRS sends a check for overpayment the IRS found.

Then 2 months later the IRS sends a letter telling the taxpayer now they under paid and now owe $$?

The IRS system has become one #$%^-up mess to say the least.

A top to bottom overhaul and a balance budget amendment is a must.

Support a standard FLAT TAX that EVERYONE equally pays.

IRS Historical Strange and Craziness History.
