According to the Minister of the Interior of France , Gerald Darmanin , this year the holiday was held under the close supervision of the security forces due to the recent unrest in the country.
During the day, the police received data on 255 burned cars. Law enforcement officers made 96 arrests, with 53 in Paris. Seven policemen, gendarmes and firefighters were injured.
“There were festivities, concerts and fireworks all over France, and compared to 2022, the damage has significantly decreased,” Darmanin said.
Today, the French Interior Ministry has mobilized 45,000 police and gendarmes to maintain order.
