#3 A lovely young woman and talented actress. A bit too much of both. Her big break was supposed to be in "The Big Sleep" with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Bogart was worried that Vickers would upstage Bacall who had just hit the big time a year before in "To Have and Have Not."
So, he went to the producer and director and demanded that most of Vickers scenes be cut or reduced. They did it because Bogart was a huge star and they didn't want to anger him.
The film was recut and Vickers had only a small number of scenes. Which sort of screwed up the continuity of the story, but no one seemed to mind. |
