T-Mobile US to axe 5,000 jobs as customer acquistion expenses bite

[GEO.TV] T-Mobile US has announced to reduce its workforce by nearly 5,000 positions, which accounts for approximately 7% of its employees in the United States, Rooters reported.

This move comes as the telecommunications giant addresses the challenge of elevated expenses related to customer acquisition.

Over the course of the next five weeks, T-Mobile plans to carry out these job reductions, focusing on roles within the corporate, back-office, and certain technology departments.

CEO Mike Sievert conveyed this information to staff through an email communication.

It's important to note that the retail and consumer care sectors will remain unaffected by these adjustments, as clarified by the company.

In anticipation of these changes, T-Mobile foresees an estimated pre-tax cost of around $450 million during the third quarter.

In early trading, the company's shares experienced a decrease of approximately 0.4%.

#3  My last couple of visits to a T-Mobile shop did not instill confidence in the quality of employees. The one time, the clerk was more interested in what popped up on her cell phone than giving me, a potential customer, a modicum of attention. The next time, the guy, while going through the motions in "assisting' me, was more concerned with his dance moves.

They've also had a data breach or two. What a joke.

#2  I've been on T-Mobile for 10+ years, and the service has steadily, gradually gotten worse every year. I originally switched while working at a T-Mobile competitor, and it was cheaper than my employer's service even with the employee discount.

#1  I remember when computers arrived. More money, more free time and a positive impact on humanity. Actual result was staff cuts. No benefits as presented. Now with AI the same rosy picture of the future. The upper management of the corporate world loves AI. Useful tool to cut management overhead. People again only seem to be an expense, an overhead. Improve bottom line while elite ride above the storm. Lose contact with contacts and you lose market share very fast.

Railroad massively recruited people and overwhelmed staff. Two week newbie had trainer first week. Second week alone and was killed.Trainers recalled for update to prevent another death. Goal was just to massively infuse new workers(bonuses offered headhunters).
