Egypt: Free access to military museums to mark 50th anniversary of October War victory
2023-10-03
Astonishingly enough, they’re serious. And in a meta sense, since they got back territory they’d lost in their previous wars of attempted conquest, did not lose Cairo to Ariel Sharon’s rampaging tanks, and have received billions of dollars from Uncle Sugar, the miles of dead Egyptian soldiers and abandoned war matériel don’t really matter.
[AlAhram] Military museums will open their doors to the public for free from 1 to 6 October, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the victory in the 6th of October War, according to a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces front man.

The museums include the October War Panorama in Nasr City, along with the three military museums located at al-Alamein, Port Said, and Saladin Citadel, the statement said.

The military spokesperson emphasized that this initiative will promote military and national awareness among the youth. It aims to acquaint them with the valor and heroism displayed by Egyptians in the Armed Forces, as well as their sacrifices in defence of the nation's honour, the front man said.

Additionally, the Cabinet declared Thursday, 5 October as a paid holiday for public sector employees.

This year, Egypt celebrates the 50th anniversary of its historic triumph over Israel, a victory that led to the liberation of Sinai and was achieved under the leadership of the late President Anwar El-Sadat.
