[REGNUM] A mass grave of victims of the Volyn massacre was discovered in the Ternopil region of Ukraine. Member of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland Michal Dworczyk reported this on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Dvorchik said that the remains were found in the former village of Puzhniky, Chortkiv district, Ternopil region.
“ This is the first time in more than nine years that the remains of Poles, victims of Ukrainian nationalists, have been found in Ukraine. The search was carried out by specialists (archaeologists, anthropologists) of the Polish genetic database of victims of totalitarianism ,” said a member of the Council of Ministers.
Dworczyk also noted that, in accordance with current legislation, the Ukrainian authorities were asked to agree to the exhumation, research and dignified burial of human remains.
The Volyn massacre was a mass extermination of the Polish population in northwestern Ukraine by Ukrainian nationalists during World War II in 1943–1944, which led to the death of up to 130 thousand people. The Polish authorities classify these events as genocide of the Poles.
As IA Regnum previously reported , Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Lukasz Yasin was fired because of statements about Volyn. Prior to this, a representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry said that the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, should apologize to the Poles for the Volyn massacre. According to the diplomat, the issue of those events needs to be voiced at the highest level, since it is Kyiv that blocks its discussion during contacts between the two sides. The representative of the Foreign Ministry emphasized that the Ukrainian leader must take on more responsibility, since the Ukrainian state has not done this before.
