As alarming as this acceptance might sound, there are no intellectually honest people who would deny it. Let’s stop the wishful thinking and face the stark reality: There is a clear path to dictatorship in the United States, and it is getting shorter every day. In 13 weeks, Donald Trump will have locked up the Republican nomination. In the RealClearPolitics poll average (for the period from Nov. 9 to 20), Trump leads his nearest competitor by 47 points and leads the rest of the field combined by 27 points. The idea that he is unelectable in the general election is nonsense — he is tied or ahead of President Biden in all the latest polls — stripping other Republican challengers of their own stated reasons for existence. | |

| #14 I suspect Kagan's remarks were not an actual call to action but a threat designed to get Trump to drop-out. I agree with Super Hose and think the CIA and Kagan know this is likely as well. I think the reverse might happen. Someone might take a go at the Democratic President. Even if they fail it could be blamed on an Ultra Mega whacko and used to push in a new candidate with an instant boost. if people believed it, that is. |

| #9 Kagan’s plan is dumb like most of Victoria’s are. Given an excuse American people would toss out all the current people at gunpoint. The military and police would stand by or help. The FBI and CIA would cease to exist. There would be a bunch of powerful people entombed or held in GITMO. I am not a purveyor of The Plan or Devolution, but taking a pot shot at The Donald even if it misses will put MAGA in charge with a mandate to dismantle everything that Robert Kagan loves. Americans only tolerate our current government. Many of the bureaucrats have the misperception that they are intrinsically powerful. That holds only so long as they don’t do anything to cause us to chuck the Status Quo. |

| #7 I think an attempt on Donald J Trump’s life would have a much different result than the JFK assassination that Mr Kagan is not taking into account. For instance, what was the percentage of Americans that believed that JFK was killed by our government within the first 24 hours of his death? How would that percentage differ if anyone, government or not, took a shot at DJT that the American people were aware of? I believe there have been some attempts on his life, but they were not made public. Let’s extrapolate further. What percentage of DJT supporters are permanently armed, i.e. own guns and won’t surrender them? What percentage of local law enforcement supports DJT? How about the grunt level military? Would all governors activate guard personnel and turn them over to the national government? Would MAGA folks express their displeasure by looting private businesses and burning their own neighborhoods? What will happen to Fed instigators in a case where MAGA is armed, masked and has left their cell phones at home? Maybe Mr Kagan should reconsider his threat. |
