It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. ese army under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane is on fire with the United Arab Emirates, accused of supporting his rival in the war, General Mohammed Hamdane Daglo.

harangue to his troops on 28 November, he accused the Emirates of having sent arms to the RSF via Uganda and the Central African Republic since the start of the war on 15 April "with the help of Wagner", the Russian mercenary group that once had a strong presence in Bangui.

When contacted by AFP, the Emirati authorities did not respond.

#1  It is well known that the UAE has supported the RSF force. There exists, apparently, no explanation why that should be. Just why the Arab UAE is supporting the non-Arab tribals of the western Sudan is cause for speculation. One possible answer: The laissez-faire UAE opposes Islamist led military dictatorships. (Not a great response, but I'm groping for another.)
