| As war intensifies, Al-Shabaab Commander Defects to Somali Forces |

Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... commander surrendered to the Somali National Army (SNA) on Saturday in the Southwest state as the troops ramped up operations. Samow Ibrahim who was in charge of the group’s operations in the southern region surrendered to the Somali army’s 60 Battalion based in the Southwest with an AK47 rifle and ammunition. "Please don't kill me" Ibrahim fought for al-Shabaab for five years and his ditch came after he made successful contact with the officials about his surrender to the army, according to the reports. The officials in Southwest State said that the army will welcome any bully boy who is willing to surrender in line with the government’s amnesty offer for all al-Shabaab members. There was no immediate comment from the al-Qaeda-linked group which has been fighting to overthrow the internationally recognized government led by president Hassan Sheikh. |
