2023 hottest year on record as Earth nears critical 1.5C limit, monitor says
2024-01-10
After the project finally crashes and burns, they’re going to have to reconstitute temperature records from tree rings and glacier samples, just to find out what really happened.
[IsraelTimes] 2023 was the hottest year on record, with Earth’s surface nearly breaching the critical limit of 1.5 degree Celsius above late 19th century temperatures, the EU climate monitoring service says.

"It is also the first year with all days over one degree warmer than the pre-industrial period," says Samantha Burgess, deputy head of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). "Temperatures during 2023 likely exceed those of any period in at least the last 100,000 years."
I look forward to the Watts Up With That crowd fisking this claim.

#16  Watts Up With That has not yet addressed the question directly, but today they had this:

Bloomberg: “Don’t be Fooled, Snow is Becoming a Thing of the Past”

Ignore your lying eyes, what you are seeing is frozen heaps of global warming?

#15  I remember Thurman Thomas kicking KC's ass every time, in the same predicted weather.

I think its the people who can still afford tickets being pussies.

#14  Speaking of KC and temperature, the forecast for the KC-Miami game is brutal. Game time Temperature may be below zero F for only the 5th time in an NFL game played in the open air (at least since 1967, I'm not sure they kept track before that).

Deadly storm that wreaked havoc across the US sets its sights on NYC and the Northeast bringing torrential downpours and flooding overnight as forecasters warn 55 MILLION could lose power

While on her way to make some music on Tuesday, Taylor Swift, 34, turned heads as she emerged from her vehicle in the rainy weather and made a beeline into the studio

An inch and a half of rain in NYC and the eldritch ancestors emerge.
The horror. The horror.

I guess Kansas doesn't have a brand because we don't bitch about it.

"The movement of tectonic plates has created a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches and chains of volcanoes stretching for twenty-five thousand miles."

#6  World wide Temperature in 2022 and 2023 was influenced by the Tonga eruption in early 2022. This event resulted in about 50M tons of water vapor added to the stratosphere.

In 2023, a strong El Nino added substantial heat to the troposphere.

Both the satellites and near ground level records consistently showed warming above long term of about 0.3 degrees C for 2023.
