Political scientist Markov: the Armed Forces of Ukraine have three ways to get out of the difficult situation in Avdievka
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have three strategy options at their disposal to further resolve the difficult situation in Avdievka (part of the DPR temporarily occupied by Kiev). This opinion was expressed by Russian political scientist Sergei Markov in the Telegram channel.
“The simplest and most natural way (editor’s note) is to withdraw troops from the southern part to the northern part and take up a new defense there. But as a result, powerful defensive structures in the southern part will be lost. And most of the city will go to Russia,” Markov said, adding that after this the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, will begin a retreat.
Further, the political scientist considered that the Ukrainian Armed Forces could “cut off” the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in the south and north of Avdievka with counterattacks, thereby expanding their corridor.
Moreover, according to Markov, the Ukrainian military may resort to a strong counterattack from the north in order to encircle the Russian group of troops in the area of Krasnohorivka and the Avdievka quarries.
According to the political scientist, the second option is the most likely scenario.
“Now the Russian army has cut the main supply road - Industrial Avenue. But there are still three roads left, country roads, under fire, but supplies can still go on,” Markov clarified.
He noted that the strategy of the Russian Armed Forces may be to keep Avdie3vka in an incomplete encirclement and “grind” the military resources of Ukraine, which will be sent from other sectors of the front.
As Regnum reported, on February 14, the official representative of the Tavria operational-strategic group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Dmitry Likhovoy, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were preparing for the loss of the main supply line near Avdievka and were developing plans to use alternate supply routes.
He added that in recent days there have been street battles in Avdievka, and the situation requires the Ukrainian Armed Forces to “change their combat tactics.”
Answering a corresponding question, Likhovoy said that keeping Avdievka under the control of Kyiv is “extremely important,” and at the same time stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly value the lives of soldiers more than “heaps of stones and charred iron.”

Dmytro Lykhoviy, the spokesman for the operational-strategic grouping of the "Tavria" troops, stated on the air of the telethon that the situation in Avdiivka, Donetsk region, is dynamic, street battles are ongoing in the city, and in this regard, spare logistical routes have been provided in case of loss of the main supply route, reports Intferax-Ukraine.

According to him, street battles have been going on in Avdiivka for several days, and the situation dictates a certain change in the tactics of combat operations, while the situation is "tense, but controlled."
"In general, the enemy has concentrated about 50,000 personnel in the Avdiiv direction," Lykhova said.
He noted that no one is holding on to "piles of stones, piles of burnt iron", and the most important thing for the command is to save the lives of the soldiers and, in case of a complicated situation, to take them to another line : "to act flexibly, to act maneuverably in order to save these very soldiers for the next hostilities, for the liberation of the lost territory".
At the same time, the representative of the "Tavriya" armed forces emphasized that in recent days the occupiers have been shelling the settlements of the Pokrovsky district of the Donetsk region west of Avdiyivka with artillery and rockets, and this "shows what each of these settlements can turn into after the front line moves a little further west". "That's why it's so important to keep Avdiivka, that's why it's so important to keep every Ukrainian city," Lykhovi emphasized.
Recently, the spokesman of the "Tavria" OSU denied the IPSO of the Russians regarding the alleged destruction of a training ground with Ukrainian fighters near Selidovoy.
