Shoigu: the operation to liberate Avdievka was carried out with minimal losses of the Russian Armed Forces
The operation to liberate Avdievka (DPR) will go down in the history books, said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. On February 20, the minister presented a report to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
As Shoigu indicated, preparations for the operation to liberate Avdievka began in the fall of 2023. The General Staff managed to carry it out with minimal losses. The Russian Armed Forces carried out up to 450 precision airstrikes per day during the liberation of Avdievka. Russian troops created unbearable conditions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city, and the enemy was forced to flee. Shoigu recalled that the fortified area with underground lines in Avdievka took nine years to create, and the destruction of the resistance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this city was a huge success.
After the capture of Avdievka, offensive operations will continue to the west, 72 km have already been liberated.
“The enemy left many wounded in Avdievka, many weapons were abandoned,” Shoigu reported to the president.
According to him, work has already begun on demining the city, but due to the chaotic withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, they did not have time to specifically mine anything.
After hearing the report, the president noted that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine gave the order to withdraw from Avdievka when the Ukrainian military had already fled from there. Vladimir Putin said that all participants in the special operation to liberate Avdievka deserve the highest awards.
On February 17, Minister Shoigu at 04:00 Moscow time reported to Putin about the liberation of Avdievka. The next report followed at 11 am the same day about the complete completion of the operation. The enemy fled, abandoning their weapons and equipment. Shoigu emphasized that the liberation of Avdievka made it possible to move the front line away from Donetsk and, therefore, significantly protect the city from attacks by the Kyiv regime.
Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian military personnel on this success and important victory on the battlefield.
On February 20, it became known that Avdievka had been completely cleared of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is expected that after demining the city, it will be possible to begin its restoration.
