Food stamps: Montana March SNAP payments worth up to $1,751 to begin in three days
2024-02-29
[Washington Examiner] Montana’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will begin sending its March payments, worth up to $1,751, in three days.

SNAP payments in Montana are distributed over five days every month. The payments start going out on Saturday and run through March 6. Recipients get their payments on days according to their SNAP case number, account number, Social Security number, or last name.

To qualify for SNAP payments in Montana, a single-person household cannot have a net monthly income exceeding $1,215, and an eight-person household cannot have a net monthly income exceeding $4,214.

Household sizes determine recipients’ SNAP payment amounts. Single-person households receive $291 per month, while eight-person households receive up to $1,751 per month. In households larger than eight, $219 is added for each additional person.

SNAP benefits can be used at participating locations, including farmers markets and grocery stores. The payments are automatically loaded on an electronic benefits transfer card every month.

#4  I am reminded of a case from the very rural central valley of California in the mid-1990's, involving a gas station/convenience store, owned by Middle Eastern immigrants, that had a low six-figure monthly Food Stamp reimbursement cash flow. Then CalDOJ Bureau of Narcotics agents were involved in the investigation and take-down. They reported that the actual foodstuffs and merchandise was mostly out of date, mostly convenince snack foods, and shelf stockage behind the retail floor was small and virtually empty of basic family diet menu items.

The going rate for food stamp fraud varied between 50-60 cents on the dollar for food stamp charges, returned as cash to the indigent for non-existent "food". The connection to local, family related drug dealers was so apparent, they shared banking locations and addresses.

#3  ^ Converting gov't cheese and cans of soup into drug money is cumbersome and time consuming. SNAP really is the way to go.
