2024-03-14 | |
One of Russia's biggest nuclear power plants, in Rostov, is under attack by Ukrainian forces, according to reports. Explosions have been heard near Rostov Nuclear Power Plant in Vologodonsk, Rostov oblast, as Russian air defense are reported to be active at the scene. VK.com reported on Telegram: "In Volgodonsk, terrorists from all over the country are trying to attack the local nuclear power plant. Air defense works." It has been claimed on X that drones were flying above the nuclear power plant. It is not yet clear what the source of the explosions is. The news comes as Ukraine and Russia continue to fight in the ongoing war. Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks on its territory on multiple occasions since Vladimir Putin's soldiers invaded in 2022. Many of these allegations have centered around the city of Belgorod, which lies close to the Ukrainian border. Last week, pro-Ukrainian groups in Russia claimed responsibility for cross-border attacks on Russian territories. The Freedom for Russia Legion – a group of Russian dissidents who have sided with Kyiv – said it had taken control of the village of Tyotkino in Russia’s Kursk region. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that “Ukrainian terrorist formations” tried to cross the border but were "thwarted." Moscow added: “The enemy was struck by aviation, missile forces and artillery." The Defence Ministry said it has taken out tanks and killed 60 Ukrainian soldiers near Odnorobovka, as well as repelling other attacks near Belgorod. The same militia groups claimed to have taken control of the border town of Lozovaya Rudka in the Belgorod region on Tuesday. | |
