#7  ^ Not in West Africa, anyhow. Survivors are presumed to be innocent.

#6  The old double-bind condundrum: "Drink this. If you survive unharmed, that's because you're a sorcerer. We kill all sorcerers. If the drink does kill you, that means you were not a sorcerer" Decisions, decisions.

#3  Tip: If you're forced to take a sasswood test, chug the drink as fast as you can. If you throw up, you're innocent. Word was that the judges would quietly adjust the dosage if they thought you were guilty. I don't know what brew they use in Angola.

#2  "They changed me into a newt."

"Well, you're not a newt right now."

"I got better..."

#1  Typical Witch Trial.
The elders needed an Escape Goat for issues they could not, would not, or failed to handle.

Any one of the 50 should have simply said.

"He is w/o Evil should take the 1st drink."

Then challenge the accusers to the 1st drink to prove they are not the actual witches/evil do'ers.
