Millions of dollars worth of meth unearthed in carrot shipment on the Southern California border
2024-03-23
Whoa! This carrot tastes kinda... strange. And all my remaining teeth just turned brown... And I just killed eleven people with an ax.... At least I think that they were people... And I think it was an ax... Why are you standing upside down?
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine was found tucked away among a cargo of carrots by border staff in Southern California.

A staggering 2,900 pounds of the drug were uncovered after the tractor-trailer during a second inspection of the vehicle on Sunday.

Driven by a 44-year-old man with a valid border crossing card, the carrot shipment appeared to be only vegetables at first glance.

However, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) staff at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility nearby San Diego decided to stop and search the vehicle.

During the second inspection of the carrot haul, officers unearthed hundreds of mysterious orange-colored packages stashed away underneath the carrots and ice.

A total of 574 packages were found buried among the vegetables - and could rack up a street value in the millions according to officials.

After further testing of the suspicious packages, it was confirmed that they contained methamphetamine, according to Fox News.

Otay Mesa Port of Entry port director, Rosa E. Hernandez told Fox News: 'I couldn’t be prouder of the exceptional work by our CBP officers.

'While facilitating lawful trade and travel, our officers steadfastly combat the trafficking of dangerous drugs at our borders.'

The driver was handed to Homeland Security Investigation so they could examine the incident further.

The vehicle driving the shipment has also been recovered by the CBP.

MailOnline has approached Homeland Security for comment.

The discovery is part of Operation Apollo - a joint US regional mission to fight against the ongoing national opioid epidemic.
