The energy giants pocketing £420bn profit while millions struggle with cost-of-living crisis: New data shows 20 firms have made staggering sums since 2020 while hard-up households grappled with soaring bills

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Energy giants have pocketed £420billion in profits in just four years as millions of Britons struggle with soaring bills and the cost-of-living crisis - and fat-cat bosses cash in with seven-figure pay-packets.

New figures reveal the staggering amounts made by 20 utility firms since 2020, amid rising inflation as well as Russia's invasion of Ukraine helping to hike prices.

British Gas, Shell and BP are among the British-based companies who have been making the most, while campaigners say many hard-pressed families are struggling to afford to keep the heating on.

#8  I had a couple friends back in PeeAye who got free gas as a result of allowing an easement for the gas company to cross their properties to get to wells.

#7  Years ago stripper wells in the Midwest that had a steady flow of natural gas (flares) could be piped and regulated to provide energy for rural homes. Don't know if that is still being done or not.

Oil lease pumping engines were also run by gas from a well flare. Again, don't know if that is still done or not either.

#6  A relative had a whole house nat gas powered generator hooked up a few years ago. It can run the house indefinitely as long as there's natural gas coming through the line. It cost her $22,000. Most of that expense was the electric switch and site preparation, gas line extension, etc. The actual generator was a small portion of the total.

#2  Leaving aside that the cost-of-living crisis is from governments effing up the economy, it is a Great Injustice(tm) that someone is poor while someone else is making money. In the name of Decolonization, Ignorance and Equity (DIE), we must dismantle the oil companies and ban the use of fuel so everyone can be poor, cold and equal together.

NOTE:
There has been some recent increases in Electrical power grid emission captures in urban and Rural areas. What I have seen, powered a large TV and a few basic house lights.

BTW: Power companies are now switching out older power meters for meters that allow them & Gov. to remotely or monitor control of your homes power usage.

Interesting that the older meters ""can be acquired" at flea markets for $50+/-
