[REGNUM] The battle for the city of Chasov Yar, which has been going on for three months, is entering a new phase. Russian troops have driven out the Ukrainian Armed Forces units that were holding the line in the urban area and forced them to abandon the Kanal microdistrict. It is located on the left bank of the Seversky Donets-Donbass Canal and divides the city into two unequal parts. The retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was initially reported by unofficial sources on both sides of the conflict, and on July 3 the withdrawal was confirmed by the command of the Ukrainian army.
