| [IsraelTimes] Federation says Gent municipality prohibited the ‘presence of the Israeli delegation,’ citing ‘high risk of public order’ Israeli athletes in Belgium on Wednesday accused the European frisbee federation and local authorities in the Gent area …alternate spelling for Ghent, a terribly picturesque Medieval Flemish university city with a lovely tradition of lace-making. Like the rest of Belgium — and unlike the Netherlands — they have a long tradition of accepting being ruled by others instead of fighting for independence… of discrimination following their exclusion from an international tournament over ostensible security concerns. A spokesperson for the Israeli team of 33 athletes currently in Belgium dismissed the organizers’ reasons for the decision to exclude the team from the four-day tournament. |
