[Regnum] The Russian frigate Shtandart, which is under Western sanctions, has been banned from entering the port of Granville to participate in the sailing ship festival. The corresponding decision was made by the authorities of the Manche department, reports the publication La Manche Libre.
"Following the amendments of 24 June, the EU regulation on restrictive measures related to Russia's actions in Ukraine now includes 'historical replicas of ships' within the framework of the ban on access to ports of member states, as well as ships sailing or sailing under the Russian flag before 24 February 2022," the prefecture said in the order.
It is specified that the Russian ship was invited by the community of Granville-Terre and Mer communes to participate in the Working Sails festival, which will take place from August 21 to 25.
The ship's captain, Vladimir Martus, was familiarized with the document, the publication concluded.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on August 5, the crew of the Russian sailing ship Shtandart was allowed into the port of La Rochelle in France. The frigate was allowed to enter to replenish supplies.
In June, the European Union decided to impose sanctions on 27 cargo ships linked to Russia as part of a new package of restrictive measures, barring them from entering EU ports.
On July 27, the Maritime Authority of the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia ordered the Shtandart to leave Spanish waters. The frigate was at that time off the coast of La Isla de Arousa. A few days later, the sailboat was allowed into the Spanish port of Vigo.
"Shtandart" is an exact replica of the warship built by Peter I in 1703 for the defense of St. Petersburg.
