Secret Service installs bulletproof glass for Trump's outdoor rally in North Carolina
2024-08-21
Wonder how many panels were tested.
[JustTheNews] At his first outdoor rally since the attempted assassination, Trump will try to counter the DNC and secure the key battleground state

The Secret Service has installed bulletproof glass at former President Donald Trump's Wednesday rally in North Carolina.
It’s better than nothing, at least. Transporting it will add an interesting twist to the agents’ daily routine.
This is his first outdoor rally since the one last month in which a sniper attempted to assassinate him.

A "special see-through protective barrier" will separate Trump, now the GOP presidential nominee, from rallygoers, according to The Washington Examiner.

The sniper at the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, shot from a rooftop about 150 yards away from the stage and outside of the Secret Service's inner security ring that included magnetometers, which has prompted several investigations into agency lapses and promises for a review of and improvements to policies and practices.

#9  #7 UAV? After all if Hezbollah can master the tech, why not some, technically competent though leftard otherwise, American kid?

Rather amazing this has not already happened given the wide availability of commercial off-the-shelf drones. I can think of a half-dozen ways to do it that would be really hard to defend against, especially if it was the first instance. Who's up for a nice drone swarm?

Perhaps the overlap between dangerous wokerati lunatics and STEM nerds is not that great.

#8  Why not a full-size round? Like a NATO 7.62? I think I recall--69-71, there were AP rounds along with ball and tracer. Not sure about incendiary, although all had been available in mil 30.06.
Would bullet-proof glass stop a full-size round? Lots of hunting ammo in that ballpark, too.
So I guess the question is what kind of commonly-available ammo will the glass stop?
Going on about AR-15 family of weapons and ammo may restrict the thinking.
When I was in high school, just over sixty years ago, lots of guys, or their fathers, had the 03 Springfield for deer. Fired the mil 30.06. If you lived near Canada, likely to have an Enfield in .303,similar ballistic performance.
And those were the cheap ones. When the US switched to NATO, how many Garands got loose?
I hope somebody's thinking bigger than .223/5.56.

#5  And Trump gave them heart attacks when he stepped out from behind the glass and down to the stands to check on a person that fainted in the heat.

Given everything coming out of the DC Swamp lately. Why do I expect to read soon.....

A Secret Service Spokesperson stated.
We "thought" it was bulletproof.

#3  Next story: in a shocking lapse, shots that killed Trump went straight through defective bulletproof glass, report reveals. The improperly stored glass deteriorated over time and should never have been used, investigators said.
