“We have no illusions that the rampant censorship in the United States will receive a proper assessment from the relevant international structures whose activities are directed by Washington,” she said.
According to her, Moscow qualifies their silence as approval of such practices and actual complicity in the tyranny committed against Russian media.
Zakharova noted that the current American administration is trying to justify the unprecedented repressions against Russian media by the fight against their "interference" in domestic political affairs. In essence, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized, this is yet another commissioned campaign, a "witch hunt."
“A specially cultivated atmosphere of general fear and spy mania allows the ruling circles in the United States to manipulate public opinion and protect the population from any information that is inconvenient for them,” the diplomat added.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on September 13, the US Treasury Department announced the introduction of sanctions against the media group Rossiya Segodnya and its head Dmitry Kiselyov. The department issued a general license requiring the completion of financial transactions with the media group by November 13.
At the same time, on September 4, the US already imposed sanctions against the media group Rossiya Segodnya, RIA Novosti, Sputnik, as well as the RT TV channel and Margarita Simonyan. Washington explained this decision by the fact that the blacklisted media outlets were allegedly involved in interference in the US presidential elections.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States, Britain and Canada had launched a diplomatic campaign to urge allies and partners around the world to join the fight against the threat posed by RT.
Commenting on the introduction of new sanctions against Russian media, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov stated that the American authorities are trying to shift responsibility for their own mistakes made during the electoral struggle onto Moscow.

Moscow will not leave Washington's prohibitive actions against Russian media unanswered. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“The current American administration is trying to justify the unprecedented repressions against Russian media in an extremely cynical manner by citing the fight against their ‘interference’ in domestic political affairs,” says Zakharova’s official commentary, published on the MFA website.
According to the diplomat, the US has launched a commissioned campaign against Russian media, trying on the role of “guardian” of the integrity of democratic processes.
At the same time, Washington has finally trampled on the international obligations it has undertaken to ensure pluralism of opinions and has declared war on freedom of speech throughout the world, Zakharova pointed out.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs qualifies the silence of international organizations as approval of discrimination against Russian media and complicity in it, Zakharova noted.
