Lebanon shorts: 4 Leb hospitals suspend services, UNIFIL forces staying put
2024-10-05
From the Times of Israel liveblog of October 4, 2024:
Four Lebanese hospitals suspend services amid Israeli bombing
I suspect that Hezbollah was using either space inside the hospital or in tunnels underneath for command and control and weapons storage.
At least four hospitals in Lebanon announce the suspension of work amid ongoing Israeli bombardment, while Hezbollah-affiliated rescuers said 11 personnel were killed in Israeli raids in south Lebanon against the terror group.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has urged the international community to pressure Israel “to allow rescue and relief teams to reach bombed sites and allow them to move” casualties, with several dozen emergency personnel killed in recent days.

Sainte Therese Hospital on the edge of Beirut’s southern suburbs reported “huge damage” and said “Israeli warplanes’ targeting… the vicinity” of the facility on Thursday “led to the halt of hospital services,” in a statement carried by the official National News Agency (NNA).

South Lebanon’s Mais al-Jabal hospital on the border with Israel announced “the halt to work of all departments,” citing factors including “enemy targeting of the hospital” since last October and problems for supply lines and staff access.

The comment also comes in a statement on the NNA.

The director of south Lebanon’s Marjayoun governmental hospital, Mouenes Kalakesh, tells AFP that “an Israeli air strike targeted ambulances at the main entrance to the hospital,” killing paramedics who were bringing wounded to the facility.

He says the “staff shortages and today’s bombardment have forced the closure of the hospital,” located less than 10 kilometers (six miles) from the border.

The Islamic Health Committee emergency service, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, said seven emergency personnel died in “direct Zionist aggression on emergency teams” at the Marjayoun hospital, with four others killed in two attacks elsewhere in south.

Report: IDF aiming to wrap up intensive fighting in Lebanon in 2-3 weeks, making way for deals in north and south
And who knows? The horse might even learn to sing.
[IsraelTimes] Channel 12 reports that a senior Israeli security official recently told hostage families that the security establishment currently believes that the IDF’s intensive fighting in the north will conclude in two or three weeks.

The goal will then be to reach a diplomatic agreement with Hezbollah that would allow Israel to secure a hostage deal, the official said.

From the October 6th liveblog:
Hezbollah says it’s in ongoing clashes with Israeli troops in Lebanon border area
Hezbollah says it is engaged in ongoing clashes with Israeli troops in the Lebanon border area, after earlier saying it forced Israeli soldiers to retreat there.

“Israeli enemy soldiers renewed an attempt to advance towards the vicinity of the municipality in the village of Odaisseh” and Hezbollah fighters confronted the attempt “and clashes are continuing,” the group says in a statement.

The Iran-backed Lebanese terror group also says it targeted troops in south Lebanon’s Yaroun area with a “rocket salvo,” as well as soldiers in two points across the border with rockets.

UNIFIL reaffirms peacekeepers staying put in south Lebanon
The United Nations peacekeeping force it Lebanon says it will not leave positions in the country’s south despite what it said was an Israeli request to “relocate.”

“On September 30, the IDF (Israeli military) notified UNIFIL of their intention to undertake limited ground incursions into Lebanon. They also requested we relocate from some of our positions,” the UN Interim Force in Lebanon says in a statement, adding that “peacekeepers remain in all positions and the UN flag continues to fly.”

The organization issued a similar statement on October 1.

#6   IDF says it hit Hezbollah command center at mosque in south Lebanon hospital compound

You mean I was off by 50m and the 111,547,287th holiest place in Islam??? I’m mortified. Who now will believe me omniscient?

Seriously, though, I’m still waking up from my morning nap. I saw something about hitting a mosque, but did not think to connect it to this report.
