#17  My peers from back in the day were chanting that "Land Mines are War Crimes!" along with Cluster Munitions, because Shield/Storm. "Cluster Bombs kill Moms!" or some shit. Wonder how they are squaring this...or not squaring it.

But I was that asshole who showed up for 60's and 70's dress-up days as a US Soldier, so..

#16  They're already in use in the Ukraine. Finland and Estonia are contemplating leaving the Ottawa agreement.

#15  Ukraine is already carpeted with mines. Now at least some of them might benefit the Ukrainians.

#14  I mean, when you're fighting for your life, you're gonna use whatever weapons are available. But Biden is not fighting for his life. He's fighting a chickenshit proxy war that his proxy is gonna lose anyway. All that Biden can do now, all he has ever done, is get people killed. He only has two months before he leaves office but, instead of waiting for Trump, he chooses to escalate, not only with long range missiles, but with a particularly cruel weapon which carries a high probability of killing innocent civilians long after the fighting stops. This is how you know the man and his handlers are evil.

yes Princess Di was a vocal and persistent proponent of banning land mines

however the process of dealing with the landmine issue (she walked across a land mine area in 1997 in Angola) has a long history that precedes Princess Di.

The US position is to use only non persistent land mines. I think many of these have been deployed in Korea

#10  ^Biden (or rather his puppeteers) care.

#9  But I'm sure that even if he understood he wouldn't care.

#8  Biden should understand that these mines will be planted in what is now Ukrainian territory. So, if this war ever ends and if Ukraine somehow manages to regain some of this territory, it will be Ukrainian children who step on the mines.

#7  Land mines are like radioactive fallout. They're the gift that keeps on giving long after the war is over and they don't care who gets it...cows, pigs, children...

#6  ^ so they're banned in Canada?

The Ottawa Treaty of 1997 banned land mines.

It was signed by over 100 countries. The US was NOT as signer of the treaty, neither was Russia. Ukraine did sign the treaty.

#3  Interesting bit of news, if true.
The Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3 has been chased, intercepted, and boarded by Danish Navy vessel Y311 Søløven after the Chinese vessel destroyed 2 undersea telecom cables linking Finland-Germany and Sweden-Lithuania.
