He was a Secret Service Agent on the Presidential detail for the entire war, on the plane for the Casablanca trip, at Yalta and agent in charge at Warm Springs when FDR died. He remained on the detail for Truman for the rest of the War, traveling to Potsdam and the SF conference to establish the UN before transferring to the State Department. In 1958, he was the Chief of Security for the entire State Department and personally ran the Khrushchev visit security, where he was famed for deciding the he would not visit Disneyland.
