| #3 1&2^ Several people have written about why people hold untenable beliefs after getting lots of evidence of the falsehood of the beliefs. Essentially, the pleasure of thinking oneself morally superior is so great that it overwhelms the analytical part of the intellect. It takes a significant emotional experience (like seeing your wife arrested and raped for no crime) or a significant physical one (like being robbed and beaten) to overcome the feeling. Most of this has been explained by defectors from Communism but also from defectors from NYCity and LA leftism. |
