[Regnum] Five people were injured in a shooting near a school in the Swedish city of Örebro. This was reported on February 4 by the publication Aftonbladet, citing the Swedish police.
"The police are on site and the operation is in full swing. The government is in close contact with law enforcement and is closely monitoring developments," said Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer.
According to police spokesman Lars Hedelin, the incident is currently being treated as attempted murder, arson and a serious crime involving the use of a weapon.
Eyewitnesses claim that shots were heard from outside the building. Teachers and students locked themselves in their classrooms. Police advised city residents to temporarily avoid the area.
According to the publication, ambulances have also arrived at the scene. The city hospital is vacating its emergency and intensive care unit to prepare to receive the victims.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on January 22, one student died and one was injured as a result of a shooting by a teenager at a high school in Nashville, USA. The 17-year-old attacker studied at the same school. He died. Police officers are investigating the incident and establishing the circumstances of the incident and the motives of the attacker.

At least five people have been shot and hospitalised in a school shooting incident in the Swedish city of Örebro on Tuesday.
UPDATE 1730: In a press conference, police said that about 10 people have died, including the suspect, as a result of the school shooting in Örebro, Expressen reports. Several people were also hospitalised, including five for gunshot wounds. The police said that the suspect, a 35-year-old male, was not known to them before the attack, and there are currently no links to terrorism or gang activity.
UPDATE 1450: The Aftonbladet newspaper reports that the suspected shooter has died after shooting himself and was, therefore, included among the gunshot victims. The paper said that five people were brought to hospital, four of whom had surgery. Two are reported to be stable, one was only slightly injured, while another is seriously injured. Police have so far not commented on whether any teachers or students were injured during the attack. The paper went on to claim that “several” people have died in the shooting, however, this has yet to be confirmed by officials.
UPDATE 1350: According to the Expressen newspaper, the suspected shooter has shot himself. Yet, police say that it is too early to know if there were more than one perpetrator. Despite initial reports, police say that no officers were shot during the incident, but they did exchange fire with the suspect. Police spokesman Gabriel Henning confirmed that five people were shot, but their conditions are not known.

A major police operation is underway in Örebro given a continued threat to life following an attack on the Risbergska school, which was reportedly carried out with an automatic weapon, Expressen reports.
At least five people have been shot. At least four people have been hospitalised. However, their conditions are currently unclear.
The school’s principal, Mattias Molin, said: “We’ve vacated the school, I don’t know much more than that. We don’t know anything yet.”
According to Aftonbladet, police have ordered several other schools in the area to keep pupils indoors.
The paper also reported that the local hospital had emptied its emergency room and intensive care unit to receive the injured from the attack on Tuesday.
Speaking to Aftonbladet, a person who knew a teacher who works at the school said that he received a text message during the shooting.
“He wrote that automatic weapons are shot at school and that they have taken shelter in a room. Then he wrote that he loves me.”

The gunman is believed to be among those killed, and a search is continuing at the school for other possible victims, the local police chief told a press conference. The perpetrator’s motive was not immediately known.
“We know that 10 or so people have been killed here today. The reason that we can’t be more exact currently is that the extent of the incident is so large,” local police chief Roberto Eid Forest told reporters.
Forest said police believed the gunman had acted alone and that they did not currently suspect terrorism as a motive, though he cautioned that much remained unknown. He said the suspected gunman had not previously been known to police.
The shooting took place in Orebro, some 200 km (125 miles) west of Stockholm, at the Risbergska school for adults who did not complete their formal education or failed to get the grades to continue to higher education. It is located on a campus that also houses schools for children.

Syrian immigrants don't have access to automatic weapons in Sweden. Indeed, no one does. Was this another instance of gang violence in a country where Kristersson was forced to admit that the government had "lost control" of the situation? That he's in denial is obvious.
"This is Sweden’s inherited problem. They have grown over a very long time," said Kristersson. "That we do not have control over the wave of violence is quite obvious," he added.
Immigrants with automatic rifles are new. School shootings are new. They have not "grown over a very long time." That's utter nonsense.

Sweden has the EU's highest rate of brutal gun violence per capita in 2023. In the last month of 2024, 40 people have been shot dead in Sweden -- a chilling number for a European country of only 10-million people, according to a Reuters report.
Gangs are not new to Sweden. It has seen violent gang rivalries between gangs like Los Bandidos and Hells Angels since the 90s. These gangs could be easily identified because of their members' sunglasses, leather jackets and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
But the older gang wars look like an "age of innocence", in comparison to now, reported The UK Express.
The new gangs are made up of immigrants from the Middle East and Balkan nations. The violence has become deadlier and lot more frequent.

Criminologist Ardavan Khoshnood, an associate professor at Lund University, traces the gang violence to the turn of this century.
"At the beginning of the 2000s, we started witnessing more street gangs and more ethnic criminal groups. They mainly started to grow in areas we call ‘vulnerable’ with a lot of unemployment, low education, and socio-economic status. Today, criminals have taken over that society to quite a high degree. When these gangs started to come to power they developed different territories and got very quickly deep into drug trafficking," said Khoshnood.
Ordinarily, I reserve judgment on the perpetrators of these mass killings. But the fact that an automatic weapon was used at a school instructing immigrants, combined with Sweden's recent gang violence, strongly suggests that an escalating gang war is at work.
