Pete Marocco, Trump official who oversaw dismantling of USAID, abruptly leaves State Department role |
2025-04-14 |
[NY Post] Well, as long as he's happy and comfortable with his "retirement" The Trump-appointed official who oversaw the dismantling of USAID has abruptly left his role after less than three months in the job, a US official has said. Pete Marocco had been serving as director for the Office of Foreign Assistance since January for the State Department, and masterminded the shutting down of the US Agency for International Development during his brief tenure as its deputy administrator. Marocco only learned that his role was coming to an end during a White House meeting late last week when he was asked to turn in his agency badge and laptop, the Wall Street Journal reported. Oops He had allegedly clashed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio over the extent of the cuts, which saw 83% of USAID funding to overseas projects canceled since President Trump’s inauguration. Forgot who was boss, did he? A US Marine Corps veteran, Marocco also served in Trump’s first administration in various roles at the State Department and USAID as well as in the Pentagon and the Commerce Department. |

#3 Or perhaps this makes him available for another assignment. The Wall Street Journal is not a friend of President Trump. It’s quite possible they have a different interpretation of events than the participants. Tl;dr: 48 Hour Rule and a large grain of salt. |

#2 I truly appreciate his efforts in cutting one of the most corrupt and subversive government agencies in America. Its too bad be got in front of his leadership, must be more to the story, Trump does not normally fire good soldiers. I hope his retirement goes well. |

#1 I think the British term is that he found himself in surplus to requirements. |
