[Regnum] Klaus Schwab, 88, has stepped down as chairman of the board of trustees of the World Economic Forum (WEF). This was reported by the WEF press service.
“At an extraordinary meeting of the board on April 20, the Board of Trustees took note of the resignation of Klaus Schwab,” the statement said.
The board appointed vice-chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe as acting chairman, in accordance with WEF rules. It also established a search committee to select a future chairman.
Schwab himself said that he was leaving his post due to his age.
Klaus Schwab, has been chairman of the WEF trustees since its founding in 1971. The forum's members include about a thousand large companies from around the world, including Russia.
The last meeting of the WEF, which took place in January 2025, was held without the participation of the Russian delegation, since, according to the Russian Ambassador to Switzerland Sergei Garmonin, the organizers of the forum did not send the corresponding invitations to the Russian Federation, but the Russian side took this decision calmly.
Garmonin emphasized that Moscow will continue to solve external problems in promising formats such as BRICS.
As reported by Regnum News Agency, in May 2024, the President of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Klaus Schwab, decided to leave his post and become a non-executive director of the forum.
Earlier, in June 2024, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that at least six women had faced sexual harassment from senior WEF management. Two employees reported being approached by high-ranking participants at the event. The employees also accused Schwab of harassment - "offering informal communication to a young employee." Another six former employees said they were forced to resign after they announced their pregnancy.
Moreover, according to the publication, Schwab personally ordered the dismissal of some employees over 50 years old in order to reduce the average age of workers and improve performance, deciding to “carry out a youth transformation of the organization.” Representatives of the forum refused to arrange an interview with Schwab, and the press service stated that the article “incorrectly describes the organization, culture and colleagues, including the founder ”
