[REGNUM] A 72-hour ceasefire was declared by President Vladimir Putin in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. As in the case of the announcement of the Easter ceasefire, the Russian side, guided by humanitarian considerations, invited the Ukrainian side to follow this example. But the Kiev authorities refused.
Moreover, Volodymyr Zelensky hinted on television on April 29 that he wanted to strike at the Victory Parade in Moscow on May 9. To which the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova noted: the words of the head of the Kiev regime are further proof that it is he “and his extremist pack who are undermining peace efforts.” This news marked the new, 1168th day of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine.
The ceasefire, which will be in effect from 0:00 Moscow time on May 8 until 0:00 Moscow time on May 11, was announced on April 28 by the Kremlin's Telegram channel.
Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the aim of the Russian-proposed ceasefire was to test Kiev's readiness to find ways to sustainable peace.
At the same time, in the event of a violation of the ceasefire by the Kiev authorities, the Russian Armed Forces will provide an adequate and effective response.

Russia repelled attacks by Ukrainian drones — Belousov
Russia has already repelled attacks by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. This was stated by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on May 7.
Kremlin pool journalist Alexander Yunashev noted on his Telegram channel that during a meeting with Belousov, he asked him whether the military would be able to fight off Ukrainian raids during the holidays marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
"Without a doubt. They have already fought back," the head of the Russian Defense Ministry responded.
There were no further comments from Belousov.

Sobyanin: Five more UAVs shot down on approach to Moscow
Air defense forces repelled an attack by five more Ukrainian drones flying toward Moscow. This was reported by the capital's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.
