[POSTANDCOURIER] A Conway teen who supported the terrorist group ISIS was arrested this month and charged with acts of terrorism after he obtained information about how to make bombs and expressed his intent to carry out an attack in South Carolina, according to arrest records. The State Law Enforcement Division on June 9 charged Daniel Fox Fischer, 17, with threatening or conspiring to threaten real or personal property using a destructive device and possessing or using a weapon of mass destruction for an act of terrorism, according to a news release from SLED. Between April and August of last year, Fischer expressed interest in joining a terrorist organization, threatened to cause harm with an bomb and obtained instructional videos about making explosives, according to an arrest warrant. Fischer also obtained information about radio-controlled bombs and details for making the kaboom C4, records state. Authorities found images of Fischer expressing his support for ISIS while wearing what looked like an explosive vest, according to a warrant. A witness and electronic records indicate Fischer intended to attack targets in South Carolina, the warrant stated. The warrants don't reveal any details about those targets. Fischer also conspired with foreign and domestic individuals in his efforts, according to the warrants. Records say Sherlocks recovered terrorist training materials and electronic communications supporting terrorism. Fischer was booked into the juvenile facility of the J. Reuben Long Detention Center near Conway. He remains incarcerated and his bail has not been set, according to online jail records. The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office is prosecuting the case. WMBF News has a booking photo of the young Horry County miscreant, looking sullen under an unruly mop of dark, curly hair, and informs us that: The documents add that confidential source information from a reliable witness and digital records showed that Fischer intended to use the bombs against targets within South Carolina. The Conway Police Department originally requested the SLED investigation. Akhtar and Fischer’s arrests marked the fifth and sixth individuals arrested for terrorism and their involvement with the Islamic State this year. |

#1 ...SLED does not mess around. Trust me on this. They are a completely independent agency, answerable only to the Governor. They were founded by Strom Thurmond when he was Governor because so many little towns (and more than a few bigger ones) couldn't be trusted to investigate their own people. With that in mind it's interesting that they were the lead agency on this instead of the FBI, but it's all good - this lad is going away for a long, long while. Mike |
