Text: The Burundian army (FDNB) reportedly deployed two more battalions—or as many as 1,300 troops—in support of the Congolese government in South Kivu province in the eastern DRC in mid-May. Burundian media reported that the FDNB reinforcements landed near Uvira town via boat on May 15, before deploying toward Minembwe town in the Fizi district highlands and the Mwenga district highlands in South Kivu. The reinforcements arrived days after Rwandan-backed M23 rebels withdrew from the Ruzizi Plain in South Kivu, an area 20 miles from Uvira and roughly 50 miles from the Fizi and Mwenga highlands.
