Al-Shabaab seizes key town as Somalia marks 65 years of independence
[Garowe] Even as Somalia celebrates its 65th independence day, the country continues to lose strategic towns to al-Shabaab

fighters, in yet another indication of struggles on the frontlines over the last three months.

It is not long since the snuffies took over Adan Yabaal town from the Somali National Army (SNA) following confrontations on the frontlines in the country. Somalia has been fighting to restore stability for the last three decades.

According to military reports, the snuffies seized control of the town of El Qohle, located about 13km from Moqokori in Somalia's Hiran region, following weeks of festivities with government troops and allied Mawisley clan militias.

The Macawislay fighters work closely with the Somali National Army and regional forces to bolster security within central and southern regions. The government of Somalia maintains that it is still able to restore order and control in the country.

On Tuesday, al-Shabaab released images purporting to show its fighters in control of El Qohle town, Hiran region. There were no signs of Mawisley militias or the Somali National Army, who were seen within the vicinity of the town.

Military theorists believe that the town is the last defensive position before Moqokori, a strategic logistics base for Somali army units and allied Mawisley militias over the past three years. The snuffies have been fighting hard to retake Moqokori.

Mali junta chief extends army rule by five years, rules out elections
And everyone was sooooo surprised.
[AFRICANEWS] The bill granting Gen. Assimi Goita an unelected presidential mandate was approved by Mali's transitional parliament on Thursday.

The text of the bill reads that Goita's mandate can be 'renewed as many times as necessary' without elections.

The text got unanimous approval from all 131 members of the transitional assembly present on Thursday.

41-year-old Goita has exercised presidential power since August 2020 when the military overthrew then-President Ibrahim Boubacar Ke ta, blaming him for his handling of a deadly Islamist murderous Moslem insurgency in Mali's north.

Thursday's decision clears Goita to rule Mali at least until 2030.

Mali's junta has resisted regional and international pressure to organize elections, and a return to civilian rule.

210 Boko Haram Members, Families Surrender as Military Tightens Grip in Lake Chad - BarristerNG.com
[BARRISTERNG] In a major win against insurgency, 210 members of Boko Haram

—including fighters and their families—have surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) under Sector 2 in Bol, near Baga Sola.

This mass defection follows intensified military operations in the Lake Chad area, combining both aggressive combat tactics and non-violent mostly peaceful strategies. The success is credited to a coordinated offensive led by personnel from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Navy operating under Operation Hadin Kai, commanded by Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the MNJTF's Chief Military Public Information Officer, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the surrendering bully boyz confessed to taking part in multiple attacks across the Bakatolerom, Barkalam, Litri, and Kaiga Ngbouboun axis of the Lake Chad Basin. The troops also recovered ten assorted firearms from the group.

Major General Moussa Haussa, Commander of Sector 2/Operation Lake Chad, commended his troops for their dedication and urged them to keep up the pressure. He assured the public that the surrendered individuals would be treated humanely and enrolled in deradicalization programmes under the MNJTF framework.

''There is no future for terrorism in this region,'' he stated confidently.

Jihadists Kill 28 in Two Raids in Northern Nigeria
[THEDEFENSEPOST] Two unrelated attacks by jihadist groups in northeast and northwestern Nigeria have killed 28 people, the military and residents told AFP on Thursday.

At least 11 people were killed on Thursday when jihadists from IS-aligned Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
West Africa Province (ISWAP) stormed the town of Malam Fatori on the border with Niger, opening fire on a camp for internally displaced people, a front man for a multinational military coalition said.

''ISWAP bandidos faceless myrmidons attacked Malam Fatori this morning. They killed 11 people, but the area is now under military control,'' said lieutenant colonel Olaniyo Osoba, of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad region.

The MNJTF, which comprises troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon

, was formed in 1998 to combat cross-border crime but its mandate was expanded to fight jihadists in the region.

More than 40,000 people have been killed and around two million displaced in the northeast in 16 years of jihadist violence.

The Lions of Islam drove into the town in several vans fitted with machine guns around 0120 GMT and attacked the camp housing thousands of people displaced by jihadist violence, said Abor Mallum, an anti-jihadist militia member assisting the military in fighting jihadists.

The attackers set fire to a hospital and government buildings before withdrawing, said Mallum, who put the toll at 12.

He said 20 others were maimed and taken to a hospital in Bosso across the border in Niger.

jihadists in 2014 but was clawed back by the military in 2015.

The military established a base in the town and has repelled dozens of ISWAP attacks. ISWAP split from Boko Haram in 2016 and turned Lake Chad into its bastion.

More than 1,000 kilometers away in Sokoto state, Lions of Islam from another jihadist group, Lakurawa, raided Kwallajiya village on Wednesday, killing 17 people, residents said.

''The Lakurawa bandidos faceless myrmidons attacked— when people were preparing for afternoon prayers,'' resident Muhammad Bello said, adding that 17 people, many of them working on their farms on the village outskirts, were killed.

Residents believed the attack was reprisal for the killing of three jihadists by vigilantes in a failed raid on the community days earlier.

The assailants entered the village ''shooting indiscriminately,'' burning homes, farmlands, and telecommunications masts, a holy man of the village mosque told AFP.

Sokoto state police front man Ahmed Rufa'i confirmed the attack but gave no toll, saying that details were ''sketchy.''

Its president used to be Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and was chased out in 2014. crossed into Nigeria last year and settled in a forest which stretches into Niger.

They stage deadly attacks, rustling livestock, and imposing tax on locals.

The group encourages people to rebel against secular authorities, while imposing its own strict interpretation of Sharia law in the districts it operates in.

Lakurawa's emergence has worsened the insecurity in the northwest, which has been reeling under deadly attacks by criminal gangs.

Nigerian Troops Uncover Cache Of 56 Explosive Devices Planted By Boko Haram On Borno Bridge
[SAHARAREPORTERS] Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have uncovered a massive cache of 56 fully prepared improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the crucial Marte—Dikwa bridge in Borno State.

The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, stating that the discovery was made during a targeted clearance operation.

The Nigerian Army explained that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from the Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases led the operation, which was aimed at securing key transit routes in the insurgency-hit region.

The statement read, "So far, a total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location. Controlled procedures are currently underway to render the remaining devices safe for complete recovery and disposal.

"This successful operation has prevented a potentially catastrophic attack and reaffirms the vigilance, expertise, and commitment of Nigerian troops in safeguarding key infrastructure and civilian lives within the North East theatre."

SaharaReporters earlier reported that troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 16 fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram during a clearance operation in Damboa, Borno State.

The coordinated attack on the terrorists occurred around 1am on Thursday, targeting the Azir Bridge axis and the 25 Task Force Brigade base in Damboa.

''The main thrust of the terrorists was the brigade location in Damboa, where they attacked en masse. However, the troops responded decisively with heavy firepower, leading to a significant number of enemy casualties,'' one of the military sources was quoted as saying.

''At least 16 bodies of the terrorists were recovered after the exchange, with several others believed to have fled with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, two soldiers paid the supreme price during the gun battle with the terrorists.''

Uganda secretly sends hundreds of troops to DR Congo - UN experts
[AFRICANEWS] More Ugandan soldiers have poured into Congolese territory under the pretext of fighting gangs, without Kinshasa's authorization.

As many as 1,000 troops have deployed in Bunia, as well as to the Mahagi and Djugu territories in Ituri province, according to UN experts.

Ugandan authorities say the deployment is meant to tackle the threat posed by CODECO, an gang operating in Ituri.

CODECO fighters have been accused of carrying out attacks on Lake Albert where some of Uganda's oil installations are located.

But UN experts argue that the actual motivation is to secure vital economic interests especially the gold and timber trade.

Israeli restaurant attacked, synagogue torched within minutes of each other in Melbourne
[IsraelTimes] Anti-Israeli mob said to chant ‘Death to the IDF’ while hurling furniture through Miznon window; suspect sets entrance of historic synagogue on fire; 20 people inside evacuate unscathed

A mob of pro-Paleostinian protesters vandalized an Israeli-owned restaurant in Melbourne on Friday evening just minutes after a nearby historic synagogue was targeted in an arson attack, Australian authorities said.

About 20 masked anti-Israel protesters stormed the Miznon restaurant at around 8:30 p.m. local time, with the Herald Sun citing witnesses who said the mob chanted "Death to the IDF." Rap duo Bob Vylan led a crowd in shouting the same phrase at the Glastonbury festival in England days earlier.

The protesters — many of them masked — hurled furniture and food at the restaurant, shattering one of its outer windows as customers dined both inside and outside.

Police said they arrested a 28-year-old protester and questioned several other participants at the scene, identifying each of them for the purpose of follow-up investigation.

Activists say they targeted the restaurant because it is co-owned by Shahar Segal who has served as a spokesperson for the controversial Gazoo

Around a half hour before the incident at Miznon, police said a man entered the grounds of the East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation and poured flammable liquid on the door before setting it alight.

Roughly 20 people were inside the synagogue at the time of the fire, but they managed to evacuate before anyone was injured, authorities said, adding that firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes to put out the blaze.

Damage from the fire was contained to the entrance of the synagogue, police said, adding that while the suspect remained on the lam, the incident was caught on security cameras.

French police slash migrant boat and drag passengers back to shore just as they attempt to cross the Channel for Britain
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
Downing Street has hailed the 'toughening' of tactics by French police in the war on small boats as footage emerged of officers slashing a dinghy packed with migrants and dragging the deflated vessel back to dry land.

The Prime Minister's spokesperson has described the new approach as 'significant' - as footage showed gendarmes taking a knife to the boat, which was teeming with people in lifejackets hoping to make it to Britain.

Dramatic footage aired by the BBC shows the officers taking off their utility belts before dashing into the water armed with knives in what looks to be a preview of the new approach being unveiled at a France-UK summit on tackling the issue next week.

A single jab with a blade is all it takes to puncture the boat, which begins rapidly collapsing into the water as the would-be migrants cry out in anger having just boarded the vessel seconds before.

Furious screams can be heard as they scurry to get back to the beach, while children can be seen crying. All the migrants on board managed to make their way safely back to shore.

It's a dramatic new tactic by French police, who have previously said French law prevents them from interfering with boats more than 10 feet from the coast.

The rule is in the process of being scrapped, with France and Britain - but some police appear to be acting early, prompting anger from refugee charities.

Number 10 hailed the actions of French cops on Friday as a 'significant moment' that could have 'a major impact' on smuggling gangs.

Downing Street said the change in stance from French law enforcement was thanks to the Prime Minister's 'reset' in relations with Europe, as he has looked to heal the wounds caused by the Brexit years.

The spokesman said: 'No government has been able to get this level of cooperation with the French. That is important.

'We are looking to see France change its maritime tactics, and that is down to the Prime Minister's efforts to reset our relationship across Europe.'
There’s an interesting graph at the link of cumulative number of migrants who have crossed the channel with a separate line for each year since 2018. This year was working up to being the highest yet.

Multiple arrested as anti-ICE protesters clash with police, US troops in Los Angeles
[FoxNews] Multiple people were arrested in Los Angeles on Friday as anti-ICE demonstrators clashed with law enforcement and the U.S. military after weeks of protests against deportations and ICE raids, police said.

Los Angeles police said there were "multiple arrests today during several different demonstrations" downtown.

"Most were peaceful, but once again, as the evening approached, outside agitators began to cause issues," the department wrote on X.

Earlier in the night, police wrote that demonstrators were "confronting Federal Protective Security Personnel and National Guard members."

"Less Lethal munitions have been deployed by Federal authorities," police wrote, adding that they may cause pain and discomfort.

In response to the anti-ICE protests that began last month, the Trump administration deployed National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles, despite opposition from Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Demonstrators met up for the protest on Friday at around 9:30 a.m. outside City Hall on Spring Street and took a 1.5-mile route through downtown, according to local outlet KCAL.

Police said the group dispersed shortly after the incident commander authorized a dispersal order for the area on Friday night, according to a post at 7:17 p.m. local time.

Officers from the Department of Homeland Security had declared the protest an unlawful assembly, independent journalist Anthony Cabassa wrote on X, adding that Marines and federal agents were using riot gear while ordering the crowd to disperse.

Security forces eliminate 30 terrorists trying to infiltrate through Pak-Afghan border: ISPR
[GEO.TV] Security forces have eliminated at least 30 Indian-backed Lions of Islam trying to infiltrate through Pakistain-Afghanistan border
...also known as Pashtunistan, home of ignorance, poverty, and automatic weapons...
in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's North Wazoo district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

The military's media wing said the movement of a large group of "khwarij" (terrorists), belonging to the "Indian proxy Fitna-al-Khwarij", was detected near border area in Hassan Khel on the night of July 1-2 and July 2-3.

According to the ISPR, troops engaged the infiltrators and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate, with "precise and skillful engagement," resulting in all 30 Indian-sponsored Lions of Islam being "sent to hell". A significant quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives was recovered from the neutralised terrorists.

"The security forces demonstrated exceptional professionalism, vigilance and preparedness, and prevented a potential catastrophe," the ISPR said.

The military's media wing asked the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
rulers to check and prevent the use of Afghan soil by ''foreign proxies'' for orchestrating terrorist activities against Pakistain.

"The security forces of Pakistain remain resolute and unwavering in their commitment to defend the nation's frontiers and to eradicate the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country," it said.

The development came days after 13 Pakistain Army soldiers were martyred when an explosive-laden vehicle of the Indian-sponsored Lions of Islam rammed into security forces vehicle in North Waziristan district

The military's media wing on, in a statement on June 28, said that a vehicle-borne jacket wallah attempted to explode himself on a security forces convoy, which was intercepted by the leading group, foiling his nefarious design.

However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
in their desperation, the ISPR had said the explosive-laden vehicle was rammed by the "Indian-sponsored kharjis" into one of the vehicles of the leading group.

Subsequently, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir vowed that all controllers, abettors, and perpetrators of terrorism will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice without exception and at all costs.

Brazil launches major security operation ahead of BRICS Summit
[AFRICANEWS] Brazil's Navy launched a major operation off the coast of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday ahead of the BRICS Summit June 6-7.

Approx. 2,000 marines and more than 100 naval, air, and marine assets are reinforcing security around the Museum of Modern Art, where state leaders - including representatives from South Africa, Egypt, and Æthiopia - will meet on Sunday.

''As of today, we will have vessels on the water 24 hours a day. These are ships and smaller vessels controlling the entire maritime space. In some places, specifically Marina da Gloria, it will be closed from July 4th,'' said Navy Captain Elinton Coutinho.

Growing tensions within the BRICS alliance cast a shadow over this year's Summit as both Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
will skip the meeting in Rio for the first time.

The theme of Brazil's BRICS presidency is 'Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance'.

Organizers will work to get the 11 member countries to issue a joint final declaration after foreign ministers failed to do so at the Summit in April for the first time in BRICS history.

The gridlock was the result of Egypt and Æthiopia refusing to support South Africa as a candidate for a seat at the UN Security Council.

Explosive-laden drone intercepted near Erbil airport
[Rudaw] Local counterterrorism forces said an explosive-laden drone was intercepted in the skies of Erbil late Thursday, with no casualties reported.

The drone was downed at 9:58 pm local time near Erbil International Airport but "did not cause any casualties or material damage," the Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD), which is part of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), said on Facebook.

Earlier in the evening, Rudaw published CCTV footage showing the moment the drone fell in a village near the airport.

There are reports of flight cancellations at the airport.

Lawand Mamundi, CEO of Erbil Fly, told Rudaw that none of the flights of his company have been cancelled.

CCTV footage shows an apparent explosion near Erbil airport.

An explosive drone crashed in Sulaimani province's Garmiyan administration Thursday afternoon without causing casualties, a spokesperson for security forces said.

Remains of a suspected drone were found in Kirkuk late Thursday.

It is not clear where these drones originate from, but they are believed to be related to the latest deadly war between Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and Israel.

The renewed drone activity follows the US-brokered ceasefire that went into effect on June 24, ending the 12-day war between Iran and Israel. During the conflict, numerous drones and rockets flew through the airspace of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, where several drones fell or were intercepted.
In the past days, drone and rocket attacks have been reported in different parts of Iraq, including drones that landed in open spaces.

Earlier on Thursday, an explosive-packed drone fell near Kirkuk airport, which was struck on Monday by two rockets, a senior security official told AFP.

Kirkuk airport hosts Iraqi army units, federal police, and the Hashed al-Shaabi, a coalition of pro-Iran former paramilitary forces now integrated into the regular armed forces.

Early on Tuesday, Iraq’s anti-aircraft defense engaged at least one drone near the key refinery of Baiji in Salaheddin province.

Last week, hours before a ceasefire ended the 12-day Iran-Israel war, unidentified drones struck radar systems at two military bases in Baghdad and southern Iraq.

Iraq has long been a battleground of drone and rocket assaults and has proved a fertile ground for proxy wars.

The country has only recently regained a semblance of stability after decades of devastating conflicts and turmoil.

Kurdish farmer disappears in Kirkuk, ISIS suspected
[Rudaw] A Kurdish farmer disappeared Wednesday night in Iraq’s disputed Kirkuk province, leaving his family and authorities perplexed after his cash and phone were found untouched in his truck. The suspected abduction of the father of four underscored the critical security vacuum in the region.

Forty-year-old Ari Ramazan disappeared in Prde (Altun Kupri) sub-district, 40 kilometers northwest of Kirkuk city, while returning from his orchard, according to his family who suspect the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) is responsible.

"He is a farmer and all farmers this year are not doing well and their crops haven't made money. He was at his orchard and when he was leaving, they kidnapped him. He is married and has four children. This has become his daily route," Shwan Baqir, a relative of Ramazan, told Rudaw on Saturday.

Ramazan’s truck was found near the village of Kalur between Prde and Kirkuk city. His phone and six million Iraqi dinars were left untouched, according to information obtained by Rudaw.

Locals said similar disappearances have happened in the past and blamed a security vacuum in the area.

"This is not the first time. Some time ago another man was kidnapped here and another was killed because there is no proper and good checkpoint in the area to prevent such acts," Ahmed Yasin, another relative of Ramazan, said at the site where his truck was found.

"The area has fallen into a security vacuum between Peshmerga and the army. Both have neglected it and the people here have been harmed," he added.

Iraqi security forces started searching the area on Thursday.

ISIS continues to pose a threat in disputed territories where there is an unclear division of responsibility between Iraqi forces and Kurdish Peshmerga. The turbans periodically abduct people for ransom.

Tensions are also high in the area this week after a Kurdish woman was named mayor of Prde sub-district. Supporters of the Iraqi Turkmen Front and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) have staged protests.

IDF says troops arrested 10 Palestinians Thursday, seized firearms in overnight West Bank raids
[IsraelTimes] Israeli forces arrested 10 wanted Palestinians and seized firearms during overnight operations across the West Bank, the military says.

In Tubas, undercover troops from the IDF’s Duvdevan commando unit arrested three suspects affiliated with a local terror cell. In Balata, near Nablus, troops destroyed a lathe used to manufacture weapons and explosives.

In Tulkarem and nearby Shuweika, soldiers detained three more suspects and confiscated a M-16 rifle, Carlo submachine gun and other military gear. No injuries were reported among the Israeli forces.

Moreover, the ministry also added that 452 were maimed within this duration.

Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023, have now killed at least 57,268 Paleostinians and injured at least 135,625 others.

Since Israel broke the ceasefire on March 18, at least 6,710 Paleostinians have been killed and 23,584 more injured.

food distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the World Health Organization said.

The US-and Israeli-backed GHF began distributing food packages in Gaza at the end of May, overseeing a new model of deliveries that the United Nations says is neither impartial nor neutral.
Decidedly odd use of the language…No skimming by Hamas and the NGOs, you mean, while the unconnected have to pay siege prices for what was supposed to be given for free.
It has repeatedly denied that incidents involving people killed or maimed at its sites have occurred.

Referring to medical staff at the Nasser hospital, Rik Peeperkorn, WHO representative in the West Bank and Gaza, told news hounds in Geneva: "They've seen already for weeks, daily injuries ... (the) majority coming from the so-called safe non-UN food distribution sites. The hospital is now operating as one massive trauma ward."
It would help if Hamas weren’t shooting those who dare defy them by lining up for GHF donations.
Israel lifted an 11-week aid blockade on Gaza on May 19.

IDF says it holds operational control over around 65% of Gaza
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it now holds operational control over roughly 65% of the Gaza Strip, following intensified military action across the territory.

Over the past week, Israeli forces eliminated more than 100 Hamas operatives, including senior commander Hakem al-Issa.

Since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, the Israeli Air Force has struck over 7,500 terror targets, including weapons sites, tunnels and rocket launchers.

The military says its campaign will continue in pursuit of its war goals and to protect Israeli civilian.

IDF says soldier killed during fighting in Gaza’s Khan Younis
[IsraelTimes] The IDF has announced that Sgt. Asaf Zamir, 19, from Dimona, a soldier in the 53rd Armored Battalion of the 188th Brigade, was killed during combat in the southern Gaza Strip. In the same incident, which took place this morning in the Khan Younis area, a tank was fired upon, resulting in several casualties. Two additional soldiers from the same battalion were severely wounded and evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment. Their families have been notified.

15 KILLED IN KHAN YOUNIS
Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella went down under the weight of the custard...
Israeli strikes overnight on Friday killed at least 15 people in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, according to Gaza’s Hamas-linked civil defense agency.

Civil defense official Mohammad al-Mughayyir told AFP that seven people, including a child, were killed in an Israeli air strike on displaced people’s tents near the city.

He added that eight more people were killed in two other strikes on tent encampments on the coast of Khan Younis, including one that killed two children in the early hours of the morning.

The IDF told AFP that it cannot comment on specific attacks without precise coordinates, but noted it is "operating to dismantle Hamas military capabilities."

The military says it does not deliberately target civilians and notes that Hamas has been using civilian sites, like hospitals, schools and displaced centers, as cover for their operations.

The IDF said Friday that the Air Force struck around 100 terror targets across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours as ground forces continue operations against Hamas and other terror groups.

Targets of the air strikes included rocket launchers, military buildings, weapons depots and other infrastructure used by terror operatives.

Simultaneously, IDF ground troops from multiple divisions continued operations in Gaza City, northern Gaza, Khan Younis and Rafah, locating and destroying underground tunnels, weapons stockpiles and explosives planted to harm Israeli forces.

Ravina Shamdasani, the spokesperson for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHCR), said on Friday that at least 613 killings have been recorded both at aid points run by the GHF and near humanitarian convoys run by other relief groups since the GHF began operating in the Strip in late May.

"This is a figure as of June 27. Since then...there have been further incidents," she said, adding that the rights office was not able to attribute responsibility for the killings, but that "it is clear that the Israeli military has shelled and shot at Paleostinians trying to reach the distribution points" operated by GHF.

According to the OHCHR, of the 613 people killed, 509 were killed near the GHF distribution points, and the others were killed near other aid distribution sites or trucks.

The OHCHR said its figure is based on a range of sources such as information from hospitals, cemeteries, families, Gaza health authorities, NGOs and its partners on the ground. It said it is verifying further reports and cannot yet give a breakdown of where they were killed.

Death tolls provided by Hamas-run Gaza health authorities cannot be independently verified and do not differentiate between combatants and civilians.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Wave of Israeli airstrikes target south Lebanon

between Yahmor al-Shqif and Deir Seryan, and the outskirts of Zawtar el-Sharqiyeh and other areas in the Jezzine region.

The Israeli army said it struck "military sites, including weapons depots, military structures, and terrorist infrastructure" of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Their presence and activities in the area constitute, according to Israel, a "flagrant violation" of the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on November 27 to end over a year of hostilities.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel continues to carry out strikes on Lebanon almost daily, claiming to target Hezbollah.

An Israeli strike on a vehicle at the southern entrance of Beirut earlier on Thursday killed one man and maimed three other people, as the Israeli army said it hit a "terrorist" working for Iran.
