Afghanistan
Tribal Jirga in Paktia Brokers Ceasefire Along Durand Line
[TOLONEWS] After four days of festivities along the Durand Line in Paktia, a ceasefire has been reached through the mediation of tribal elders from both sides, bringing the fighting to an end.

Members of this joint jirga have stated that, after a week, the tribal elders from both sides agreed to form a 40-member committee to address issues arising on both sides of the Durand Line.

This jirga was held in the Dand-e-Patan district with the participation of bigwigs from the Islamic Emirate and the Pak side. It was decided that the route for commercial activities would also be reopened.

Mohammad Anwar Sediqi, a tribal elder, said: "A joint meeting was held between the officials of the Islamic Emirate and Pakistain, and the outcome was shared. Three main issues were discussed: first, a ceasefire was declared; second, the road will be reopened."

Wali Mohammad, another tribal elder, said: "An agreement was reached between the governments and tribes that we will no longer fight and will not allow any opportunities for conflict."

The jirga called on both sides to ensure the safety of civilians during any festivities.

Khial Mohammad Samkani, a tribal elder, said: "Discussions took place between the governments, and we, the tribes from both sides, wanted to understand what this conflict was about and who was harmed."

It has been reported that since last Monday, festivities between the forces of the Islamic Emirate and Pak soldiers occurred in the Aryob Zazi and Dand-e-Patan districts, resulting in the deaths of five civilians and injuries to five others due to rocket fire from Pakistain, causing significant financial losses to local residents.

Six People Killed in Bamiyan Shooting
[TOLONEWS] The Ministry of Interior reports that the corpse count from yesterday's (Friday) armed attack in Bamyan has risen to six.

Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, also stated that seven people have been arrested in connection with this incident.

Qani said: "Unknown armed individuals opened fire on civilians in the center of Bamyan city. Unfortunately, in this incident, three Afghan citizens and three foreign tourists bit the dust, and three Afghan citizens and four foreign tourists were maimed. The Ministry of Interior, while condemning this criminal act, assures that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice."

The armed attack on civilians and foreign citizens occurred around 6 PM on Friday in the Bamyan city market. So far, no individual or group has grabbed credit for the attack.

According to local officials, four of the injured foreign tourists are women.

Abdul Razaq, who lost a relative and whose brother was injured in the attack, called on the interim government: "My brother has a shoe shop here. He was standing here when the incident occurred, and unfortunately, he was injured in the leg, and one of our family members was killed in this incident."

Abdul Ali Shafaq, a resident of Bamyan, told TOLOnews: "Our expectation from the Islamic Emirate is that such incidents should not be repeated, and they should work on ensuring the security of both foreign and domestic citizens."

Somali Forces Strike Back Against Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle
[SHABELLEMEDIA] In a significant blow to the al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
Death Eaters, the Somali National Army, with the support of international security partners, launched a successful operation in the Lower Shabelle region.

This strategic move comes in the wake of a series of al-Shabaab attacks in the area, including a deadly assault on a Ugandan base in May 2023, which marked one of the most devastating attacks on African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops since their formation in April 2022.

The operation, which took place in the Lower Shabelle region, specifically targeted al-Shabaab strongholds, aiming to neutralize the Death Eaters’ capabilities and disrupt their operations.

The Somali government, through its intelligence agency, has been working closely with international partners to ensure the success of these operations, which are a part of a broader strategy to regain control of territories long held by the bully boy group.

The Somali government has reported that the operation resulted in the killing of at least 46 al-Shabaab members. This figure is consistent with the government’s ongoing efforts to counter the insurgency, which has seen numerous operations carried out across Somalia, particularly in the volatile Lower Shabelle region.

The Lower Shabelle region has been a hotbed of al-Shabaab activity, with the group using guerilla tactics to harass and attack Somali and ATMIS troops stationed there.

The latest operation is a testament to the Somali government’s commitment to securing the region and protecting its citizens from the threat of terrorism.

Yemen’s Houthis claim to shoot down US MQ-9 Reaper drone; ship targeted in Red Sea
[IsraelTimes] Footage appears to show wreckage of $30 million UAV; missile fired at Panama-flagged vessel off the coast of Yemeni port Hodeida, crew all safe

Yemen

...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels on Friday claimed to have shot down an American drone, hours after footage circulated online of what appeared to be the wreckage of an MQ-9 Reaper drone. Early Saturday, a vessel also came under attack in the Red Sea.

Houthi military front man Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed that rebels shot down the Reaper on Thursday with a surface-to-air missile. He described the drone as "carrying out hostile actions" in Yemen’s Marib province, which remains held by allies of Yemen’s exiled, internationally recognized government.

The Houthis later released footage they claimed showed the surface-to-air-missile being launched at night, along with night-vision footage of the missile hitting the drone. A man, whose voice had been digitally altered to apparently prevent identification, chanted the Houthi slogan: "God is the greatest; death to America; death to Israel; curse the Jews; victory to Islam."

Online video showed wreckage resembling the pieces of the Reaper on the ground, as well as footage of that wreckage on fire.

The United States military did not respond to a request for comment from The News Agency that Dare Not be Named over the Houthi claim. While the rebels have made claims about attacks that turned out later not to be true, they have a history of shooting down US drones and have been armed by their main benefactor, Iran, with weapons capable of high-altitude attack.

Since the Houthis seized the country’s north and its capital, Sanaa, in 2014, the US military has previously lost at least five drones to the rebels.

Reapers, which cost around $30 million apiece, can fly at altitudes up to 50,000 feet and have an endurance of up to 24 hours before needing to land.

The Houthis have launched more than 50 attacks on shipping, seized one vessel and sunk another since November, according to the US Maritime Administration.

Early Saturday, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said a ship came under attack off the coast of Yemen’s port city of Hodeida. The captain "has confirmed sustaining slight damage after being struck by an unknown object on his port quarter," the UKMTO said. "The vessel and crew are safe and continuing to its next port of call."

Last week, the Houthis threatened to extend their attacks to Israel-bound shipping to the Mediterranean.

#1  It would be reasonable for these expensive and sophisticated drones to be equipped with an independent, hardened watchdog computer that would destroy sensitive data and instruments with thermite charges if certain conditions are met.

If that's the case this will not really benefit the Houthis.

However, is there any political will to erase Houthi piracy permanently either by means of deterrence or neutralization of their capabilities?

The damage inflicted on the world economy by even small attacks is ridiculously high.

Houthis strike Greek ship transporting Russian Oil to China
[CENTCOM] At approximately 1 a.m. (Sanaa time) May 18, Iranian-backed Houthis launched one anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) into the Red Sea and struck M/T Wind, a Panamanian-flagged, Greek owned and operated oil tanker.

M/T Wind most recently docked in Russia and was bound for China. The impact of the ASBM caused flooding which resulted in the of loss propulsion and steering. A coalition vessel immediately responded to the distress call by M/T Wind, but no assistance was needed. The crew of M/T Wind was able to restore propulsion and steering, and no casualties were reported. M/T Wind resumed its course under its own power.

Panama-flagged oil tanker reportedly attacked southwest of Yemen's Mocha - Ambrey
[Jpost] British security firm Ambrey said on Saturday it had received information that a Panama-flagged crude oil tanker had been attacked approximately 10 nautical miles southwest of Yemen's Mokha.

Ambrey said a radio communication indicated the vessel was hit by a missile and that there was a fire onboard. It did not provide details of the communication.

Vessels in the vicinity were advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity, Ambrey added in an advisory note.

EARLIER HOUTHI ATTACKS ON SATURDAY
Earlier on Saturday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said a vessel in the Red Sea was struck by an unknown object and sustained slight damage.

"The vessel and crew are safe and continuing to its next port of call," UKMTO said in an advisory note, adding the incident occurred 76 nautical miles northwest of Yemen's Hodeidah.

Months of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have disrupted global shipping, forcing firms to re-route to longer and more expensive journeys around Southern Africa, and stoking fears that the Israel-Hamas war could spread to destabilize the wider Middle East.

The United States and Britain have carried out strikes against Houthi targets in response to the attacks on shipping.

Rocket strike causes fire on board oil tanker in Red Sea

A fire broke out on an oil tanker flying the flag of Panama off the coast of the Yemeni city of Moha, Reuters reported, citing the British company Ambrey.

“The ship was hit by a missile and a fire broke out on board,” the British company said.

No other details of the incident were provided.

The UK Maritime Trade Office (UKMTO) reported on May 18 that the ship had suffered minor damage in the Red Sea. The vessel and its crew are safe and have continued to their next port of call. The incident occurred northwest of the Yemeni city of Hodeidah.

As Regnum reported, on April 27, the Houthis reported an attack on the British ship Andromeda Star in the Red Sea. On the same day, UKMTO reported damage to a tanker as a result of a missile attack in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait off the coast of Yemen. The ship belonged to a British company. Under the flag of Panama, it sailed from Primorsk to Vadinar (west coast of India).

At the end of April, the Houthis announced an attack on two US Navy destroyers and the bulk carrier Cyclades in the Red Sea, as well as the container ship MSC Orion in the Indian Ocean. Also in April, a merchant ship was damaged in an attack in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. It was reported that none of its crew members were injured.

In May, Houthi Ansar Allah military spokesman Yahya Saria vowed to attack ships associated with Israel or going to its ports, including in the Mediterranean.

UPenn students face felony charges over attempted anti-Israel occupation
[IsraelTimes] Campus police say 7 students among the 19 protesters arrested for trying to occupy building at Philadelphia university, including person who assaulted officer

A half-dozen University of Pennsylvania students were among 19 pro-Paleostinian protesters arrested during an attempt to occupy a school building, university police said Saturday.

Their arrests came a week after authorities broke up an anti-Israel protest encampment on campus and arrested nine students — and as other colleges across the country, anxious to prepare for commencement season, have either negotiated agreements with students or called in police to dismantle protest camps.

Members of Penn Students Against the Occupation of Paleostine announced the action Friday at the school’s Fisher-Bennett Hall, urging supporters to bring "flags, pots, pans, noise-makers, megaphones" and other items, the University of Pennsylvania Division of Public Safety said in a news release.

Officers could be seen closing in "within the hour," The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. University police supported by city police then escorted the protesters out and secured the building, news outlets reported.

Police said after clearing the building that they recovered "lock-picking tools and homemade metal shields fashioned from oil drums."

Exit doors had been secured with zip ties and barbed wire and barricaded with metal chairs and desks, while windows were covered by newspaper and cardboard, and bike racks and metal chairs blocked entrances, police said.

Seven of the students arrested on Friday remained in jug Saturday awaiting felony charges, including one person who assaulted an officer, campus police said. A dozen were issued citations for failing to disperse and follow police commands. They have been released from custody.

The attempted occupation of Fisher-Bennett Hall came a week after city and campus police broke up a two-week encampment on the campus, arresting 33 people, nine of whom were students and two dozen of whom had "no Penn affiliation," according to university officials.

Members of the group surrounded the Institute of Politics building around 5 p.m. while others made their way inside, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The demonstrators hung a sign renaming the building "Casbah Basel al-A’araj," after the "hipster terrorist" killed in a 2017 shootout with Israeli forces in the West Bank.

The Chicago protest follows the May 7 clearing of an anti-Israel tent encampment at the school by police. University of Chicago administrators had initially adopted a permissive approach, but said earlier this month that the protest had crossed a line and caused growing concerns about safety.

On Friday, campus coppers using riot shields gained access to the Institute of Politics building and scuffled with protesters. Some protesters climbed from a second-floor window, according to the Sun-Times.

The school said protesters attempted to bar the entrance, damaged university property and ignored directives to clear the way, and that those inside the building left when campus coppers entered.

"The University of Chicago is fundamentally committed to upholding the rights of protesters to express a wide range of views," school spokesperson Gerald McSwiggan said in a statement. "At the same time, university policies make it clear that protests cannot jeopardize public safety, disrupt the university’s operations or involve the destruction of property."

No arrests or injuries were reported.

Nearly 3,000 people have been arrested on US campuses over the past month. As summer break approaches, there have been fewer new arrests and campuses have been calmer. Still, colleges have been vigilant for disruptions to commencement ceremonies.

On Thursday, police began dismantling a pro-Paleostinian encampment at DePaul University in Chicago, hours after the school’s president told students to leave the area or face arrest.

The war in Gaza began when Hamas and other murderous Moslems stormed into southern Israel on October 7, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 252 hostages. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 35,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far, though only some 24,000 fatalities have been identified at hospitals. The tolls, which cannot be verified, include some 15,000 terror operatives Israel says it has killed in battle. Israel also says it killed some 1,000 murderous Moslems inside Israel on October 7.

280 soldiers have been killed during the ground offensive against Hamas and amid operations along the Gaza border. A civilian Defense Ministry contractor has also been killed in the Gaza Strip.

Militants blow up another girls' school in South Qazoo
[GEO.TV] In yet another blow to girls' education in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa amid the ongoing wave of terrorism, murderous Moslems have bombed a portion of a girls' school in the Wana tehsil of South Wazoo, The News reported on Saturday.

The country's north-western region has remained gripped by terror attacks since mid-2021, impacting several girls' schools in districts across KP.

The Sofia Noor School — established with support from Wana Welfare Association for the girls of the remote and underdeveloped district a few weeks back — was blown up on Friday, within eight days of a school destroyed in the southern districts.

The Islamia Girls School was bombed in Sheva town of North Waziristan on May 9. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
no casualty was reported in the kaboom.

The blast on the school has triggered fear among residents of the province, who continue to witness attacks on educational institutions almost on a daily basis for years now.

According to The News, construction in some blocks of the school was continuing. As per reports, the blast damaged a portion of the building at around 3am, but no casualty was reported. Some social media reports also claimed that the school's administration had received letters for extortion. Locals, however, have categorically denied it.

"Those who attacked the school want to keep the people of Waziristan deprived of education and development. However,

US evacuates 17 volunteer doctors trapped in Gaza since Israel took Rafah crossing
Human interest.
[IsraelTimes] Physicians leave via Kerem Shalom after working in one of the few hospitals in Strip still functioning amid war; several others choose to stay despite uncertain plan for departure

The United States on Friday evacuated out of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
17 American doctors who had been stuck since Israel took over the Paleostinian side of the Rafah Border Crossing with Egypt earlier this month, according to official American sources.

US diplomats arranged for the doctors to leave instead through the Kerem Shalom Crossing into Israel.

"Some of the US citizen doctors who had been stuck in Gaza have now safely departed and made their way to safety with assistance from the US embassy in Jerusalem," a State Department spokesperson said.

"We have been in close contact with the groups that these US doctors are part of, and we have been in contact with the families of these US citizens," he said.

At least 14 doctors from a delegation made up of 35 US and other international volunteer physicians, including three Americans, chose to stay despite the uncertainty on when they will again have a chance to leave, according to the Paleostinian American Medical Association. The US-based non-profit medical group FAJR Scientific, which organized a second volunteer team, could not immediately be reached.

The Rafah crossing into Egypt has been the main gateway for goods and people entering Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has put the onus on Egypt to reopen the crossing.

Egypt has accused Israel in turn of denying responsibility for a humanitarian crisis in Gaza and says that truck drivers and aid workers do not feel safe crossing through an Israeli checkpoint.

The doctors came to help one of the Strip’s few hospitals still functioning. They brought suitcases full of medical supplies and had trained for one of the worst war zones in the world. They knew the health care system was decimated and overwhelmed, with local doctors and nurses beyond exhausted after seven months of treating never-ending waves of Paleostinians maimed since war erupted in Gaza after Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
’s October 7 massacre.

"I did not expect that (it) will be that bad," said Dr. Ammar Ghanem, an ICU specialist from bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
with the Syrian American Medical Society. "You hear the news, but you cannot really recognize ... how bad until you come and see it."

The teams were trapped beyond the scheduled end of their two-week mission when Israel began what it has called a "pinpoint operation" into the crowded southern Gaza city of Rafah on May 6.

Those who left included Ghanem, who said the 15-mile trip from the hospital to the Kerem Shalom Crossing took more than four hours as explosions went off around them. He described some tense moments, such as when an Israel Defense Forces tank at the crossing apparently took aim at the doctors’ convoy.

"The tank moved and blocked our way and they directed their weapons (at) us. So that was a scary moment," Ghanem said.
You’re in what the experts call a “war zone”, buddy. What on earth did you expect?
The 14 doctors with the Paleostinian American Medical Association who stayed behind include American Adam Hamawy. US Sen. Tammy Duckworth credits Hamawy with saving her life when, as a military helicopter pilot in Iraq in 2004, she was hit by an RPG, causing injuries that cost her her legs.

The two international teams have been working since early May at the European General Hospital, just outside Rafah, the largest hospital still operating in southern Gaza. The volunteers are mostly American surgeons but include medical professionals from Britannia, Australia, Egypt, Jordan, Oman and other nations.

The World Health Organization said the UN, which coordinates visits of volunteer teams, is in talks with Israel to resume moving humanitarian workers in and out of Gaza. The IDF said it had no comment.
Now an answer for those who wondered how many hospitals Gaza has:
Nearly two dozen hospitals in Gaza are no longer operating, and the remaining dozen are only partially working.

Much of the European Hospital’s Paleostinian staff left to help families fleeing Rafah amid new evacuation orders to find new shelter. As a result, the foreign volunteers are stretched between medical emergencies and other duties, such as trying to find patients inside the hospital. There is no staff to log where incoming maimed are placed. Medicines that the teams brought with them are running out.

Thousands of Paleostinians are sheltering in the hospital. Outside, sewage overflows in the streets, and drinking water is brackish or polluted, spreading disease. The road to the hospital from Rafah is now unsafe: The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
says an Israeli tank fired on a marked UN vehicle on the road Monday, killing a UN security officer and wounding another.
That other: was he a gunny for Hamas or for Palestinian Islamic Jihad?
When the Rafah assault began, FAJR Scientific’s 17 doctors were living in a guesthouse in the city. With no warning from the IDF to evacuate, the team was stunned by bombs landing a few hundred meters from the clearly-marked house, said Mosab Nasser, FAJR’s CEO.

They scrambled out, still wearing their scrubs, and moved to the European Hospital, where the other team was staying.

Dr. Mohammed Tahir, an orthopedic surgeon from London with FAJR, does multiple surgeries a day on little sleep. He’s often jolted awake by bombings shaking the hospital. Work is frantic. He recalled opening one man’s chest to stop bleeding, with no time to get him to the operating room. The man died.

Tahir said when the Rafah assault began, Paleostinian colleagues at the hospital nervously asked if the volunteers would leave.

"It makes my heart feel really heavy," Tahir said. The Paleostinian staff knows that when the teams leave "they have no more protection; and that could mean that this hospital turns into Shifa, which is a very real possibility." IDF troops raided Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital, the territory’s largest, for a second time in March, killing and detaining hundreds of terror suspects. Israel says that Hamas uses hospitals as command centers and hideouts, an accusation denied by Gaza health officials. The Gaza health ministry is run by Hamas.
”Pshaw! Pish and tosh! Fiddlesticks! Where do you people get such silly ideas?”
The patients Tahir has saved keep him going. Tahir and other surgeons operated for hours on a man with severe wounds to the skull and abdomen and shrapnel in his back. They did a second surgery on him Wednesday night.

"I looked at my colleagues and said, ’You know what? If this patient survives — just this patient — everything we’ve done, or everything we’ve experienced, would all be worth it,'" Tahir said.

Dr. Ahlia Kattan, an anesthesiologist and ICU doctor from Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, with FAJR, said the hardest case for her was a four-year-old boy, the same age as her son, who arrived with burns on more than 75 percent of his body, his lungs and spleen shattered. He didn’t survive.
Human shields so often don’t — it’s the strangest thing.
"He reminded me so much of my son," she said, holding back tears.

"Everyone has different stories here that they’re taking home with them."

Weighing heavily on all the volunteers, Kattan said, is "the guilt that we’re already feeling when we leave, that we get to escape to safety."

IDF announces recovery of body of Ron Benjamin from Gaza, says he was killed on Oct. 7
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] 53-year-old father of two was slain by Hamas near Mefalsim; the body was returned to Israel Thursday along with three others previously announced

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Saturday evening that soldiers had recovered the body of an additional hostage from the Gazoo

Strip, after the announcement the previous day that three slain captives had been returned in a special mission.

The hostage was named as Ron Benjamin, 53, who was kidnapped by Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
holy warriors on the morning of October 7 while returning home from a planned bike ride near the Gaza border, which he canceled when rocket sirens sounded at 6:30 a.m. as Hamas’s attack began.

It is now known that Benjamin was killed near Kibbutz Mefalsim on the day of the attack, and his body was taken to Gaza, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a statement to the press.

His body was recovered during an overnight operation on Thursday, along with the bodies of Itzhak Gelerenter, Amit Buskila, and Shani Louk, all of whom the IDF said were killed by Hamas inside Israel on October 7, and their bodies kidnapped. All four were recovered in northern Gaza, according to the IDF.

The efforts to recover their bodies had "been ongoing for a long time," Hagari said on Friday, and some of the intelligence for the operation came from Paleostinian terror suspects captured by the IDF and interrogated by the Shin Bet.

The military had not initially planned to announce the recovery of three hostages on Friday, as it had preferred to wait until the operation concluded. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
due to a flurry of rumors spreading on social media about the operation, it was decided to release some information, including the names of the hostages found.

Until recently, Benjamin, like Gelerenter and Buskila, had been presumed to be alive, while Louk had been confirmed dead in late October after a piece of her skull was identified following widely shared footage of holy warriors kidnapping her.

On the morning of October 7, Benjamin set out to meet up with friends for a bike ride near Kibbutz Be’eri, but amid the cascading rockets, he decided to turn around and head home to Rehovot. He spoke with his wife, Ayelet, and at 7:30 a.m. he left a message for one of his two daughters. He never returned home.

For two months following the October 7 attacks, Benjamin was considered missing, and his family was told they may never find out what happened to him, as there were no initial leads on whether he had been killed or kidnapped. On December 2, however, the IDF informed the family that he was indeed taken to Gaza.

Last week, amid rehearsals for the Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony, Benjamin’s daughter, Shai Benjamin, handcuffed herself to the gates of Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl military cemetery in protest of the event.

"It seems absurd to me to hold a ceremony celebrating the State of Israel when there are 132 hostages in Gaza whom the country is abandoning right now," she said. "My father has not seen the light of day for seven months."
Idiot girl — instead of complaining, notice that it was the IDF that found your father’s body, because Hamas had collected him for selling to advantage later.

IDF: Palestinian terrorist behind May 2023 murder of Israeli man is killed in West Bank airstrike
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in the West Bank city of Jenin a short while ago targeted a command room belonging to a local terror network and killed a terrorist behind the murder of an Israeli in May 2023, the military and Shin Bet say.

According to a joint IDF and Shin Bet statement, fighter jets and attack helicopters targeted a building used as an "operational war room" by Jenin’s terror network.

Several button men were gathered at the command room when it was struck, including those involved in several shooting attacks in the Jenin area, the IDF says.

It says that members of the network planned additional attacks in the near future.

Among those killed is Islam Khamayseh, who the IDF says was wanted over his involvement in a series of terror attacks, including a shooting near the settlement of Hermesh in May 2023, killing Meir Tamari, and another attack in the area in June 2023 that maimed four soldiers and one civilian.

The military says the targeted site was "a dangerous terrorist infrastructure," and the airstrike "was carried out to remove an imminent threat posed by the turbans who were involved in advancing terror attacks in the area of Jenin and Israeli territory."

It publishes footage of the strike.

operative, who the IDF says was head of logistics for the terror group in the city in southern Gaza. "As part of his role, he was responsible for preparing the enemy for the IDF maneuver in Rafah," the military says.

In eastern Rafah, the military says troops of the Givati Brigade spotted and killed an RPG-wielding operative in a building near them. Givati troops raided several sites in the area, locating weapons, the IDF adds.

Also in eastern Rafah, the Egoz commando unit located a rocket launcher at a building used by terror groups, the IDF says.

Meanwhile in Jabaliya in the Strip’s north, the IDF says the Paratroopers Brigade killed several button men during several engagements; the 7th Armored Brigade located a primed rocket launcher and killed several more button men in battles; and the 460th Armored Brigade located several tunnel shafts and killed an RPG-wielding operative.

In the Strip’s center, the 99th Division continued to battle button men in the Netzarim Corridor area, including by calling in airstrikes, the IDF says.

In one incident in central Gaza, troops of the 414th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit spotted a cell that had fired RPGs at troops and directed a drone to strike and kill the operatives, the army adds.

Israel has conducted renewed military sweeps this month of parts of northern Gaza where it had declared the end of major operations in January. At the time, it also predicted its forces would return to prevent a regrouping by the Paleostinian Islamist group that rules Gaza.

One site has been Jabalia, the largest of Gaza Strip's eight historic refugee camps. On Saturday, troops and tanks edged into streets so far spared the ground offensive, residents said. In one strike, medics said 15 Paleostinians were killed and dozens maimed.

IDF calls on Palestinians in coastal neighborhoods in north Gaza to evacuate

[IsraelTimes] The Israeli military is calling on Palestinians in additional neighborhoods of northern Gaza to evacuate the area, as it presses on with its operation against Hamas in Jabaliya.

Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, publishes a list of the new zones that need to be evacuated alongside the announcement.

Last weekend, the IDF issued an evacuation warning for Jabaliya, before it pushed into the area. It has since twice expanded the evacuation zone, and the latest announcement includes the al-Atatra and al-Karama areas on the coast.

Palestinian civilians are told to move to shelters west of Gaza City.

The IDF operation against Hamas in Jabaliya was launched after it identified terror operatives regrouping there.

IDF says 2 soldiers killed, 4 seriously wounded during fighting in southern Gaza

[IsrelTimes] The IDF announces the deaths of two soldiers killed during fighting in the southern Gazoo Strip on Saturday.

The slain troops are named as Staff Sgt. Nachman Meir Haim Vaknin, 20, from Eilat and Staff Sgt. Noam Bittan, 20, from Yad Rambam.

The pair served in the Givati Brigade’s reconnaissance unit.

Vaknin and Bittan were killed and another two soldiers and an officer of the Givati reconnaissance unit were seriously maimed as a result of a blast in a booby-trapped tunnel shaft in the Rafah area.

Their deaths bring the toll of slain troops in the IDF’s ground offensive against Hamas

BREAKING: Iranian President's Helo Suffers 'Accident' or 'Incident' - Either Way, It Went Down

Finally, thank to Frank G for posting, and all who added updates in comments — you all are why we all come here to find out what’s going on in the world.
[HotAir, HT Grom] A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi suffered a “hard landing” on Sunday, Iranian state media reported, without immediately elaborating.

Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV said the incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Traveling with Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province and other officials, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. One local government official used the word “crash” to describe the incident, but he acknowledged to an Iranian newspaper that he had yet to reach the site himself.

There are breaking reports that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has been in a helicopter crash in a remote northern area of the country and that rescuers are trying to reach him and his crew.

State media is currently calling it a "hard landing" - suggesting that the president is alive and well, however no other details on the precise nature of the helicopter incident have been revealed. According to the NYT, 16 rescue teams have been dispatched to locate the helicopter, however inclement weather are hampering the effort, according to the reports. The teams have failed to locate the crash after nearly five hours.

#20  The Times of Israel has some background information on President Raisi:

Raisi, 63, is a hard-liner who formerly led the country’s judiciary. He is viewed as a protégé of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some analysts have suggested he could replace the 85-year-old leader after his death or resignation from the role.

Raisi won Iran’s 2021 presidential election, a vote that saw the lowest turnout in the Islamic Republic’s history. Raisi is sanctioned by the US in part over his involvement in the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988 at the end of the bloody Iran-Iraq war.

Under Raisi, Iran now enriches uranium at nearly weapons-grade levels and hampers international inspections. Iran has armed Russia in its war on Ukraine, as well as launched a massive drone and missile attack on Israel last month, and continued arming proxy groups in the Mideast, like Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

IDF jets strike Hezbollah positions in south Lebanon; drone, rocket attacks in north throughout day cause no injuries
[IsraelTimes] Israeli fighter jets struck additional Hezbollah buildings and infrastructure in southern Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
’s Ayta ash-Shab, Odaisseh, Aitaroun, and Ramyeh earlier today, the military says.

The IDF also says that one explosive-laden drone launched from Lebanon earlier struck an area near the border community of Yiftah, causing no injuries.

Other incidents of sirens warning of incoming drones have ended without damage or injuries, the IDF adds.

Several rockets were also fired from Lebanon at northern Israel today, causing no injuries, according to the military.

Hezbollah has claimed 10 rocket, missile and drone attacks on the border today.
