Somalia: Puntland Forces Seize ISIS Hideout as U.S.-Backed Operation Gains Momentum
[Garowe] Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
’s defense forces have taken full control of the strategic area of Elka Wangable, located north of Qandala district in Somalia’s Bari region, following a series of coordinated military operations, officials said Saturday.

Several Puntland army officers confirmed that ISIS murderous Moslems were pushed out of the area, which had served for years as a key base for the holy warrior group’s leaders, fighters, and their families.

Elka Wangable, known for its perennial water well, had been a crucial stronghold for ISIS since 2016. Surrounded by mountains and natural caves, the area provided the group with effective cover and a sustainable living environment, making it a long-term base for operations and planning.

Local sources say ISIS fighters vacated the area ahead of the Puntland assault, although their current whereabouts remain unknown. It is suspected that they may have retreated into nearby mountainous terrain.

The location’s proximity to coastal routes also made it strategically valuable, allowing for the smuggling of weapons and supplies. Wangable served as a launchpad for roadside kaboomings and ambushes, particularly in the Toga-Jeceel area, where multiple attacks on military convoys have occurred in recent years.

Intelligence reports indicate that ISIS began reestablishing its presence in Wangable in late 2024, initially sending women and kiddies before reinforcing the area with fighters and heavy weapons.

This resurgence followed a significant setback suffered during Puntland’s Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on February 11 that targeted their bases in the region.

Puntland authorities have vowed to continue military operations to clear remaining Death Eater hideouts and prevent future regrouping.

Somalia Executes Three More al-Shabaab Members After Conviction for Deadly Attacks
[Garowe] Three more members of al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
were executed on Thursday following their conviction by the military court, which linked their activities to the violent mostly peaceful Islamic turbans, who have caused havoc in the Horn of Africa nation.

According to court documents, the three Lions of Islam were found guilty of carrying out liquidations and explosions in the capital, Mogadishu, leading to the death of several people, including resilient military officers.

They were also linked to violence in the neighbouring Lower Shabelle region, which has been the epicentre of the battles between the Somali National Army (SNA), the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the turbans.

The three were identified as Abukar Ahmed Mohammed, Hamse Jeylani Abdullahi "Abtiga", and Hassan Ali Hussein "Garaad". The court placed them in various murder scenes, leading to the landmark ruling that led to their execution, Thursday.

This brings to number of al-Shabaab convicts executed so far in August 2025 to six, further signalling the significance of the fight against al-Shabaab, using the judicial system, which accords all the accused the mandatory right to a fair hearing.

Last week, the Somali government executed three men convicted of assassinating two security forces, a civil servant, an army medic and two civilians, in separate attacks in Mogadishu and Afgoye, officials said.

The three were identified as Abdi Hassan Roble, a grenade thrower and assassin; Ibrahim Omar Haji Sham’un, a surveillance agent and assassin, and Qudama Hamze Yusuf, a member of al-Shabaab’s Ightiyalat in the Banadir region.

Qudama was convicted by the military tribunals in January 2023, while the other two were convicted in 2022. The government is fighting al-Shabaab using the military, internal mechanisms such as controlling financial flow and also through the robust military courts.

i capital of Sanaa this morning.

The strike was carried out by Israeli Navy missile boats, according to a defense official. Explosions were reported earlier at a power plant in the area.

"The strikes were conducted in response to repeated attacks by the Houthi terrorist regime against the State of Israel and its citizens, including the launching of surface-to-surface missiles and UAVs toward Israeli territory," the IDF says.

Since the last Israeli strike on Yemen on July 21, the Iran-backed Houthis have launched at least seven ballistic missiles and seven drones at Israel.

Translated from the Erem News link:
Violent explosions at dawn on Sunday shook the Yemeni capital Sana'a, amid news of an Israeli air strike against the Houthi militia.

Yemeni sources said that a violent explosion occurred at the Haziz power plant south of Sana'a, coinciding with two air raids on the area.

Eyewitnesses said that a huge fire broke out inside the power plant, which led to a tople power outage from the area that witnessed the explosions.

Yemeni activists and journalists suggested that the explosions were caused by Israeli raids, while this was not confirmed by any official authority or by Israel.

In the first reaction of the Houthi militia, a member of the political bureau of the Assad belt: “A criminal and bankrupt enemy that only targets service facilities,” in charges apparently of Israel of launching raids.

US sends extra forces to Caribbean to deter drug cartels
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The United States is sending additional military forces to the Caribbean and Latin America. The measures are being taken as part of the fight against drug cartels, CNN reported on August 16, citing two Pentagon officials.

The TV channel's interlocutor specified that we are talking about more than 4,000 Marines. In addition, a nuclear attack submarine, an additional P8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, several destroyers and a cruiser with guided missiles were also sent to this area, which is the area of responsibility of the US Army's Southern Command.

“The additional funds are aimed at eliminating threats to US national security from <…> narco-terrorist organizations in the region,” said a source familiar with the situation.

For now, the strengthening of the group in the Caribbean is mostly demonstrative, one official explained. However, he noted, if US President Donald Trump orders military action against drug cartels, the military will have more options for action when strengthening the group.

The New York Times reported on August 8 that the White House chief issued a secret directive instructing the Pentagon to begin preparing to use military force against a number of Latin American drug cartels that the Trump administration has designated as terrorist organizations.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said in March that if Mexican authorities continue to do nothing against local drug cartels, the United States will be forced to take decisive action. At the same time, businessman and former head of the US Department of Government Effectiveness Elon Musk said that the only way to deal with Mexican cartels is to conduct a special operation in Mexico.

‘They’re in Wall Street, they’re in the White House’: Thousands protest Israel in NYC led by Mahmoud Khalil
[IsraelTimes] Protesters call to ‘stop starving Gaza’ at New York’s largest pro-Palestinian protest in recent months; Mahmoud Khalil tells crowd Israel ‘deliberately’ killing Gazans with US tax money

Several thousand protesters rallied against Israel in New York City on Saturday, in the largest pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel protest held in the city in recent months.

The demonstration, dubbed “Stop Starving Gaza: Mass March for Humanity,” took place in front of the New York Public Library in Manhattan, next to Bryant Park, and was organized by an array of Arab-led and far-left socialist activist groups.

In the days leading up to Saturday’s protest, organizers said it was being backed by more than 200 groups from around the US, and that they would be busing in participants from six states and Washington DC. k
The crowd beat spoons against pans
…ooooh, scary! Except that it’s been done before by people who risked their lives to protest in the cause of liberty, instead of getting paid in the cause of evil…
and held signs demanding to “Stop starving Gaza,” Stop killing journalists,” and “Defeat imperialist/Zionist genocidal war-makers.”
Truly, truly profound. And definitely persuasive. Truly.
Palestinian flags waved above the crowds of people as they marched, chanting “End the siege on Gaza now!”

Brian Becker, of the far-left Answer Coalition, told the crowd that “the US government is standing with the fascist regime in Tel Aviv, but we, the American people, stand with you, the Palestinian people.”

“They’re in Wall Street, they’re in the White House, they’re in the center of imperialism,” Becker said.

Some in the crowd answered with shouts of “shame” and “murderers.”
Just like the recently arrested Pink Shirted Subway Sandwich Man. Could he be an Antifa fellow traveler, or even a cadre as well as a former DOJ lawyer?
The rally appeared to be the largest since the arrest of pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil
…30, the Damascus-born Palestinian (with dual Algerian citizenship through his mother, daughter of Algerian revolutionaries) got a Masters in Paleo Protest from Columbia, where he applied his training fronting Apartheid Divest’s support of Hamas since 10/8/2023, which overlapped his unadmitted work as an UNWRA political affairs officer — that last supporting the government’s accusation of immigration fraud, while the pro-Hamas activism is accounted as supporting a listed terror organization. He is represented by 19 activist attorneys, including the ACLU. The case is now wending its way up to the US Supreme Court. Mr. Khalil worked his way through college in Beirut as an MI-6 vetted local staffer at the British embassy, which is how he met his future wife — hijabi Leb-American dentist Noor Abdalla, suggesting either Muslim Brotherhood or Hezbollah connections. No doubt it was for her sake he went to Columbia instead of Oxford…
in March mobilized several thousand protesters.

Khalil, who was released from a federal detention center in June, took part in Saturday’s protest and addressed the crowds outside the public library.
Is he trying to get himself expelled?
Israel is destroying Gaza “systematically, deliberately,” he declared to cheers of support. “And they’re doing it with American bombs, with American cover, with American tax money — your money.”

Khalil, who has justified October 7 and downplayed campus antisemitism, then led the crowd as it set off on a march through midtown Manhattan.

In the days leading up to Saturday’s protest, organizers said it was being backed by more than 200 groups from around the US, and that they would be busing in participants from six states and Washington DC.

Leading groups signed onto the protest included far-left outfits such as the People’s Forum, ANSWER Coalition, the Democratic Socialists of America and CodePink, Arab-led groups including the lfuth Movement, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Arab American Association of New York, as well as the anti-Zionist Jewish Voice for Peace
…founded by Hamas BDS activist Hatem Bazian, while its social media managers live in Lebanon and a large chunk of its funding comes from the Soros Open Society Foundations…
and various student groups.

There had been a decrease in major anti-Israel street protests in New York in recent months, but activists have begun a series of regular rallies ahead of the United Nations General Assembly that will take place in the city in September.

Police strip-searched three more women arrested at Thursday anti-Bibi hostqge deal demo
No doubt whatsoever they deserved it.
[IsraelTimes] Lawyer says search was legally unjustified and violated protesters’ rights, police maintain it was routine; 18 similar complaints filed recently

Police strip-searched three female protesters after their arrest Thursday night at a Tel Aviv demonstration demanding a Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. hostage deal, according to a Friday report.

The women were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, Haaretz said, a charge that doesn’t typically lead to strip-searches, even though police have the authority to conduct them.

The women were arrested with two other men who were not strip-searched, the paper said.

Two of the protesters said that they were required to pull down their pants and lift their shirts.

Efrat Safran, one of the detainees, told Haaretz they were warned that "’If you resist, we’ll use reasonable force.’ We were left with no choice but to comply."

Safran added that this was her fourth protest-related arrest, but she had never previously been asked to undress. Another detainee said the officer justified the search as necessary to ensure she was not a danger to herself or others.

According to the report, police said the search was a lawful and routine procedure, applied to all detainees, to prevent detainees from having objects that could harm them or others in the holding cell.

The protesters’ lawyer argued that since the detainees were suspected only of public order offenses, which do not legally justify a strip search, the procedure was an unnecessary violation of their rights.

Eighteen complaints have been filed against police in the past month over partial strip searches of protesters.

Last week, Channel 12 reported that three women were strip-searched after being detained for blocking a road during an anti-government protest in Tel Aviv.

Another man who was arrested for the same reason was asked only to lift his shirt but was not strip-searched, the network said, noting that officers are entitled to perform strip searches only where they have a reasonable suspicion that justifies it.

Police told the network that "the search was done in accordance with the authority granted to officers."

Israel to resume supply of tents, shelter gear as it readies to move Gaza City residents

beginning on Sunday, ahead of plans by the military to evacuate the Paleostinian civilian population of Gaza City.

Saturday’s announcement came as Israel prepares for a military operation to conquer the Gaza Strip’s largest city, which was approved by the cabinet last week, despite hesitation from the military.

According to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the Defense Ministry body that deals with humanitarian aid, the tents and shelter equipment will be sent into Gaza via the Kerem Shalom Crossing by the United Nations

and other international bodies, following a "thorough security inspection" by Israeli authorities.

COGAT said the move was being carried out "in accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and as part of the IDF’s preparations to move the population from combat zones to the southern Gaza Strip for their protection."

The Israeli government has instructed the IDF to ready to capture Gaza City, where an estimated one million civilians are sheltering. The civilians will be instructed to head to southern Gaza for their safety, according to officials.

Israel resumed humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza on May 19, after a pause since March 2, but until now, none of the deliveries have included shelter equipment, which has not been allowed for 26 weeks.

Alongside the announcement of renewed tent deliveries to the Strip, the Prime Minister’s Office gave special permission to Indonesia to airdrop humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Kan public broadcaster reported on Saturday.

Indonesia, the country with the largest Moslem population in the world, does not have relations with Israel.

In response to the report, a diplomatic official told Kan, "Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu invites all countries that request to airdrop food to Gaza to join the humanitarian effort."

With the move, Indonesia joined fellow southeast Asian nation Singapore, as well as Canada, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Belgium, La Belle France, Spain, Greece and Italia, as well as Israel, in the effort to airdrop aid into Gaza since Israel reinstated the policy last month, amid mounting international criticism over hunger in Gaza.

Airdrops are only able to deliver a small fraction of what can come into Gaza by land via trucks, and they also pose safety risks for the civilians who can be hit by the packages from above.

ZAMIR TO REVIEW GAZA CITY CAPTURE PLANS SUNDAY
Ahead of the start of the IDF’s mission to capture Gaza City, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir was set to visit the Southern Command on Sunday to review the army’s operational plans, according to military officials.

The plans, based on a general outline green-lit by Zamir last week, were set to be discussed at the Southern Command Saturday night.

If approved, Zamir will present the plans to Defense Minister Israel Katz, likely later in the day.

The IDF is currently carrying out an operation in the Zeitoun neighborhood, on the outskirts of Gaza City. For the major offensive, the military will need to call up reservists.

As the army pushes into Zeitoun, Gaza’s Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
-run civil defense agency said that Israeli attacks killed at least 39 people on Saturday, warning that intensifying strikes on the Gaza City neighborhood were placing its remaining residents in mortal danger.

Civil defense front man Mahmud Bassal said conditions in Zeitoun were rapidly deteriorating, with neighborhood residents having little to no access to food and water amid heavy Israeli bombardment.

He said that about 50,000 people were estimated to be in that area of Gaza City, "the majority of whom are without food or water" and lacking "the basic necessities of life."

Media restrictions in Gaza and difficulties accessing swaths of the Paleostinian territory mean AFP is unable to independently verify the tolls and details provided by the civil defense agency, the Israeli military, and other sources.

In recent days, Gaza City residents have told AFP of more frequent Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s targeting residential areas, including in Zeitoun, while earlier this week, the Hamas terror group denounced "aggressive" Israeli ground incursions.

To Bassal, Israel was carrying out "ethnic cleansing" in Zeitoun.

Israeli officials have dismissed similar accusations before, and the military insists it abides by international law.

According to the civil defense agency, at least 13 of the Paleostinians killed Saturday were shot by troops as they were waiting to collect food aid near distribution sites in the north and in the south.

IDF DRONE CRASHES IN GAZA CITY
Earlier Saturday, a small Israeli military surveillance drone crashed in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City, according to Paleostinian media and the IDF.

The military said the unmanned aerial vehicle, a Skylark 3 model, was on a reconnaissance mission when it made an "emergency landing in the northern Gaza Strip following a technical malfunction."

There was no fear of information leaking from the device, the IDF added.

The Skylark is a tactical surveillance drone created by Elbit Systems and operated by the IDF’s Artillery Corps. Many Skylark UAVs have crashed in hostile territory over the years.

Explosion rocks Damascus, no casualties reported
[Rudaw] A bomb planted inside an old car went kaboom! in Damascus on Saturday. There are no immediate reports of casualties.

"The vehicle involved in the earth-shattering kaboom had been parked unattended for some time," the chief of internal security in Damascus province, General Osama Muhammad Khair Atika, told Rudaw.

"The area is well-known, a highway next to the hotel and the Ministry of Information building," he added.

"Engineering units secured the cordon and investigation units have now entered the area to review information and photographs from the site so we can complete our procedures," he said.

The car was parked near the Golden Hotel in the Mezzeh area of western Damascus, according to the governor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

This is the latest in a string of recent explosions in Syria.

On Thursday, a blast in the northwestern city of Idlib killed at least four people, including two children, and injured five others. While initial reports described the site as a residential building, local authorities told Rudaw the blast occurred at a warehouse storing "war remnants."

In late July, a series of blasts in a warehouse in northern Idlib killed 12 people.

SDF says freed four fighters from ISIS captivity in east Syria
[Rudaw] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday that they freed four of their fighters from suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) captivity, three days after they were captured in eastern Syria.

"The Deir Ezzor Military Council forces have successfully freed four of their fighters, who had been kidnapped by a cell suspected of links to ISIS," the SDF said in a statement.

"The abduction occurred last Wednesday while the fighters were at a health center in the town of Gharanij, east of Deir Ezzor, receiving medical treatment outside the scope of their official duties," it added.

The Deir ez-Zor Military Council is a local force affiliated with the SDF and is responsible for security in SDF-held areas of the Arab-majority province.

During their sweeping operation in Gharanij, the SDF and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) detained 12 ISIS suspects.

The SDF said the "campaign is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside."

The Kurdish-led SDF and its affiliates have carried out numerous operations this year to counter what they say is a resurgence in ISIS activity, targeting both their forces and civilians.

Since its territorial defeat in Syria in 2019, ISIS has been trying to regain its strength, particularly after a coalition of opposition groups led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has recently reported a significant uptick in ISIS operations in areas controlled by the SDF and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES).

According to the war monitor, "ISIS has carried out 152 operations" in DAANES-administered regions since the beginning of 2025. These include "armed assaults, assassinations, and bombings."

The operations have resulted in 64 deaths, comprising 45 SDF fighters, one SDF-affiliated member, ten civilians, and eight ISIS holy warriors, according to SOHR.

Iranian policeman killed in clash in restive southeast
[IsraelTimes] Gunmen in Iran’s volatile southeast killed a police officer in a shootout with security forces, news agencies report, with a jihadist group claiming the attack.

The clash occurred in Sistan-Baluchistan province, one of the country’s poorest regions and the scene of frequent violence between the security forces and Baluch minority rebels, Sunni extremist groups and drug traffickers.

“In an exchange of fire… between Iranshahr police and armed men, one officer was wounded and another killed,” the Fars news agency says, citing the police.

The ISNA news agency also reports the deadly gun battle.

Sistan-Baluchistan is home to a large ethnic Baluch population, most of whom are Sunni Muslims, in contrast to Iran’s Shiite majority.

Fars says the assailants were wounded in the firefight, fled the scene and are being pursued by police.

Later on social media, the Sunni jihadist group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice) claimed responsibility for the attack. In recent years the group based across the border in Pakistan has claimed multiple attacks in the area.

On Sunday, the group carried out an attack in Sistan-Baluchistan that killed a police officer, according to local media. On July 26, at least six people were killed in an attack claimed by Jaish al-Adl on a courthouse in the same province.
