TONOPAH, Ariz. (KABC) -- An Arizona trooper trying to help a motorist in a rollover crash was shot in an ambush-style attack by a random suspect, who was then fatally shot by a Good Samaritan driving by.
The trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) was at a traffic stop when he received a report about a driver whose car was shot at near a median at milepost 81 on Interstate 10, reported ABC15, an ABC affiliate in Arizona.
The trooper left the traffic stop to investigate this call when he came across a rollover crash and saw that a woman had been ejected from the wreckage.
When the trooper began working to block lanes, a suspect came from an unknown direction and "ambushed" him, according to DPS.
The suspect shot him at least once in the chest-shoulder area and fought the trooper to the ground.
A passerby saw the fight unfolding and stopped to render aid to the trooper, who asked for help.
However, the suspect ignored the Good Samaritan's orders to stop attacking the trooper.
That's when the passerby went to his car, grabbed a gun and fatally shot the suspect, reported ABC15.

Unintended consequence of Obama's gun-sales program - more folks are forgetting to remove their firearm from their briefcase before going to the airport. 3,391 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at checkpoints across the country, averaging more than nine firearms per day. Of those, 2,815 (83 percent) were loaded. Firearms were intercepted at a total of 238 airports; 2 more airports than last year. There was a 28 percent increase in firearm discoveries from 2015's total of 2,653. That Dallas, Austin, and Houston were in the top ten should surprise no one, but number one caught me off guard: Atlanta.

Correlate with the election map. Blue cities and progs who rush out and buy guns, not knowing how and when to properly transport. You expect to buy them in NYC?
[Deutsche Welle ] Vendors are a common sight on the streets of Harare. They sell all manner of goods including fruit, vegetables, fresh meat and fish. But the sale of perishable food on the streets is not being properly monitored, and officials say this is a threat to public health, encouraging the spread of diseases like typhoid.
A total of 2,225 cases of typhoid and 9 deaths from the disease were recorded in 2016 and around three quarters of all cases were from Harare. In a response to the typhoid outbreak, Zimbabwe's Health Minister David Parirenyatwa has banned the sale of food on the streets of Harare.
Parirenyatwa stressed the need for controls and their implementation. But vendors in Harare have reacted angrily to the ban on the sale of food, saying it is threatening their livelihood. Unemployment is high in Zimbabwe and many people are dependent on street vending in order to make ends meet.
Ronald Mureverwi from the National Vendors Union Zimbabwe told DW the ban was a shocking move that could only have have come from an irresponsible government.
Mbare, the Harare suburb hardest hit by the typhoid outbreak, is in a sorry state. There are piles of uncollected garbage and drainage is poor. Mbare is also home to Harare's biggest vegetable market. Harare council officials say the city is failing to provide services because some residents are not paying rates.
Health Minister Parirenyatwa conceded that their biggest fear was cholera. "We can manage more or less with typhoid, but cholera will just be a nightmare for us."
In 2008, cholera claimed at least 4,000 lives in Zimbabwe. It happened at the height of the country's economic crisis when most of the public hospitals were closed due to a shortage of medicines and the flight of health workers abroad.
[Iran Press TV] Nigerian politicians have voted to offer Gambia ... The Gambia is actually surrounded by Senegal on all sides but its west coast. It has a population of about 1.7 million. The difference between the two is that in colonial days Senegal was ruled by La Belle France and The Gambia (so-called because there's only one of it, unlike Guinea, of which there are the Republic of Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, New Guinea, the English coin in circulation between 1663 and 1813, and Guyana, which sounds like it should be another one) was ruled by Britain... n President Yahya Jammeh asylum if he hands over power to opposition leader Adama Barrow, who was declared the winner of the country's December presidential election.
The House of Representatives, Nigeria’s lower house, on Thursday approved a motion to authorize President Muhammadu Buhari to offer Jammeh asylum if he steps down when his five-year mandate ends on January 19.
Jammeh has a constitutional right to remain in office until his term ends.
The Nigerian president is due to travel with other West African leaders to Gambia on Friday to persuade Jammeh to accept the election results.
Jammeh had initially accepted the results of the December 1 election, in which Barrow was declared the winner, but reversed his position more than a week later and called for a revote.
Barrow says Jammeh lacks the constitutional authority to call for a new vote or to invalidate the election.
Leaders from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have already traveled to the Gambia in an attempt to strike a deal with the president to make him to leave power. ECOWAS has said that Jammeh must step down and vowed "to take all necessary action to enforce the results" of the election.

[SPUTNIKNEWS] MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) ‐ Venezuela’s former defense minister, retired general Raul Isaias Baduel has been detained for failing to comply with his house arrest, Interior Minister Nestor Reverol has announced.
"We will continue to monitor all threats to internal order and social peace," Reverol stressed on Thursday, as quoted by Venezolana de Television, saying that "criminal information has been collected in the raid of his [Baduel’s] residence" that points to alleged conspiratorial activities.
Baduel served as Venezuela’s Defense Minister under the presidency of Hugo Chavez. It was Baduel who helped Chavez return to power after the 2002 coup attempt. In 2007 Baduel became an opposition leader and in 2009 he was jugged. Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
The former defense minister was sentenced to over seven years in prison for corruption in 2010. In 2015, he was allowed to serve his sentence at home.

[Free Beacon] Russian state-owned media companies were declared in a new government list to be of "essential significance" to Moscow’s national security and defense.
The list, published to Russia’s legal information site on Wednesday, places Kremlin-run outlets on equal footing to the nation’s security services "in protecting the rights and lawful interests of Russian citizens, as well as defense potential and security of the state," the Moscow Times reported.
Kremlin propaganda news agency Rossiya Segodnya is among the 64 state-run companies on the list. Russian President Vladimir Putin launched Rossiya Segodnya in December 2013 to promote Moscow’s image abroad.
The head of the media company, Dmitry Kiselyov, has threatened to turn the U.S. into "radioactive ash" and called on Russian troops to shoot down American bombers that target the Syrian regime.
The list, first approved by Russia on Dec. 31, also names VGTRK, which runs a number of state channels, the Federal Guard Service, and the Federal Security Service as vital operators in keeping Moscow safe. US Kremlin surrogates MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and CBS not mentioned in this article.
Brazilian police have unveiled a plot led by a Ukrainian armed movement to recruit Brazilian neo-Nazis with combat experience to fight pro-Russian rebels in the European country’s civil war.
A series of raids took place last month in seven cities on the homes of neo-Nazis in order to prevent possible attacks against Jews and gays in Porto Alegre, according to Brazilian police, who seized vast amounts of Nazi propaganda material and also illegal ammunition, reported the Zero Hora news portal.
The Brazilian Israelite Confederation, the country’s umbrella Jewish organization, said Monday in a statement on its website that it is "following the investigation," but preferred not to address journalists. It re-published news articles about the case from Brazilian newspapers on its site.
"Brazil’s simmering neo-Nazi movement, with its secret world of swastikas, hate propaganda and street violence, was being recruited by right-wing extremists in Ukraine," reported the Financial Times on Tuesday.
In Brasil????? Not exactly a revolutionary concept.
Dear God! They're executing the whole family?... No. Wait.
[DAWN] The family of a Pak inmate on death-row in China has requested the governments of both Pakistain and China to intervene and halt the execution of Shah Hussain, 50, who is set to be executed on Friday (today).
Shah Hussain had been reportedly convicted of smuggling narcotics in China, his elder son Saddam Hussain told DawnNews, claiming that his father was sentenced to death in a baseless and false case of smuggling.
He said that the family received a telephone call on January 6 from China and the caller, who introduced himself as Mohammad Akhtar, a Pakistain embassy official in China, told the family about the sentence handed over to Shah Hussain.
The official informed that "Hussain was set to be hanged on January 13". He also told the family that if they intend to visit China to receive the body after execution, they would have to come and reside on their own.
Saddam further said that the family has not been in contact with Shah Hussain for almost last three years now.
He added that his father, a driver by profession, had left for Iran three years ago. He initially remained in contact with the family over telephone for a month or so and then suddenly he stopped calling. "Since then we have had no direct with him.
After two years of Shah Hussain's suspected disappearance, the family received a call from a Pak official in China telling them that their father had been "incarcerated I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece! in a case pertaining to smuggling of narcotics".
"We were told that our father has been kept at some Guangzhou detention centre," Saddam said.
Since then the family has repeatedly tried to approach the Chinese authorities and also contacted the foreign office, requesting them to intervene in the matter.
Shahid Hussain, the brother of detained convict Shah, went to the Foreign Office and submitted an application before the director (China), requesting the authorities to change the punishment from death row to life imprisonment.
But according to the family, they have not received any response from the Chinese authorities till date.

What closed Sears, et al., is lack of customer service and not having what I need/want in the store.
I'd rather be able to go pick up something I need from the store, but so often it's not available locally, even though I've looked in several stores. What choice to I have?

Sears blew it. With their catalog sales history they had everything in place to pre-empt Amazon, but failed to recognize the opportunity/threat, and continued to charge extra for catalog sales.
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... ’s parliament approved three more articles from an 18-article constitutional amendment package to shift the current parliamentary system to an executive presidency amid a fierce brawl in parliament that left deputies injured and damaged the hall.
The third, fourth and fifth articles of the constitutional amendment package, which include moves to reduce the age of candidacy in presidential elections, passed with over 341 votes in late night sessions on Jan. 11 and 12, while main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) politicians’ staunch criticism and their attempt to occupy the parliamentary chair led to fury among politicians.
The vote to reduce the age of candidacy from 25 to 18 was the first motion that was passed, with the attendance of 485 politicians, of which 341 approved and 139 opposed the motion.
The fourth article, which increases the parliament’s term from four years to five and regulates the presidential election procedure, according to which members of parliament and the president will be elected on the same day, was passed with 343 affirmations and 139 rejections. The fifth article regulating the duties and authorities of the parliament was accepted by 343 votes with seven rejections.
’Secret ballot’ arguments
Tension in parliament mounted once again after opposition politicians criticized ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputies for violating the principles of a "secret ballot," which was seen as an effort to exert pressure on other politicians who might be considering voting against the package during the third motion.
During the row, CHP politicians, who were trying to video AKP politicians casting their ballots, faced fury from AKP politicians, who blocked opposition members from watching the process. The two sides’ altercation eventually led to a fistfight.
CHP Kocaeli politician Fatma Kaplan said she was physically injured by an AKP politician as he tried to confiscate her recording devices to stop her from videoing the sessions.
The voting had to be repeated due to the fight.
CHP occupies parliament chair
During discussions on the fifth article of the constitutional amendment, which permits the regulation of duties and responsibilities of the parliament, the ruling party and opposition party’s politicians engaged in another brawl, leading to injuries after CHP politicians occupied the parliament’s chair in protest at the article.
"The authority you permit today will bring about the end of this country. You [politicians] are trying to destroy yourself [parliament] without anyone seeing. We will not allow this," Özgur Özel, CHP’s group deputy chairperson, said early Jan. 12, repeating the CHP’s early criticisms that the vote on such an important article be cast late at night when the public cannot be informed.
"We are taking the chair under our protection in order to ensure the fulfillment of the duty of defending the people’s chair, in order to tell the people and ensure that this article will be discussed in parliament, while looking into the eyes of the people. We are protecting the people’s chair from you," Özel said.
Following Özel’s statement, CHP politicians approached the chair with applause from the crowd and surrounded the chair arm-in-arm. The CHP’s attempt to occupy the chair caused outrage among AKP politicians, who also walked to the chair in attempt to oust the CHP politicians from the podium. The sides’ altercation transformed into a fistfight, which resulted in injuries to politicians while damaging the parliament’s furniture.
Following the physical brawl, the parliament’s speaker rushed the process by refusing to permit questions and rejected proposals from politicians, which prompted more criticism from CHP politicians.

[FoxNews] Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced on "Fox and Friends" Thursday that he will be heading up a new cyber security committee for President-elect Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... The committee is set to meet with Trump on a regular basis to bring together leaders of the private sector to share their thoughts on the best cyber security methods.
"It's his belief, which I share, that a lot of the solutions are out there. We're just not sharing them. ... My belief is, as always, that the answer to cyber security is gonna be found in the private sector," Giuliani said.

I'm kind of surprised he accepted the position. Pleased though. Actually a positive for Trump that he could find a way to get Giuliani into the administration without giving him what he wanted. Do wonder if it's a holding position for eventual FBI Director....

However, with someone like Rudy, you may task and get results so will see.
Linda Bean on calls for L.L. Bean boycott: It's bullying
L.L. Bean Board Member and Co-Owner Linda Bean on calls for a boycott of the company because of her support for President-elect Donald Trump and the state of the U.S. economy.
Linda Bean, the granddaughter and co-owner of L.L. Bean, on Thursday said U.S. businesses are under attack and being bullied by anti-Trump groups.
A group, Grabyourwallet.org, called for a boycott of L.L. Bean after Linda Bean, one of 50 family members that own the outdoor apparel maker, contributed $60,000 to a political action committee supporting President-elect Donald Trump. The Federal Election Commission said the donation exceeded the PAC’s individual donor limit of $5,000.
"It’s bullying," Bean told the FOX Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo. "They want to control how we spend our money, what we buy, where we buy it. That’s wrong, it’s un-American."
Shortly after her appearance on Fox Business, Trump tweeted a thank you to Linda Bean and urged customers to buy L.L. Bean. Link to order free L.L. Bean catalog.

Should the Russian scientists (and increasing numbers of others) be right about the coming little ice age resulting from the sun hitting the cool side of its multi-century cycle, L.L. Bean will benefit equally from the Weather Channel placement. I don't think it implies support for hypothesis of human-driven global warming as such. What they benefit from is people thinking about and dressing for the weather, regardless what it might happen to be.

[INUTH] Pakistain is not a country known to be kind toward its minorities. A US state department report in 2014 noted that mob violence against minority groups, and police torture of religious dissidents was prevalent across Pakistain. The country’s strict blasphemy law, which puts Pakistain’s minorities at the receiving end of fundamentalist violence, has a history of causing liquidations and provoking terrorist attacks by hardline groups.
While it does have a terrible record in protecting its minorities, the current Pakistain Moslem League (PML-N) government of Nawaz Sharif ... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf... is trying to turn the tables on the country’s critics.
"The day is not far when Pakistain will be recognised as a minorities-friendly country due to steps being undertaken to better the lives of minority groups," Nawaz Sharif said during a recent visit to an old Hindu temple.

The confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to head the CIA was abruptly halted by a power outage just as it was getting under way Thursday morning on Capitol Hill.
The lights went out about 10:15 a.m. in a hearing room at the Hart Senate Office Building, where the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence was opening proceedings to consider the nomination of Rep. Mike Pompeo, Kansas Republican, to lead the spy agency.
The outage came just as Sen. Mark Warner, the committee’s ranking Democrat, was making opening remarks. He was commenting on how he and the committee’s chairman, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, are committed to examining the intelligence community’s recent assessment of Russian meddling in the U.S election.
“Chairman Burr and I have committed to conduct a review of the intelligence supporting the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, sought to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election in order to undermine public faith in our democratic process,” Mr. Warner was saying. The lights went out just before he uttered the word “Russia.”
It was unclear what had caused the power outage. Moments later, lawmakers moved to hold a recess and then relocate the hearing to another building on Capitol Hill.
Some in the hearing room could be heard wondering aloud and joking about whether it was “the Russians” who’d made the power go out.
