[Fox] Actor Gary Sinise raised $1.3 million to help members of the military and first responders by selling a1981 Jeep CJ7...twice.
The custom truck was auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson auction on Friday, with proceeds earmarked for the Gary Sinise Foundation, which runs a variety of programs aimed at entertaining and assisting veterans, active duty military, America's emergency services and their families.
The red, white and blue Jeep was built by Richard Rawling's Gas Monkey Garage and initially sold for $200,000, with another partner on the project, heavy equipment broker Sunbelt Rentals, donating an additional $1 million to the organization.
[Climate Depot] BEING careful not to confuse ‘weather’ with ‘climate’, even though our warmist friends have no problem finding a direct link between heatwaves and ‘climate change’, every summer, there’s no escaping the irony of cancelling a snow festival due to extreme cold in the era of extreme global warming climate change alarmism!
THE extreme irony highlighted by a support comment from Christine Muschi of the Montreal Gazette, before the cancellation – “It’s never too cold for Fete des Neige…”!
Continuing their tradition from December, 1941
FirearmsForum] A charter bus company had been hired for the 18-hour drive back to Arkansas. The Army had budgeted for a stop to get snacks. The bus company determined that the soldiers would reach North Platte, in western Nebraska, around the time they would likely be hungry. The company placed a call to the visitors' bureau: Was there anywhere in town that could handle a succession of 21 buses, and get 700 soldiers in and out for a quick snack?
North Platte said yes. North Platte has always said yes. The community welcomed more than 700 service men and women, North Platte, Nebraska, June 18-19.

Thanks to this article, I did some reading on WWII canteens & discovered this gem, now open as a National Historic Landmark, near Canton, OH and not far from where I live. Place is Dennison, Ohio. It was the 3rd largest canteen in WWII USA, and the only one still having its original appearance. At one time 13% of all WWII US servicemen passed through Dennison.
Place got the nickname "Dreamsville" from this 1942 Glenn Miller tune:

One of the world's longest running people's liberation wars appears in the news.
[Al Awsat] Morocco has asked the United Nations and the Security Council to put an end to the “violations and provocations” of the Polisario Front in the Guerguerat buffer zone.
In a letter seen by Asharq Al-Awsat on Friday, Morocco's UN Ambassador Omar Hilale cited three incidents from January 6 to 8 in which the Polisario staged drills, drove military vehicles in the buffer zone and opened up a new facility.
Morocco "strongly condemns these destabilizing actions" that violate a military agreement and "dangerously threaten the ceasefire," wrote Hilale.
He described the movements as "provocations" that could jeopardize UN-brokered talks on ending the Western Sahara conflict, and urged the Security Council and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to condemn the Polisario.
Asked by Asharq Al-Awsat about the Moroccan letter, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said: “I can confirm that we've received the letter from Morocco alleging violations of the ceasefire and related agreements in Western Sahara.”
“There is an established procedure for assessing such allegations by either party undertaken by the UN Mission on the ground, based on the impartial monitoring and observation functions of our colleagues in Western Sahara,” Dujarric told a daily press briefing in New York.
“MINURSO was present at both of these alleged incidents and did not observe anything amounting to a violation under the terms of the applicable agreements.”
However, he stressed that “incidents or issues which are identified as being violations of the applicable agreements are shared with the parties for their immediate action, a process which has been effective in preventing conflict and maintaining the ceasefire since its inception.”
“Such violations are also reported to the Security Council as part of the mission's normal reporting procedures,” he added.
[Al Jazeera] The political crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material... deepened on Sunday when the Constitutional Court confirmed the win of Felix Tshisekedi, rejecting claims of fraud, and runner-up Martin Fayulu promptly declared himself the country's "only legitimate president".
Fayulu's supporters have alleged an extraordinary backroom deal between outgoing President Joseph Kabila to rig the vote in favour of the opposition after the ruling party's candidate did so poorly that a Plan B was needed. Neither side has acknowledged the accusations.
The court, however, said Fayulu offered no proof to back his assertions that he had won easily based on leaked data attributed to the electoral commission.

[PRESSTV] Russia has warned the American destroyer USS Donald Cook deployed in the Black Sea against approaching Russian coasts, stressing that Moscow is closely watching and monitoring the warship’s actions.
Visits to the Black Sea by US warships have nothing to do with US security and are motivated by domestic politics, said Russian senator Alexei Pushkov on Sunday.
"US warships are becoming frequent visitors to the Black Sea. These visits have nothing to do with US security," Pushkov, a member of Russia’s Upper House Commission on Information Policy, wrote on his Twitter page.
"They flaunt their flag, send us a signal, and appease their own senators, who are demanding they send a whole military fleet to the Black Sea. They should keep away from our coastline," he warned.
The US guided-missile destroyer Donald Cook began moving towards the Black Sea on Saturday, less than two weeks after another US Navy vessel was deployed there.

[IsraelTimes] Jack Dorsey says he rejects most statements by far-right conspiracy theorist Ali Akbar, but thinks he makes ’interesting points’.
Dorsey acknowledged to the Huffington Post on Friday that he took advice from a figure known both as Ali Alexander and Ali Akbar. The Wall Street Journal first reported that Dorsey delayed the removal of provocateur and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones from Twitter on the advice of Akbar.
"I don’t act on all of his comments," Dorsey said of Akbar after the interviewer, Ashley Feinberg, read him a number of tweets by Akbar focusing on Jews. "I listen, and I think that’s the most important thing. I was introduced to him by a friend, and you know, he’s got interesting points. I don’t obviously agree with most. But, I think the perspective is interesting."
Akbar, on Twitter, frequently asks contentious interlocutors whether they are Jewish, and points out the Jewishness of figures whom he derides, like Bill Kristol, a conservative critic of President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... , and CNN anchor Jake Tapper. He tries to end arguments by accusing interlocutors of favoring "Jewish supremacy," and has said that Jews are "overrepresented" in the "liberal racist media and Hollywood." He also has praised Jews and Jewish practices, including Yom Kippur.
[Al Jazeera] Thousands of protesters have gathered in Syntagma Square in Athens to demonstrate against Greece's agreement with Macedonia to change the latter's name to Republic of North Macedonia.
Hundreds of buses, especially from northern Greece, brought protesters in for the rally that took place on Syntagma square near the parliament.
Police estimates put the number of demonstrators at 60,000 around midday while organisers said 100,000 people turned up.
Some protesters clashed with riot police on the steps up to the parliament building on Sunday, throwing rocks, flares, Molotov cocktails, paint and other objects.

[SO April 2014 article] British Air Ministry engineer William Godfray De Lisle came up with the concept of an integrally suppressed rifle while working at home in 1942. He created a prototype chambered in .22 caliber and based on a Browning semi-automatic rifle to hunt small animals for food. After much success, he realized the extreme quiet of the rifle might fulfill his intended role for it, after all... Killing men.
In early 1943, he informed Sir Malcolm Campbell, head of the secretive Combined Operations, of his invention, and Campbell suggested an interesting way to demonstrate it ‐ in the open with unsuspecting people around.
From the roof of a building overlooking the river Thames in London, De Lisle fired several shots into the water as people strode by on sidewalks. Campbell watched with interest to see if anyone heard the shots. None did. The weapon found a buyer right then. First, though, there needed to be improvements.
Combined Operations wanted a more potent caliber. Shunning rifle cartridges, a 9mm, the standard British and German pistol round, sounded right. De Lisle disagreed and suggested something larger: the U.S. .45 caliber pistol round. Denied, he created the 9mm version based on the standard Lee-Enfield bolt action. Subsequent testing showed reliability problems with the 9mm, and De Lisle, still insisting the .45 caliber the optimum choice, at last won over the officials and built the next version. This time, the tests went much better, and established the De Lisle carbine as one of the quietest firearms in history.
[DailyWire] On Tuesday, Egard Watch Company released an advertisement on YouTube in response to Gillette’s controversial ad regarding alleged "toxic masculinity."
The video features footage of men in various situations ‐ from fighting fires to hugging their children ‐ while the company’s founder, Ilan Srulovicz, narrates. The footage and narration are accompanied by sobering statistics relating to men.
"What is a man?" Srulovicz asks as a fireman carries a child from a burning building. "Is a man brave?" The on-screen text reads: "Men account for 93% of workplace fatalities." The number comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
"Is a man a hero? Is a man a protector? Is a man vulnerable? Is a man disposable? Is a man broken? Is a man trying?"
As each of the above questions are asked, the following statistics are shown on the screen: Site linked. You can even design your own watch!

Going with actual statistics as opposed to vacuous anecdotes and stereotypes is brilliant. The commercial will be deeply despised by the usual suspects for that reason alone.

64:1 likes vs. dislikes speaks to the percentage of people on this planet who go along with the toxic masculinity thing. Interesting how such a tiny fraction of the population can be presented with such force. I wonder who enables this.
