Kabul: Armed Men Target MP's Vehicle, Three Guards Wounded
[ToloNews] Armed robbers driving a police vehicle on Friday night attacked the convoy of Afghan politician Amir Mohammad Khaksar in Pul-e-Surkh area in the west of Kabul in which three of his guards were maimed.

Eyewitnesses said that one of the robbers was killed in the incident.

The robbers managed to seize a vehicle and a weapon from the MP’s convoy.

"The robbers came and opened the car’s door. I was standing in front of the car. They opened fire and hit near my feet. I ran, then they opened fire on other persons," said an eyewitness.

Khaksar was not in the car when the shooting occurred.

"Eyewitnesses were there. They told that a ranger came and stood in front of my guards and maimed three of them," said Khaksar.

Kabul residents said police have failed to ensure people's safety.

"Security situation in Kabul has tanked," said Abdul Sattar, a Kabul resident.

Interior Ministry refrained to provide details about how the armed robbers were driving a police vehicle.

"Our intelligence agencies are working hardly," said Tariq Arian, a front man for the Ministry of Interior.

Alongside crime cases, Kabul has also witnessed seven explosions over the last week in which four people were killed.

Day 2: Turkish Nationals among 4 Dead in Somalia Bombing
Follow up on this story from yesterday.
[AnNahar] Two Ottoman Turkish nationals were among four people killed Saturday in a suicide kaboom outside the Somali capital Mogadishu claimed by the al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
krazed killer group, officials said.

Ottoman Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said 14 others maimed in the blast, including three Turks, were being treated at a Ottoman Turkish-run hospital in Mogadishu.

The attack targeted employees of a Ottoman Turkish company building a road between Mogadishu and Afgoye, a town about 25 kilometres (15 miles) west of the capital, officials from both countries said.

"The number of our nationals who bit the dust in the terror attack in Somalia has increased to two," Koca said, adding the lives of the maimed Turks were not in danger.

The two others killed in the assault were Somali special police, said Mohammed Ibrahim, a police officer in Afgoye.

He said security forces opened fire as the bomber tried to force his way into a construction site where work was underway.

"Unfortunately, he was already close to where people were gathered and detonated, inflicting casualties," he said.

Al-Shabaab, the al-Qaeda-linked jihadist group waging a deadly insurgency against the foreign-backed government in Mogadishu, grabbed credit for the attack.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

In June, two people were killed when a jacket wallah targeted a Ottoman Turkish military training base in Mogadishu.

The bomber tried to conceal himself among young recruits who had gathered to enlist in the academy, which opened in 2017 and is among the largest foreign-run military centre in Somalia.

According to the Ottoman Turkish foreign ministry website, the country's largest embassy complex abroad is in Mogadishu and investments in the country total $100 million (88 million euros).

Ottoman Turkish companies also run the Mogadishu international airport and seaport.

Ankara also offers Somalia humanitarian assistance and scholarships, and earlier this year sent planeloads of medical equipment to help the country deal with the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)

Roadside bombing in Egypt’s Sinai kills 2 police

-led insurgency near Israel’s southern border.

A roadside kaboom went off Friday in Egypt’s northern Sinai Peninsula, killing two members of the country’s security forces and wounding five, security and medical officials said.

According to the officials, the security forces were patrolling in the town of Bir al-Abd when their armored vehicle was hit by a remotely-detonated bomb. The maimed were transferred to a military hospital in Sinai’s coastal city of El-Arish. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the attacks with the media.

Friday’s bombing was the second in the past three days. On Wednesday, one member of the security forces was killed and three were maimed in a roadside kabooming in a village near Rafah, a town on the border with the Gazoo

There was no clear claim of responsibility for Friday’s attack, but the Islamic State group posted a statement on Friday, saying it was behind Wednesday’s bombing and three other recent attacks. The claims could not be independently verified.

In February 2018, the Egyptian military launched a massive operation in Sinai and also in parts of the Nile Delta region and the desert along the country’s western border with Libya. Since then, the pace of IS attacks has diminished.

Mali: Targeted attack kills two French soldiers
[DW] The attack came just days after three French soldiers were killed in Mali by the al-Qaeda-linked Group to Support Islam and Moslems (GSIM).

Two French soldiers were killed in northwestern Mali when their vehicle hit an improvised bomb on Saturday, according to the French presidency. A similar attack on French troops based in Mali killed three troops just days earlier.
That’d be the New Year’s Eve attack somewhere in the Hombori region.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed grief over the deaths of Sergeant Yvonne Huynh and Brigadier Loic Risser in the Menaka region, his office said in a statement. Another soldier was maimed in the blast, it added.

Huynh, 33, was the first female soldier sent to the Sahel region

since the French operation against Islamists began there in 2013.

Both Huynh and Risser were members of a regiment specializing in intelligence work.

"Their vehicle hit an improvised bomb during an intelligence mission," the French presidency said of Saturday's incident.

The al-Qaeda-linked Group to Support Islam and Moslems (GSIM)
...in Arabic Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Moslemin (JNIM), the regional umbrella affiliated with Al Qaeda in North Africa...
had grabbed credit for an earlier attack that killed three French soldiers in central Mali.

The group, the main jihadist alliance in the Sahel, says the main reasons for its continued attacks on French troops is La Belle France's military presence in the region as well as the publication of Prophet Mohammad's by a French newspaper and Macron's defense of them in the name of freedom of expression.

President Macron has affirmed La Belle France's determination to continue its role in "the battle against terrorism."

Last month, La Belle France said its forces killed Bah ag Moussa, a leader of al-Qaeda's North Africa wing, during an operation in northeastern Mali.

In November, French forces killed 50 Death Eaters linked to al-Qaeda central Mali.

Niger: Dozens of civilians killed in militant attack
[DW] Niger's government says button men have killed more than 50 people in a suspected terror attack near the border with Mali. The onslaught comes amid election uncertainty.

Suspected snuffies stormed two villages in western Niger late Saturday, killing at least 56 civilians and wounding 20 others, Interior Minister Alkache Alhada said.

The suspected terror attack took place in the villages of Tchombangou and Zaroumdareye, near the border with Mali, Alhada said.

Security sources cited by Rooters news agency said as many as 70 civilians had been killed.

PARTIAL ELECTION RESULTS
It comes as the West African country counts the results of an election held last week.

A partial tally of ballots announced on Saturday put the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism in the lead but a runoff poll in February will be required after the country's ruling party candidate failed to secure enough votes in the first round.

Ruling party candidate Mohammed Bazoum secured 39.6% of the vote, while ppposition candidate Mahamane Ousmane won 16.9%. Ousmane was Niger's first democratically elected president until he was ousted in a coup in 1996. Bazoum is an ally of President Mahamadou Issoufou, who is stepping down after two terms.

5 women killed as blast hits Yemen wedding hall
[AlAhram] The government and Huthi rebel forces blamed each other for the Friday night bombing of the hall near Hodeida's airport, a frontline between the warring sides on the edge of the Huthi-held town

Five women were killed in war-torn Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
when a projectile went kaboom! at a wedding held on New Year's Day in the Red Sea port city of Hodeida, officials said Saturday.

It came just two days after at least 26 people were killed in blasts that rocked the airport of the southern city of Aden as government ministers got off a plane.

General Sadek Douid, the government representative in a UN-sponsored joint commission overseeing a truce, condemned the Hodeida blast, which also left seven maimed, as "an odious crime committed by the Huthis against civilians".

Hodeida's Huthi-appointed governor, Mohammed Ayache, said on al-Masirah television, which is run by the Shiite Moslem rebels, that "the forces of aggression never hesitate to blame others for their crimes".

Saudi-backed government forces launched an offensive in June 2018 to retake Hodeida, the main entry point for humanitarian aid to poverty-stricken Yemen.

But a ceasefire has been partially observed since December of the same year.

Armenian Churches Under Attack at the Hands of Azerbaijan and Turkey
[JihadWatch] While many historic churches across Turkey are systematically used for sacrilegious purposes, churches in the Azerbaijani occupied-Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh in the South Caucuses) are bombed. Their statues, bell towers and other symbols are destroyed, bulldozed or vandalized by Azerbaijani forces.

Churches and other elements of Armenian cultural heritage in the parts of Artsakh that are now occupied by Azerbaijan have been attacked by Muslim Azeris. The Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in Shushi, also known as Holy Savior Cathedral, for instance, was severely damaged from two air raids conducted by the Azerbaijani military on October 8. Videos of the destruction reveal extensive external and internal ruin. This includes broken pews, scattered rubble and a partially collapsed ceiling, reported the Armenian Weekly.

From September 27 to November 10, Azerbaijan targeted Armenians in the Armenian Republic of Artsakh throughout its invasion campaign of the region with the support of Turkey and Al-Qaeda-affiliated fighters imported from Syria.

Through a deal brokered by Russia and imposed on Armenia on November 9, parts of Artsakh were granted to Azerbaijan. War crimes committed by the Azerbaijani government during that period – such as indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas, beheadings of civilians and prisoners of war, and the destruction of Armenian graves – are widely documented.

Philadelphia: Black Bloc Protestors Arrested With Molotov Cocktails After Vandalizing Federal Buildings
[AyPee] A group of people dressed in black vandalized at least two federal buildings in downtown Philadelphia on New Year’s Eve, and police said they recovered Molotov cocktails and other suspicious devices as they arrested seven of them, authorities said Friday.

Officers spotted about 50 people, all in black, around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the historic U.S. Customs House, police said.

And a 25-year-old man was seen throwing a brick through the windows of a federal building and courthouse shortly before 9 p.m., police said. He fled with a 24-year-old man and two 23-year-old women, all of whom were arrested.

Damage to the building was estimated at about $3,000. Anti-police and anti-prison graffiti were scrawled on walls, a sheriff’s van was defaced and several windows were broken.

Three other people were also arrested in the area, a 25-year-old man and two women ages 22 and 26. Police said the man was carrying a glass jar with a fuse that had "a strong flammable odor," as well as a plastic container with white powder labeled "Fire Starter."

The younger woman had bottles with liquids that had "a chemical smell," they said.

Chief Inspector Mike Cram earlier told news hounds that officers recovered what he called "numerous Molotov cocktails and some other devices which haven’t been identified."

(ISIS) in the central province of Kirsehir on Thursday night, state media reported on Friday.

Counter-terrorism units in Kirsehir city carried out simultaneous raids against 26 suspects at 32 addresses and arrested 24 people. They are searching for the two remaining suspects, according to Anadolu Agency.

ISIS-related documents and materials were confiscated in the raids.

Ottoman Turkish security forces have carried out several large-scale arrests of foreign ISIS suspects recently. On November 13, they arrested eight Iraqis in the Black Sea province of Samsun. On Monday, forces in Kayseri province arrested seven Syrians allegedly involved in armed ISIS activities in Syria's Azaz town between 2011 and 2015.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
has not disclosed the ethnicity of the Iraqis arrested and there have been no comments from the Iraqi government.

Turkey is a member of the multinational Global Coalition against ISIS (ISIS), formed when ISIS took control of swathes of Syrian and Iraqi territory in 2014. Though Ankara has undertaken domestic operations against the bad boy group, its efforts beyond its borders have been limited. A 2016-2017 Ottoman Turkish military campaign in northern Syria, dubbed operation Euphrates Shield, aimed to push ISIS fighters away from the border and halt the advance of Kurdish forces. Ankara has conducted two other military operations against Kurdish forces in Syria, in 2018 and 2019.

Ankara has been accused of providing financial and military support for ISIS, a charge it has denied.

LeT leader Lakhvi arrested from Lahore on terrorism financing charge: CTD
[Dawn] The Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday arrested Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi
...an asset of the Pak govt and a big turban in Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is actually a redundant statement. Zak was the criminal mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai attack. Despite what India's provided there is not enough evidence in this world for a Pak court to convict him or even to keep him in the calaboose for very long...
, leader of proscribed organization Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT), in an intelligence-based operation from Lahore, a spokesperson for the CTD said in a statement.

Lakhvi was running a medical dispensary to collect and disburse funds for financing terrorism, it added.
That seems an awfully plebeian occupation for a jihadi org. Number 1.
"He & others also collected funds from this dispensary and used these funds for further terrorism financing. He also used these funds for personal expenses," the statement read.

A case of terrorism financing was registered against Lakhvi by the Punjab CTD at its Lahore station, it said, adding that his trial would be held before an anti-terrorism court in Lahore.

As leader of the banned bully boy group, Lakhvi is blamed by the United States and India for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

A UN Security Council sanctions committee says Lakhvi is LeT's chief of operations and accuses him of being involved in bully boy activity in a number of other regions and countries, including Chechnya, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Indian authorities said the lone surviving gunman in the 2008 Mumbai siege, in which 166 people were killed, had told interrogators before his execution that the assailants were in touch with Lakhvi.

India has long called on Pakistain to bring Lakhvi to trial, but Islamabad says Delhi has not provided concrete evidence to try the LeT leader. He was first arrested in 2008 but was later released on bail.

Imran Gill, Lakhvi's lawyer, confirmed the arrest and told Rooters his case would be heard next week. He did not respond to further questions.

Another man that India says was the criminal mastermind of the Mumbai siege, Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat. He is periodically placed under house arrest so it looks like the govt is doing something. Once the heat is off they let him go....
, was arrested after being convicted by an anti-terrorism court on two charges of terrorism financing last year. Saeed denies involvement in the Mumbai attacks.
The Times of Israel adds:
Lakhvi was a prominent figure in Hafiz Saeed’s charity Jamaat-ud-Dawa, which is believed to be a front for Lashker-e-Taiba.

Saeed, who has been designated a terrorist by the US Justice Department and has a $10 million bounty on his head, is presently serving multiple jail terms in Pakistan after being convicted in several cases in recent months. The Pakistani government has seized Saeed’s extensive network of mosques, schools, seminaries and charities and other assets in the country.

Iraq
Iraq dismantles mine stuck to oil tanker in Gulf
[IsraelTimes] Iraq’s military says explosives experts with its naval forces successfully dismantled a mine that was discovered stuck to an oil tanker in the Persian Gulf.

The statement says Iraqi authorities have opened an investigation into the incident. No group has grabbed credit for placing the mine.
"Domestically produced by the Houthis" rrriiggghhtt
The announcement came a day after Iraq confirmed reports by private security firms that a mine had been discovered attached to the side of a tanker rented from Iraq’s Oil Marketing Company, known as SOMO, as it was refueling another vessel. It said that Iraqi teams were working to dismantle the mine.

Iraq has not provided further details, but the two private security firms said the discovery was likely a limpet mine on the MT Pola, a Liberian-flagged tanker.

Two Kurdish security forces injured by IED planted under ISIS flag in Said Sadiq
[Rudaw] Two Kurdish security force members were maimed when an improvised bomb (IED) planted under a flag of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) group went kaboom! on Saturday, officials and eyewitnesses in the eastern Sulaimani province district of Said Sadiq confirmed to Rudaw.

The IED explosion occurred on a hill in the Said Sadiq district between the villages of Kani Spika and Bardarash.

The two Asayesh members injured were Sarkhel Sarawi and 47-year-old Atta Qadir, a bigwig in Said Sadiq told Rudaw.

Said Sadiq mayor Diyari Rafiq told Rudaw English he had been notified by local residents of the mine’s presence at 10 am.

"This is new for us and no one was expecting this... this can’t happen somewhere so close to the city," Rafiq said. "The security of the people is a red line".

Ismail Ibrahim, a 22-year-old from Bardarash, was out with a group of friends at the spot they frequently head to for picnics when they spotted the flag on the hill.

A few of them walked up to the flag and debated removing it, Ibrahim told Rudaw English, but decided against it. The friends rang the Asayesh, who advised them "not to go near it".

"We saw Asayesh guys arrive... then we spotted blue smoke," Ibrahim said.

In footage taken by Asayesh member Sarawi, Qadir can be seen removing the soil around the flag before the planted IED explodes.

ISIS took control of large parts of Iraq in 2014. Although the Iraqi government announced the territorial defeat of ISIS in December 2017, remnants of the group have returned to earlier insurgency tactics, ambushing security forces, kidnapping and executing suspected informants, extorting money from vulnerable rural populations, and IED attacks.

Remnants of the Islamic State in Iraq are most active in the northern provinces of Nineveh, Salahaddin and Diyala, as well as the western province of Anbar.

On Thursday, ISIS claimed in its weekly propaganda newspaper al-Naba that it had killed and injured at least seven people in Iraq in the previous week.

Russian Air Force swarms southern Idlib region
[AlMasdar] The Russian Aerospace Forces have been conducting non-stop reconnaissance missions across the southern and western regions of the Idlib Governorate, in response to the Death Eater attack that targeted their military police near the city of Saraqib last week.

According to reports from the nearby Hama Governroate, the Russian Aerospace Forces have been conducting reconnaissance flights with drones and spy planes, with the aircraft mostly concentrating on the Jabal al-Zawiya region of southern Idlib.

The reports specified that no Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s were carried out by the Russian Aerospace Forces; however, their response is likely imminent, especially as three of their military personnel were maimed as a result of a roadside attack outside the city of Saraqib.

While no organization has grabbed credit for the attack, a source from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) said it is believed that groups loyal to the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces were involved.

This coincides with what the Russian Reconciliation Center originally stated about "pro-Ottoman Turkish gangs" carrying out the attack against their military military personnel in the Idlib Governorate last week.

With the new year comes new problems with the Islamic State

in central and eastern Syria; however, the looming threat in the Idlib Governorate remains, as hardline Death Eater groups continue to wreak havoc in the Jabal al-Zawiya region.

Turkish forces come under attack in rural Aleppo
[AlMasdar] The Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces reportedly came under attack in the northeastern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate on Saturday, resulting in some casualties within their ranks.

According to opposition reports, the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces’ positions came under attack in the al-Bab District of Aleppo after snipers opened fire on their troops.

The reports said at least two Ottoman Turkish soldiers were maimed and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment; their current status is unknown.

In response to the attack, the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces and their allied snuffies launched several artillery shells and rockets toward the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the northern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate.

While no group has grabbed credit for the sniper attack, the Ottoman Turkish Armed Forces and their allies have targeted the SDF and YPG in rural Aleppo.

Car bomb targets Russian base near Ain Issa: war monitor
[Rudaw] A boom-mobile went kaboom! outside a Russian base in northeastern Syria, south of Ain Issa on Friday, according to a conflict monitor and local media. An al-Qaeda-linked group has reportedly grabbed credit. The attack comes amid near-daily festivities in the area between Kurdish-led forces and Syrian militias backed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
Two men parked an explosive-laden vehicle outside the Russian base in the town of Tal al-Samen and fled before detonating the bomb, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported, adding that there were injuries among the Russian forces.

"It’s the first such direct attack against a Russian base in northeastern Syria," Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Observatory, told AFP.

Russia has not immediately commented on the incident.

A statement purportedly from the jihadist group Hurras al-Din, which has ties to al-Qaeda, circulated on social media and grabbed credit for the attack. Hurras al-Din is designated a terror organization by the United States and its activities are concentrated in Idlib.

Russian forces are present in northeastern Syria as part of a ceasefire agreement brokered last year that ended Turkey’s offensive against Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Russia recently deployed more forces to the area after deadly festivities between Ottoman Turkish-backed militias and the SDF.

Several killed, tens injured in separate blasts in northeast Syria
[Rudaw] A boom-mobileing in Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) in northern Syria's Hasaka province killed at least four people and injured many others on Saturday afternoon. Separately, two people were killed and 20 injured in a kaboom in Hasaka city.

Four people, including children, died in Sari Kani town when an car bomb blew up, reported North Press Agency (NPA).

Sari Kani came under control of Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian militias after a military offensive in October 2019. The border town, previously under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been rocked by many explosions in recent months.

According to the conflict monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, five people were killed, including children, and four others were maimed, some seriously.

In a separate incident, two people were killed, including a child, in a kaboom in Hasaka near Hikma hospital, reported the SDF-affiliated Hawar News Agency (ANHA). The blast was caused by a grenade thrown by an unknown person and at least 20 people were maimed, according to Syrian state media SANA.

"I was in my shop tidying up when I heard the sound of bullets. They were chasing a person from the National Defense, I saw him throw a bomb," Izzedeen Mustafa, one of the injured in Hasaka told Rudaw’s Vivian Fatah on Saturday.
