Nabil unveils Hamid Gilani’s links with the Haqqani terrorist network
[Khaama Press] The former Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil unveiled the links between Syed Hamid Gilani and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network as Gilani’s recent remarks about Taliban
...Arabic for students...
group has sparked furor among the officials and the Afghan people.

In an online statement, Nabil said Tuesday that Gilani has repeatedly transported a notorious leader of the Haqqani network in his personal car from Islamabad to Kabul in a bid to organize meeting with the detained Haqqani leader Anas Haqqani.

Nabil further added that the government is well aware that the deadly attacks in Kabul are being carried out by the Haqqani network but are claimed by ISIS group.

Nabil also added that efforts are underway by certain individuals for the release of Anas Haqqani but did not elaborate further regarding the efforts.

Gilani on Saturday claimed that all the members of the leadership council of the Taliban are based in Afghanistan.

He also went on to claim that the Taliban leaders are prepared to participate in peace talks with the Afghan government and that his party will form a delegation with the Ulema Council members to start peace efforts.

However,

the Afghan intelligence, National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), in a statement said Monday that it condemns the recent remarks by Gilani regarding the Taliban group leadership.

The statement further added that the Taliban group leadership council members are all based on the other side of the Durand Line and in key cities of Pakistain.

NDS in statement also added that the international community also has a well understanding regarding the issue regarding the Taliban safe havens in Pakistain.

Egypt court sentences 268 people to prison on violence charges in 2013 Nahda sit-in case
[AlAhram] A Giza criminal court sentenced on Tuesday 23 people to life in prison, 223 others to 15 years, 22 to three years, and acquitted 109 on various violent offences committed during the 2013 dispersal of a sit-in in Giza’s Nahda Square in 2013.

In April 2015 the prosecution referred 379 supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi to court over their participation in the Nahda sit-in in July 2013.

The Nahda protest, which took place in Giza near Cairo University, was one of two major sit-ins ‐ the other was in Cairo’s Rabaa El-Adaweya ‐ calling for Morsi’s reinstatement.

The defendants were charged with murder, attempted murder of two coppers, rioting, terrorising people, forming an gang, thuggery, vandalising public property, and possession of weapons.

The court has also ordered the defendants to pay compensation for vandalism; EGP 25.788 million to the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University, EGP 2.902 million to Orman Park, EGP 10.9 million to Giza governorate, and EGP 137,000 to the Giza Zoo.

The verdict can be appealed before the Court of Cassation within 60 days.

Following the deadly dispersal of the sit-ins at Rabaa and Nahda on 14 August 2013, which left hundreds killed and thousands incarcerated

Egypt court sentences four members of Giza terrorist cell to death in 2014 case
[AlAhram] A Cairo criminal court issued a preliminary death sentence on Tuesday against four people convicted of forming a terrorist cell in Giza in a 2014 case.

The court, which has set a 19 February session to issue its final verdict, has referred the sentence to the Grand Mufti, the country’s top religious authority, whose opinion is legally required in death penalty
cases but is not binding.

The defendants were charged with forming a cell that aimed to carry out attacks on members of the judiciary, attacks on public and private property, and protesting without consent.

The February court session will include verdicts for all 30 defendants in the case, which will be subject to be appeal.

US oil output to hit record over 11M bpd by end of 2019, EIA
h/t Instapundit
U.S. crude oil production is expected to climb to more than 10 million barrels per day (bpd) early in 2018, reaching that milestone for the first time since 1970, and to continue to surge into 2019 to a record high, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said Tuesday.

Production was expected to hit 10.04 million bpd during the first quarter of this year, the agency said in a monthly report. The 10 million-bpd milestone previously had not been expected to be reached until the fourth quarter.

The EIA revised its production growth forecast for 2018 sharply higher to 970,000 bpd from 780,000 bpd in its previous outlook.

U.S. output will be at an all-time high in 2019, surpassing 11 million bpd by the end of that year, a new high for national output, the EIA said in the report. The average production in 2019 will rise 580,000 bpd to 10.85 million bpd, the agency said in its first outlook for next year.

#2  Theoretically, our production exceeds our consumption and so we are a net exporter...right now we are ahead of KSA as the largest exporter of oil in the world...and we keep driving down oil prices as we get better at wringing oil out of those shale and tar sand deposits. Hence, the mass purge of dilettantes in the KSA royalty as they are having trouble meeting their budget goals with current oil prices.

Germany protests to Iran for spying on targets with ties to Israel
[IsraelTimes] Iranian ambassador reprimanded after Revolutionary Guard agent convicted and sentenced for targeting pro-Israel official

The German government has protested to the Iranian ambassador in the country following the conviction of an Iranian agent for spying on targets including a former German politician who headed a German-Israeli friendship group.

The Pak man was convicted in Berlin last year of espionage and sentenced to more than four years in prison. His targets included Reinhold Robbe, who headed the German-Israeli Association, and a French-Israeli economics professor.

Iranian Ambassador Ali Majedi was summoned to the Foreign Ministry just before Christmas. After German media reported on the meeting, the ministry said Tuesday he was told that "spying on people and institutions with a particular relationship to the State of Israel on German soil is a blatant violation of German law."

The ambassador was told that such activities would not be tolerated.

In March 2017, 31-year-old Mustufa Haidar Syed-Naqfi was sentenced to four years and three months in prison "for working for a foreign intelligence service."

German media reported during the trial that local security agencies believe Robbe was being eyed by Tehran as a possible liquidation target in retaliation for an Israeli operation against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The court found he spied "against Germany and another NATO

member," La Belle France, for the al-Quds Force, the foreign operations wing of the elite Revolutionary Guards.

Syed-Naqfi compiled dossiers on possible attack targets with ties to Israel. Investigators found detailed files on the men and their daily routines, with hundreds of photos and video clips.

The court heard they detailed the targets’ homes and work places, various access routes to them, as well as information on security guards, surveillance cameras and nearby cop shoppes.

The service suspected the al-Quds Force was preparing for a possible future conflict with the United States and Israel, when it would hit targets in Europe

The defendant traveled to Iran at least twice, in October 2015 and February 2016, and received at least 2,052 euros ($2,237) for his intelligence activities.

German court halts deportation of Turk convicted of Islamist support
[Ynet] Germany's highest court on Tuesday halted the deportation of a Ottoman Turkish citizen convicted of supporting an Islamist Death Eater organization, saying authorities should first ensure he wouldn't face torture or inhumane prison conditions in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The Federal Constitutional Court overturned a ruling by a lower court that ordered the deportation of the man, who was born and raised in Germany, after he was convicted of travelling to Syria and supporting a "terrorist organization."

Nearly a thousand people are believed to have left Germany to fight with Islamist Death Eaters. Some are now returning as the jihadist group's presence in the Middle East crumbles.

Canada: Trudeau's Support for Islamists a Warning to America
An appetizer:
[GatestoneInstitute] Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada has an nine-year long record of supporting the Islamist cause while refusing to engage with reformist Muslims.

Perhaps most disturbing were Trudeau's comments to a gathering of Islamist front groups: he told them that he shared their beliefs, their set of values and their shared vision.

Canada will not be able to plead ignorance or inability while facing accusations of complicity from any future American terrorist victims.

DHS OIG Finds ICE's Screening Protocol of Aliens Who May Be Known or Suspected Terrorists is Limited and Risks National Security
[Office of the Inspector General - Homeland Security] A new report by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) finds that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues to face significant challenges with its screening of aliens who may have ties to terrorism. Auditors warn ICE may have missed opportunities to identify, apprehend, and adjudicate the status of aliens posing the highest risk to public safety and national security.

The report, "ICE Faces Challenges to Screen Aliens Who May Be Known or Suspected Terrorists (REDACTED)," concluded that ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) faces significant limitations in implementing its Known or Suspected Terrorist Encounter Protocol (KSTEP). ICE established KSTEP to streamline the screening protocol of all aliens and to coordinate and exchange information with other law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Despite its implementation, the agency’s KSTEP policy fails to require continued screening of the majority of nearly 2.4 million aliens no longer in ICE custody but under ICE supervision.
Continues.

The prediction came in a 97-page annual report to Congress that read: "China most likely will seek to establish additional military bases in countries with which it has a longstanding friendly relationship and similar strategic interests, such as Pakistain." China had categorically denied the report at the time.

More Mosul Moslem Mayhem: another mass grave found

Relics of 20 tortured women, executed by IS, found in mass grave in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A mass grave with relics of tortured women was found in west of Mosul city, Nineveh, a police source was quoted saying on Monday.

“Relics of 20 women were found inside a mass grave while removing debris in western Mosul,” Col. Omar al-Hajjar told DPA.

The victims, according to Hajjar, “were executed by Islamic State as they were trying to escape toward the eastern side of the city during the liberation offensives last year.”

“Security troops recovered all the bodies along with their identity cards. They were transferred to forensic medicine department in Mosul to extradite them to their relatives,” he added.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria.

Last week, MP Farah al-Siraj said 4,000 bodies are still under the debris in the Old City of Mosul.

Nineveh province denies concluding 50 percent of reconstruction in western Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Nineveh provincial council has denied finishing 50 percent of the rehabilitation works in the western side of Mosul, saying that reconstruction had not started yet, but just removal of the rubble.

In remarks on Tuesday, Mohamed Ibrahim, member of the council, said, “talks about reconstructing 50 percent the western flank of the city are totally untrue.”

“Only 40 percent of electricity distribution and water networks are rehabilitated in western Mosul, in addition to opening of some schools,” he added. “The reconstruction works have not started yet, but only removal of debris.”

Ibrahim noted that “the reconstruction of Mosul requires a lot of money as well as long time.”

On Monday, Federal Police Chief Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat said police forces finished 50 percent of their works to rehabilitate war-scarred areas of western Mosul. Refugees have been repatriated from camps to their living areas in addition to reopening of schools and bridges.
