"Six Taliban were also killed in the clash," he said.

Later, at least four security force members were killed and three more were maimed in a car kaboom on a security outpost in the city of Tarin Kot in Uruzgan province in the early hours of Wednesday morning, provincial governor Mohammad Omar Shirzad said.
Uruzgan Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad told media in a video clip, that Taliban

He added, that fresh troops were deployed to the region for assistance and backup and currently the area is under the control of the Afghan government forces.

Africa North
Mozambique: Terrorist Hostages Released
January 14, 2021
[AllAfrica] Maputo — A group of 21 people (15 women and six children), kidnapped by the islamist Lions of Islam operating in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado can now return to their homes on Matemo island, after being rescued by the defence and security forces.

According to a report in Thursday's issue of the independent newsheet "Carta de Mocambique", they were captured during a terrorist attack against Matemo on 6 January.

Their captors used them to transport goods looted from the local populations, and took them to Macomia district on the mainland.

One of the rescued women, Maisha Ambasse, said "there were about 30 Lions of Islam who took us from Matemo to Olumboa (a village on the mainland). When we got there, they said they were going to take us to Mocimboa da Praia, to study in a madrassa (a Koranic school)".

But before that could happen, a government helicopter arrived to rescue the hostages. "We're thankful that the helicopter saved us", said Ambasse. "Otherwise by now we would be in Mocimboa da Praia".

The General Commander of the Mozambican police, Bernadino Rafael, said the defence forces knew where the Lions of Islam were, and launched what he called a "smart attack" to rescue the hostages

He said the government forces used aircraft to follow the Lions of Islam and their hostages until they were about five kilometres from Macomia town. They then launched the attack which culminated in the release of the hostages,

"They can return to their community in Matemo which is now free from any terrorist presence", said Rafael.

IED kills four Tunisian soldiers in mountain region
[AlAhram] Tunisia faces a small but persistent murderous Moslem threat, foreign diplomats focused on security say

An improvised bomb killed four Tunisian soldiers patrolling in a mountain region near the Algerian border, Defence Ministry front man Mohammed Zekri said on Wednesday.

The mountainous Moghila area, near the impoverished city of Kasserine, is home to an Islamist murderous Moslem group that the Tunisian army has been fighting for years.

Tunisia faces a small but persistent murderous Moslem threat, foreign diplomats focused on security say.

As well as jihadist cells holed up in remote mountain regions, who have not made successful forays beyond their strongholds in recent years, there is also a threat from bandidos holy warriors radicalised online.

Last year bandidos holy warriors tried to attack the U.S. embassy in Tunis, killing a policeman at a security point with a boom jacket, and months later stabbed two security officers in a knife attack in the city of Sousse.

In October, a young Tunisian migrant arrived in La Belle France and immediately killed three people in a church.

The Grand Turk
Rights Group Slams Turkey's 'Illegal' Transfer of Syria Detainees
[AnNahar] Human Rights Watch Wednesday condemned the "illegal transfers" to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
of more than 60 Syrians arrested by Ankara and its local proxies in Syria's northeast in 2019.

Turkey and its Syrian rebel proxies arrested the 63 Syrians between October and December 2019 in the border area of Ras al-Ain in Syria's northeast, after seizing the region from Kurdish fighters, the rights group said.

The men, Arabs and Kurds, are being held over their alleged links to Kurdish groups viewed by Ankara as "terrorists", according to HRW.

They have been charged with "undermining the unity and territorial integrity of the state, membership in a terrorist organization, and murder", the rights group added.

"Not only have these Syrians been illegally transferred to Turkey for abusive prosecutions, but in an extraordinarily cruel move, the courts have imposed the highest sentence possible in Turkey —- life without parole" -- on at least five of them, said Michael Page, HRW's deputy regional director.

Turkey and its Syrian proxies seized control of Ras al-Ain during an October 2019 offensive that saw it wrest a 120-kilometre (70-mile) long strip of land from Kurdish forces on the Syrian side of its southern border.

Ottoman Turkish authorities have not produced evidence that the detainees committed crimes or were active fighters with Kurdish groups, HRW said.

"Ottoman Turkish authorities, as an occupying power, are required to respect people's rights under the law of occupation in northeastern Syria, including the prohibition on arbitrary detention and on the transfer of people to their territory," Page said.

"Instead, they are violating their obligations by arresting these Syrian men and carting them off to Turkey to face the most dubious and vaguest of charges connected to alleged activity in Syria."

While HRW said it could only confirm 63 transfers, it said available evidence suggests the number of Syrians taken to Turkey could be almost 200.

The alleged arrests and transfers are only the latest violations Turkey and its Syrian rebel proxies are accused of carrying out in areas under their control.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet warned last year of growing violence and criminality in areas captured by Turkey and its Syrian proxies, including in Ras al-Ain.

Her office has reported a pattern of violations in recent months, including increased killings, kidnappings, and seizures of land and properties.

Those who are critical of Turkey and its gangs bear the brunt of these violations, the UN said.

Iraq
Kop's home hit by small arms attack
[NRTtv] SULAIMANI — Unidentified gunman opened fire at a house belonging to an emergency and defense police officer in Sulaimani’s Baranan neighborhood on Wednesday evening (February 3), before then beating him and members of his family.

The police officer, Sheikhal Ibrahim, told NRT that earlier in the evening a Cadillac with tinted-windows and an Erbil license plate cut him off on the road, sparking an argument between him and the other driver.

After Ibrahim returned home, the driver with whom he had argued arrived with several other men, who opened fire on his home. No one was hurt by the gunfire, but the gunmen proceeded to beat Ibrahim and members of his family who were present at the time.

Ibrahim said that he does not know who the armed men were and that he has no problems with anyone.

He called on Patriotic Union of Kurdistan co-Presidents Lahur Sheikh Jangi and Bafel Talabani to intervene to resolve the issue.

“Indeed, it is a very weird and ugly phenomenon,” he told NRT.

“If anybody has a problem with me, let’s take it to the courts, file a suit against me, but don’t get off and open fire at me like that,” he added.

Gun violence is on the rise in the Kurdistan Region.

On January 15, four men shot up three restaurants in Erbil city after they were told that they no longer had any sarupe (pacha) left for service. Five days after that, a gunman shot seven bullets at a barbershop in Koya district.

In February 2019, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Interior Ministry gave gun owners six months to register their unregistered or illegal small firearms and give up heavy and medium weapons, but many residents did not.

Turkish warbirds pound Kurd Kommies in Sulaimani province
[Rudaw] ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Turkish airstrikes hit a village in the Pishdar district of Sulaimani province on Tuesday, causing material damage but no casualties, Pishdar’s mayor has told Rudaw.

"The Turkish warplanes bombed a location in the village of Shene near the [Iranian] border," mayor Bakir Bayiz told Rudaw on Tuesday afternoon.

"Fortunately, the bombing did not result in any casualties," Bayiz said. "Only a small number of households were damaged."

Shortly after the attack, Turkey’s defense ministry said it had “neutralized” 10 Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters in the Qandil region of “the north of Iraq”.

Bakir Waisi, another local administrative official, said that the bombing by "Turkish warplanes” has "sparked fear among the villagers, and people have taken shelter in their houses."

The PKK – which Turkey regards as a terrorist organization - is a Kurdish armed group that has fought the Turkish state for increased rights for the country’s Kurdish minority. Its headquarters are in the Kurdistan Region's Qandil mountains.

Turkey launched a large-scale air and ground operation in the Kurdistan Region and in Iraq’s disputed territories in mid-June said to target the PKK. At least eight civilians were killed in the airstrikes.

The ground operation was “successfully completed” in September but the air campaign continues.

Turkey bombed at least three areas in the Kurdistan Region on January 22, injuring two children and killing hundreds of sheep.

group jihadists killed 19 Syrian regime personnel and allied militia fighters in the central province of Hama on Wednesday, a Britannia-based war monitor said.

"Nineteen regime fighters and allied militia forces were killed in an IS attack, including 11 members of the Baqir Brigade," a local Iran-backed militia, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The war monitor said the "surprise attack" on Wednesday morning targeted regime positions in eastern Hama, the site of recent festivities between regime forces and jihadists.

Observatory head Rami Abdul Rahman called it the deadliest IS attack this year.

IS overran large parts of Syria and Iraq and proclaimed a cross-border "caliphate" in 2014, before multiple offensives in the two countries led to its territorial defeat.

The group lost its last scrap of territory in Syria in March 2019, but in recent months it has ramped up attacks against regime forces, especially in the east of the country bordering Iraq.

In December last year, IS killed nearly 40 Syrian troops in an ambush of a bus carrying soldiers travelling home for the holidays.

According to the Observatory, IS attacks have killed more than 1,200 regime fighters and allied militia forces since March 2019.

The war in Syria has killed more than 387,000 people since it started in 2011, the Observatory says.
