The Man Who Would Become President
[Free Beacon] Lawyer Michael Avenatti's co-conspirator in his alleged attempt to extort more than $20 million from Nike is CNN contributor and Democratic donor Mark Geragos, a lawyer who has gained celebrity for defending the likes of pop star Michael Jackson for child molestation, actor Jussie Smolett when he claimed to be victim in a hate crime, and Chris Brown for assault.
Geragos was unnamed in the criminal complaint released Monday by federal prosecutors, but was with Avenatti during his March 19 New York City meeting with Nike, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Geragos is perhaps best known for his legal commentary on CNN, but he has also been a consistent donor for Democratic candidates.
He contributed over $5,000 to now-Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris when she was running to be reelected attorney general of California. He has also given money to Democrats such as House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff (Calif.), presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii), and Sen. Chris Coons (Del.).
Geragos was not arrested by authorities on Monday, but was present at the meeting that sparked the investigation, according to the Wall Street Journal report.
[DailyCaller] One of fastest shrinking ice glaciers in the world is reversing course and starting to accumulate ice at an alarming pace, a new NASA study published Monday finds. Woman and minorities hardest hit
The Jakobshavn glacier, located in Greenland, began thinning around 2012 to nearly 130 feet annually. It's been growing again at about the same rate for the past two years, a study in Nature Geoscience noted. Scientists reacted with surprise, noting that they grew accustomed to the glacier receding.
"That was kind of a surprise. We kind of got used to a runaway system," Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland ice and climate scientist Jason Box told AP reporters Monday. "The good news is that it's a reminder that it's not necessarily going that fast. But it is going." It was a surprise because you don't know as much as you think you do.
Jakobshavn is "arguably the most important Greenland glacier because it discharges the most ice in the northern hemisphere. For all of Greenland, it is king," said Box, who was not part of the study. The lead authors of the Nature Geoscience study claimed the natural cyclical cooling of North Atlantic waters was likely the catalyst for the reversal. They also say the phenomena is probably temporary. On a geologic scale, it is all temporary.
This is ultimately bad news on the long-term because it suggests ocean temperature is a bigger player in glacier retreats than previously thought, NASA climate scientist Josh Willis told reporters. Throughout the next several years water will be warming from climate change, he noted, adding that more than 90 percent of the heat greenhouse gasses trap folds into the ocean.
The study comes on the heels of research in 2017 showing that some of the largest non-polar glaciers in the world are either stable or growing due to a "vortex" of cold air over a 1,200-mile section of the greater Asia. Climate models have been unable to reproduce the phenomenon, an August 2017 study published in Nature revealed. The system is keeping Karakoram mountain range glaciers from melting.
Still many scientists and activists have sounded the alarm on Antarctic ice melt. A recent assessment of Antarctic data found that ice melt had dramatically increased in recent years, but critics said that work did not take into account modeling errors of the movement of the Earth beneath the ice sheets. Or maybe the sun has a bigger chunk of the "Global climate change" than you care to admit? Earth getting colder as the sun slows down its activity? Nah... where is the graft in that?

Past Two years it has been growing? I give Trump full credit and I think it is due to the Oil and Shale boom in America. Wow! It feels great to be a environmental scientist.

Ice Glacier; what other kind is there?
Well, glacier implies ice. At various times (maybe never here on Earth) it might have been frozen methane or something...

With all the good news so far this week (Mueller witch hunt finally fizzling out, Obamacare on the ropes, Green New deal dying), my glacier's growing, if ya know what I mean...
This must be a harbinger of something important. "Yuengling holds a special spot in my heart," said Aaron Nola. "I had my first Yuengling Lager after being drafted by Philadelphia and I haven’t looked back. The fact that America’s Oldest Brewery is family owned and operated is important to me as I value family over everything. I love cracking open a cold Yuengling whether it’s a day fishing with my dad and brother back in Louisiana or after a big game."

I just like that a guy from Louisiana is named Nola. Too tired to look up whether that's Sicilian or Spanish or what... Holy crap, SteveS, I just now noticed your title on the second pass. Guess I am tired. Awestruck!

[News10] The flight on Monday seemed to go perfectly well, until passengers realized that their plane had landed in both the wrong city and the wrong country.
The British Airways flight from London City Airport was supposed to head to Duesseldorf, Germany, but ended up in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.
The airline said Monday the problem started when an incorrect flight plan was filed by WDL Aviation, which operated the flight on behalf of British Airways. Officials say the pilot followed the flight plan for Edinburgh, and that air traffic control officials also were following the same flight plan and saw nothing amiss.
WDL aviation said it was trying to determine the cause of the "obviously unfortunate mix-up."
The flight was refueled and set off again, this time directly to Duesseldorf.
[BBC] The Mexican president has sent a letter to Spain's King Felipe VI and Pope Francis urging them to apologise for human rights abuses committed during the conquest of the region.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador said the indigenous peoples of Mexico had been the victims of massacres.
Speaking in the ruins of an ancient Mexican city, he called for a full account of the abuses.
Spain rejected the call and called for a "constructive perspective" instead.
'Brother nations'
Mr López Obrador was unsparing in his criticism of both Spain and the Vatican, saying: "The time has come to reconcile. But let us ask forgiveness first."

Got to remember that the army Cortez lead in the siege of Tenochtitlan was largely composed of native tribes throwing off the yoke of Aztec oppression. Sort of rips a the heart of the faux victimhood.
BTW, quit dumping your indios y mestizos upon us in order to retain the power of the purer Spanish blood overlords that own and operate Mexico.

Why? Everybody benefited from the destruction of the Aztecs. I would rather be ruled by the fractured, civil-war ridden "state" of Mexico, or even Syria, than people who quite literally spent their years conquering their neighbors and offering ten or hundreds of thousands of human sacrifices at a time.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Two Russian air force planes landed at Venezuela’s main airport on Saturday carrying a Russian defense official and nearly 100 troops, according to media reports, amid strengthening ties between Caracas and Moscow.
A flight-tracking website showed that two planes left from a Russian military airport bound for Caracas on Friday, and another flight-tracking site showed that one plane left Caracas on Sunday.
That comes three months after the two nations held military exercises on Venezuelan soil that President Nicolas Maduro Venezuela's attempt at producing a Muammar Qadaffy... called a sign of strengthening relations, but which Washington criticized as Russian encroachment in the region.
Reporter Javier Mayorca wrote on Twitter on Saturday that the first plane carried Vasily Tonkoshkurov, chief of staff of the ground forces, adding the second was a cargo plane carrying 35 tonnes of material.
An Ilyushin IL-62 passenger jet and an Antonov AN-124 military cargo plane left for Caracas on Friday from Russian military airport Chkalovsky, stopping along the way in Syria, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24.
The cargo plane left Caracas on Sunday afternoon, according to Adsbexchange, another flight-tracking site.
The flights carried officials who arrived to "exchange consultations," wrote Russian government-owned news agency Sputnik, which quoted an unnamed source at the Russian embassy.
"Russia has various contracts that are in the process of being fulfilled, contracts of a technical military character," Sputnik quoted the source as saying.
A Rooters witness saw what appeared to be the passenger jet at the Maiquetia airport on Sunday.
Venezuela’s Information Ministry did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Russia’s Defense Ministry and Foreign Ministry did not reply to messages seeking comment. The Kremlin front man also did not reply to a request for comment.

Bet Venezuelan gold bullion goes out on the empty plane... Russians can't throw money away like the Soviets did.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Venezuelan military has deployed more S-300 air defense missiles to a key airbase south of Caracas, the Image Sat International reported on Sunday.
According to Image Sat, the Venezuelan armed forces activated their S-300 missiles after completing their military drills in February.
Image Sat reveals through their satellite imagery the additional S-300 missiles that have been deployed to the Captain Manuel Rios Airbase in the Guarico state of Venezuela:

So now there's plausible deniability to the idea that the newly arrived Russians will not be manning these systems.
#4
What is the deal with setting these S-300 systems up everywhere? The modern system is the S-400, right? I would expect that if the US did decide to intervene, these old systems would essentially just be target practice for F-35s or B-2s, unless the US is dumb enough to throw our old A-10s or F-15s directly at missiles defense sites.
#5
The S-300 only really came online in 2007 for the Russian Federation. Which means only now is it being sold and set up in other countries in large numbers. The S-400 will be sold in larger numbers over the next decade most likely.
So far the S-300 has not performed very well in Syria and sales have dipped in response. Suddenly countries that bought the S-300 are getting an influx of Russian "advisers" for the systems. Putin has to try to support the customers and have the S-300 perform better. Putin needs the hard cash.
#6
I'm guessing this is for local consumption, and deterrent against their own air force/helicopter pilots thinking about defecting then conducting a raid.
Like that silly video; not to intimidate US Marines but to signal the population that the army will bayonet you in the throat.

Part of my pet theory about (alleged) Russian/Israeli cooperation is Syria is the need for deconfliction between S-300 marketing literature and Israeli airstrikes.

Only if we get a big red reset button labelled Overcharge...
[DAWN] Moscow would be happy to mend ties with Washington after a report by US Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence of collusion between Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... ’s campaign and Russia in the 2016 election, a senior Russian politician said on Monday.
Mueller found no evidence of collusion but left unresolved the issue of whether Trump obstructed justice by undermining the investigations that have dogged his presidency.
"In any case, there is an opportunity to reset a lot in our relations but it is still a question as to whether Trump would risk that. We of course are ready," Russian politician Konstantin Kosachev said.

We're getting the big stupid button back - how awesome is that?
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea sent back its officials to an inter-Korean liaison office in the North’s border city of Kaesong on Monday, reversing a decision two days ago to withdraw the officials, South Korea’s Unification Ministry said.
A group of four to five officials showed up at the office earlier in the morning saying they came to work "as usual," the ministry said in a statement.
Though the presence of the North’s head of the office was not confirmed, the two sides held a consultation and will "continue to operate the office as usual," the ministry said.

[CNBC] - A Green New Deal proposal backed by numerous Democrats failed to advance in the Senate on Tuesday as Democrats protested what they called a political show vote orchestrated by majority Republicans.
The nonbinding resolution, which calls on the United States to make an ambitious effort to slash its use of fossil fuels to fight climate change, fell short in a procedural vote. The Senate did not proceed to debating the measure, as 57 senators voted against it and 43 Democrats and independents who caucus with them ‐ nearly all of the Democratic caucus ‐ voted "present." Four senators who vote with Democrats ‐ Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Doug Jones and Alabama and independent Angus King of Maine ‐ voted against the resolution.
By voting "present," Democrats hoped not to go on the record on a bill that had no realistic chance of passing, even if they support the concept of a Green New Deal. The six Democratic senators running for president next year ‐ who co-sponsored the original resolution introduced by Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass. ‐ did not take a position on the measure Tuesday. On the contrary, you're on the record now - as hypocritical FRAUDS.
Both girls are minors, ages 13 and 14. They are too young to get married under Pak law. In a sane world they would also be too young to change religions. Problem would be solved, assuming the Paks wanted it to be. [DAWN] Police have detained at least seven people, including a Nikah Khwan (marriage officiator), suspected of involvement in the alleged abductions, forced conversions from Hindusim to Islam, and underage marriages of two minor sisters reported in Ghotki.
On Saturday, the government took notice of the incident after two separate videos started doing rounds on social media. The father and brother of the girls in videos circulating on social media said that the two sisters were kidnapped and forced into changing their religion from Hinduism to Islam. However, ars longa, vita brevis... Continued on Page 49

[DAWN] Thailand’s ruling junta took a stunning lead in the country’s first election since a 2014 coup with more than 90 per cent of ballots counted, putting it on course to return to power at the expense of the kingdom’s pro-democracy camp.
Sunday’s election was held under new laws written by the military to smooth its transformation into a civilian government.
While it had set the rules of the game in its favour, analysts had not expected the party to win the popular vote, given mounting anger at junta rule and due to the enduring popularity of Pheu Thai, the party of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
The army-linked Phalang Pracharat party, which wants junta chief Prayut Chan-O-Cha to return as premier, gained more than 7.3 million votes with 91 per cent of ballots tallied, according to the Election Commission ‐ nearly half a million more than Pheu Thai.
The EC said it would announce full results on Monday (today), including the numbers of lower house seats won by each party.

Because %90 elections are just evidence of such an honest election.
[PJ] Jannique Stewart, a pro-life speaker with Life Training Institute was invited to speak at an abortion debate at Cornell University but she was disinvited when the organizers realized she believes in the traditional Christian teachings on sexuality and marriage.
"In January, I was invited to speak on April 23rd, at Cornell University's Political Union (CPU), regarding the fact that abortion is a moral wrong," Stewart wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday. Everything was on track until the organizers examined the bio she sent them.
"I received a shocking phone call in which I was told that I was being DISINVITED. Why? I was being DISINVITED because of my outspoken beliefs regarding biblical sexuality," she wrote. "Specifically, because of two main beliefs: 1. Sexual activity should be reserved for marriage 2. Natural marriage defined by God as the Union of one man and one woman."
In a statement emailed to PJ Media, Stewart explained that her ministry, Love Protects, "addresses a range of issues dealing with biblical sexuality: abstinence until marriage, pro-life, anti-pornography, to issues regarding the traditional and biblical view on marriage and LGBTQ issues."
Stewart insisted: "YES, it was made very clear to me that I was being DISINVITED invited because of my views. That is VIEWPOINT DISCRIMINATION."
The story gets even worse, however. The organizers did not just disinvite her, they called her beliefs bigotry.

Ya know, for a bunch of people who think religion is silly and the Bible is full of lies, they sure do go through hoops about what The Book thinks about them.
It is almost like the XXHOTBBQ community is a bit touchy and confrontational. You know; emotionally unstable.
And these people, who hate these institutions of Church and Christianity and Marriage, want anything to do with them; getting a wedding cake to get married in a church. Its insane.
People invented Klingon out of whole cloth, certainly a term for our devotion together through love for the rest of our lives can be concocted?

As opposed to the lib standard, which is: "Marriage is between whomever and whatever, and if you start counting how many creatures and items are involved, you are a bigot!"

So they held a debate and, to insure the winner they wanted, only invited one side.
[Breitbart] The Pentagon announced Monday evening that Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan authorized $1 billion for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) for building the border wall pursuant to the president’s emergency declaration last month.
"These funds will be used to support DHS’s request to build 57 miles of 18-foot-high pedestrian fencing, constructing and improving roads, and installing lighting within the Yuma and El Paso Sectors of the border in support of the February 15 national emergency declaration on the southern border of the United States," the Pentagon announced in a statement.
The Pentagon also noted that 10 U.S.C. § 284(b)(7) gives the Department of Defense the authority to construct roads and fences and to install lighting to block drug smuggling corridors across international boundaries of the United States in support of counter-narcotic activities of Federal law enforcement agencies.
The Pentagon also released a letter from Shanahan authorizing the funds in response to a DHS request for support.
The letter was addressed to DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and was in response to her request for support to secure the southern border by blocking up to 11 drug smuggling corridors along the border by constructing roads and fences and the installation of lighting.
