[The Times-Picayune] Former Destrehan High School teacher Shelley Dufresne pleaded guilty to obscenity Thursday (April 9), admitting in court that she had sex with a 16-year-old student. The plea lets her and the student avoid a public trial, and allows her to bypass registering as a sex offender and serving three years in prison.
She must spend 90 days at an inpatient mental health facility, serve three years of active probation and pay a $1,000 fine. If she fails to complete the court-approved mental health program by the end of August, she must report to the St. Charles Parish jail Sept. 1 to serve any days for which she has not received credit, Judge Anne Simon said during the plea hearing at the Hahnville courthouse. She's not randy, she's just crackers! Needs free psychiatric help.
Dufresne also agreed to surrender her teaching license. With the parents of her former student sitting in the front row of the courtroom, Dufresne admitted to having "consensual sexual intercourse with a juvenile," as detailed in the carnal knowledge law.
"Is it true?" Simon asked Dufresne. "Yes, ma'am," she replied.
Dufresne left the courthouse at 11:35 a.m. with her mother. She and her attorney, Deanne Williams, would not comment to a reporter. However, there was that polite smile and wink.
[ARABNEWS] Zamzam water has a special place in the hearts of Moslems as something revered and unique. Every year millions of pilgrims travel to Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... for Umrah and Haj from outside and inside the country.
Many Moslems drink Zamzam as sacred water that can cure their health problems, but sometimes pilgrims and those who live inside the Kingdom are cheated by illegal venders who sell Zamzam after mixing it with other water and charging extra.
Wait -- they're diluting it with water?! How can anyone tell?

[Al Arabiya] Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe walked away from a group of journalists in South Africa commenting "I don't want to see a white man", television footage showed Friday.
Mugabe was visiting Soweto, heartland of the anti-apartheid struggle, on Thursday on the final day of his state visit to South Africa when he approached a group of reporters.
But after apparently spotting an unwelcome face, he suddenly turned on his heel with the brusque remark: "I don't want to see a white man". Do not confuse President Mugabe's statements as racist. His comments are a cultural imperative and political rallying point, quite similar to the Arab hatred of the Jew.
Mugabe's comments were caught by South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) cameras as he left a memorial museum for the 1976 student uprising in Soweto.
The Hector Pieterson Museum honours about 200 unarmed black school children killed by white police during demonstrations in June 1976.
Mugabe, 91, regularly throws barbs at western nations and former colonial powers. The same people who taught him to read, maths, governance, medicine, sanitation, how to wear clothing, why one must avoid eating human flesh, etc.
He used a press conference with President Jacob Zuma on Wednesday to attack the UN security council, the United States and Britain. Turning on his old vriends and political enablers once again is he? Must be a long-term memory issue.
Mugabe's two-day trip was his first state visit to South Africa in more than two decades.
[ARABNEWS] Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has denied issuing a fatwa that states it is permissible for a starving man to save himself by eating the flesh of a woman.
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday, Al-Asheikh said the religious edict was false and created by Islam's enemies to slander him and "keep the community busy squabbling over irrelevant issues instead of standing united behind the rightly guided rulers."
"The fatwa attributed to us is wrong. It is nothing but lies ... It has been circulated to distort the image of Islam, which has elevated and granted a dignified status to men and women without exceptions ..."
He quoted a verse from the Holy Qur'an to support his argument: "Oh you who believe, if an unrighteous man brings you news, look carefully into it, lest you harm a people out of ignorance, and then regret it."
The sheikh said Moslems must stay united against their common enemy and ignore attempts aimed at undermining their commitment to protect themselves and their countries.

[Iran Press TV] Argentinians have launched a rally outside the US embassy in the Argentine capital city of Buenos Aires to denounce Washington's policies toward Venezuela, Press TV reports. Protestations do have their limits.
On Saturday, scores of protesters erupted into the streets upon the call of the Argentine workers' unions, social organizations and political parties, urging US President Barack Obama It’s very rare that I come to an event where I’m like the fifth- or sixth-most interesting person.... to remove the unilateral economic sanctions against Caracas.

Three years after facing off over Greece's debt workout, the two giants of debt restructuring — Lazard and Blackstone – are again preparing to do battle, one for Ukraine and the latter on behalf of its creditors.
The aim of having private investors take a $15.3 billion hit on their Ukrainian debt holdings as part of a $40 billion international rescue package sounds like peanuts compared to Greece, where creditors took a 75 percent haircut on 200 billion euro of debt. But Russia's involvement this time is injecting an extra frisson: accused of supporting an anti-Kiev insurgency, Moscow is also a prominent creditor potentially capable of derailing the plan.
Another prominent player is Franklin Templeton, one of the world's biggest asset managers, whose star investor, Michael Hasenstab, has staked over $6 billion of clients' money – and his reputation – on Ukraine.
Here are profiles of some of the main players in the talks. Some nasty things on the Ukrainian side with regard to debt taking place in the background.
[Iran Press TV] The European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... has reportedly offered Greece nearly a week to present its package of reforms for its international bailout plan before it can mull releasing the emergency funding to keep the Greek economy afloat.
The offer was revealed Saturday by German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS) citing Eurozone representatives, who expressed "shock" at the lack of action by Athens in its implementation of structural reforms in exchange for pledged loans, giving the country until April 20 to submit its reform plans ahead of the April 24 meeting of the Eurozone ministers.
According to the German daily, participants at the latest round of Greece talks in Brussels unanimously described the meeting as "shocking," complaining that the Greek representative Nikos Theocharakis kept inquiring about the money "like a taxi driver" and further cautioned that Greece would soon be bankrupt.
Greece and the EU negotiators have tried to make headway over the final payout of 7.2 billion euros. The administration of Alexis Tsipras, elected in January on an anti-austerity ticket, is hesitant about accepting further cuts in public spending and is rather looking at increasing national revenues through improving tax compliance.

[GMANETWORK] Pope Francis on Saturday proclaimed an extraordinary Holy Year starting in December that he said will bring the Roman Catholic Church and its 1.2 billion followers back to basics, focusing them on the need to show mercy towards others.
In a ceremony held at St. Peter's Basilica before the Holy Door, a massive bronze door decorated with panels depicting human sin and God's mercy, the pope presented a document known as a papal bull to cardinals.
The papal bull outlined the pope's vision for the Holy Year, one of the Church's most important events, which he declared in a surprise announcement last month.
"Hey! I got an idea! Let's try doing religion in church!"
"Great idea your Holiness! Why didn't we think of that before!"
Holy Years normally take place every 25 years unless a pope decrees an extraordinary one to bring attention to a particular issue. The next one had been scheduled for 2025.
"It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters," Francis wrote in the document, titled "Face of Mercy" in Latin.
In his homily after the ceremony, Francis said a Holy Year was necessary "because the Church, in this time of great historical change, is called to offer more evident signs of God's presence and closeness".
During the last Holy Year -- or Jubilee -- in 2000, millions of pilgrims came to Rome to take part in religious festivities.
The papal bull indicated that Francis intends to focus this Jubilee on many of the themes that have embodied his papacy, including that the Church should be poor and that its mission is to serve the poor.

Hey, how about
Thou shall not covet
Thou shall not bear false witness
Thou shall not steal*
Oh, wait, that throws the old socialist agenda out the door. Never mind.
* hiring a politician to do the stealing for you is still stealing.

the Church should be poor and that its mission is to serve the poor.
So... the Church should serve itself?
And aren't the "basics" the Credo and the Great Command?
Credo:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Great Command:
"Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God, The Lord is One; Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind"
[io9.com] Ground-penetrating missiles are not performing the way designers, at first, thought they should. We tried making missiles into ground-penetrating weapons -- supposedly to destroy bunkers and weapons caches, but we all know the real reason No, I do not, but we'll not argue for the sake of the story.
-- by making them hit the ground at a higher speed. This did not work. IN fact, often the faster missiles didn't penetrate as deeply as slower missiles.

I'm thinking you need a 'chain' of shaped charges for ground penetration. Spacing would be specific to type of ground. First charge detonates; before the rubble can all fall back into the hole the second charge passes through the blast front (in principle the first charge would be shaped so as to create a transient 'hole' for the second to pass through) and detonates, pushing the rubble further out and deepening the penetration. Repeat.

Well... considering when Gulf War 1 started we didn't have anything that could destroy Saddam's underground bunkers, and by the end of the air war we had developed a bomb that would penetrate over 150 feet of sand, then 20 feet of reinforced concrete and we used them to destroy several C&C bunkers, I'm not toooo worried.

"damned hot in summer" well that might just be an inducement to the inmates to get off their lazy refugee arse and find work. or else just lay there, sweat and whine.
might be even more fun to simply send the IKEA kits over and 'forget' to include the special metric allen wrench needed to screw it all together.....
