Daily Evacuation Brief May 23-24, 2023

Daily Evacuation Brief | May 24, 2023

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • DEADLY ATTACK ON PAKISTANI OIL OPERATION IN KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA – A large militant force of up to 50 men stormed a Hungarian oil complex in the Hangu District of the Province. The attack targeted two specific pumping wells and heavy weapons and rocket-propelled grenades were employed in the attack. 4 Police and 2 private security guards were killed in the attack. It is not known how many of the militants were killed or wounded in the exchange of fire. After the attack, the militants were thought to have retreated into North Waziristan. The TTP claimed credit for the action, but this has not been confirmed by officials in Pakistan. Minor damage was inflicted on the facility but did not affect production. Police and military units were conducting sweeps of the adjacent areas as well as sending heavily armed patrols into North Waziristan.

  • IMRAN KHAN MAY HAVE OVERESTIMATED HIS POPULARITY – The ousted Prime Minister appears to have overplayed his hand and is reeling from a wave of defections from his political party. Since the nationwide violence broke out on 9 May, thirty-five party leaders have resigned from the party. Several local party offices have been vandalized, some by their own former members. Turnout at local rallies has dwindled. At this point, it is not clear how much support the embattled politician retains. A source in Islamabad said that Khan made a monumental mistake when he ‘challenged the Army’. While few are counting Pakistan’s ‘master of spin’ out, there is a growing sense that even many within his own party are tired of the constant tirades and conspiracy theories. The former PM appeared in front of three separate proceedings yesterday over a slew of legal issues. Despite launching several Twitter warnings, he was not arrested and the courts gave him lenient extensions of bail.

  • HEAVY FLOODING IN GHOR PROVINCE KILLS 5 – Rain and melting snow contributed to severe flooding in the Madrasa area that reportedly killed 5 people. Damage from the floodwaters was also reported in the Pasaband District.

  • TALIBAN FINALIZING RULES REGARDING WOMEN WORKING IN AID CAPACITIES – According to the head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Jan Egeland, the Taliban have nearly completed the new guidelines for Afghan women to work for nongovernmental organizations in the country. When pressed for dates or a timeline, the Taliban would not provide additional information. Many are skeptical that any work is being done and, even if it were, the ruling cabal in Kandahar would overrule plans to allow women back to work.

Laghman: ALM forces reportedly engaged a Taliban unit near Mount Barmasmut yesterday evening. 6 Taliban were reportedly killed in the encounter.

NEXT 24 HOURS: No Threats Received

Daily Evacuation Brief | May 23, 2023

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TALIBAN CAUTIONS IRAN OVER HELMAND RIVER THREATS – The escalating war of words over water rights between Iran and the Taliban continued yesterday as the Taliban Foreign Minister sent mixed messages regarding the commitment to the 1973 treaty. Amir Khan Muttaqi said during a press conference in Kabul that the Taliban was committed to honoring the treaty but then hedged by saying that Tehran needs to be prepared to lower expectations based on the drought in Afghanistan. In previous statements about the matter, the Taliban has consistently said it would adhere to the provisions of the treaty. We assess that the change in rhetoric was likely provoked by Iran’s public request to dispatch an assessment team to Afghanistan to measure water levels. A source in Tehran said that several of the drone flights conducted by Iran in the Spring of 2023 were sent into Afghanistan to conduct aerial hydrological surveys of reservoirs and that Tehran is convinced the Taliban are withholding water from the Helmand River with plans to divert it for domestic agricultural use. The Taliban appear to be adjusting their messaging with regard to the water issue.

  • THE RAINY SEASON MAY USHER IN DENGUE FEVER CONTAGION – The World Health Organization has issued a warning over the risk of outbreaks of Dengue Fever in Afghanistan. Populations in Eastern Afghanistan are the primary concern as the region has historically suffered the highest infection rates from the disease. The organization said it had anticipated the problem and had successfully trained approximately 300 medical staff to deal with the disease. Of note, the majority of the medical staff trained for this potential crisis are women.

  • MODERATELY POWERFUL EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN BADAKHSHAN – An earthquake struck Badakhshan Province before noon yesterday. The 4.9 magnitude quake was centered near Faizabad and the tremors were felt in Kabul. The quake was the second above 4.0 magnitude reported in a ten-hour span and seismologists are concerned that a stronger earthquake may be coming.

  • NEW PRIME MINISTER APPOINTMENT THOUGHT TO BE AIMED AT THE ‘YOUNG LIONS’ IN THE TALIBAN 2.0 – Several long-time observers and analysts feel the appointment of Maulvi Abdul Kabir as acting Prime Minister by the supreme leader was a political message aimed at Mullah Baradar, Mullah Yaqoob, and (most importantly) at Sirajuddin Haqqani. Kabir’s roots lie in Paktia Province and his family ties are largely seen as competition to the Haqqani family. There seems to be a growing consensus that Hibaitullah Akhundzada has grown paranoid and it is said that he overruled several of his inner circle who had urged for a promotion for Mullah Baradar (First Deputy Prime Minister). Further reshuffling is expected to take place and many believe the Haqqani family will lose key positions.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Takhar: An ALF unit reportedly attacked a Taliban security checkpoint in the 1st police district of Taloqan yesterday evening. 1 Talib fighter was reportedly killed and 3 others were wounded in the incident.

NEXT 24 HOURS
PAKISTAN - FORMER PM KHAN SCHEDULED TO MAKE THREE COURT APPEARANCES TODAY – The ousted Prime Minister will start his day with questioning in front of the National Accountability Bureau in Rawalpindi over a corruption case. Then, he is scheduled to request bail in a case concerning potential charges of terrorism at the Anti-Terrorism Court. Lastly, he is scheduled to appear at the Islamabad High Court where he will be processed for his biometric data in an attempt to receive another grant of bail in several new cases. The former PM called on his followers to remain calm if he is arrested today. Some believe the about-face is due in large part to several high-level defections from his party and recent polling that gives the Pakistani military very high approval ratings. Relative calm has reigned in Pakistan since the events that transpired after 9 May but the former PM has proven to be a wily political figure and it is possible that orders have gone out to instigate a new round of mass protests should be detained. However, the matters before him today are considered routine and we assess the likelihood of violence to be low. At-risk Afghans sheltering in Islamabad and Rawalpindi should continue to remain vigilant but should be able to go about their daily affairs.

Africa Horn
US airstrike targets Al-Shabaab headquarters in southern Somalia, Big Turban maimed
[Garowe] The US Africa Command has confirmed an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
against al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
Death Eaters, targeting the group's headquarters in the Middle Juba region, just a few hours after the murderous Moslems released an undated video of the commander addressing the media over current affairs.

In a statement, the US Africa Command said the airstrike was conducted in Jilib town which. The federal government of Somalia troops also participated in the raid, the command confirmed.

"The command's initial assessment is that no civilians were maimed or killed," the statement said while confirming the Saturday airstrike which comes just before the Somali National Army [SNA] start operations against the group in Jubaland and Southwest.

When such airstrikes take place, the US military usually targets senior al-Shabaab commanders or acts in response to assistance calls from the Somali army or those serving in African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS]. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the US is yet to indicate the motives of the airstrike.

Jilib, 385 kilometers [239 miles] southwest of Mogadishu, is an al-Shabaab stronghold. The airstrike also coincides with Somalia National Intelligence Security Agency [NISA] director Mahad Salad's trip to the US where he is meeting security bigshots.

The talks focused on security and counterterrorism cooperation between the two countries, the source added. Also, the airstrike came a few hours before the al-Shabaab released a video purportedly of the chief commander Ahmed Diriye alias Ahmed Umar and Abu Ubaidah addressing the media.

In the video, several other top leaders of the group are appearing in a "delegates' conference" with traditional elders and scholars conspicuously present. The group's media reported that the meeting, titled "Jihad in East Africa," took place from May 8 to 15. The group has not disclosed where the meeting took place, VOA reports.

In the video, Diriye, whose face is blurred, comments on the military offensive by the Somali government and local Ma'awisley fighters that drove al-Shabaab from vast territories in Hirshabelle and Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
states. Diriye claimed the offensive, which started last August and continued until earlier this year, has "failed."

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the government of Somalia maintains that the operation was a huge success with the military managing to kill over 3,000 al-Shabaab Death Eaters.

The second phase of operations is set to kick off soon, but the US is also keen to capture Diriye, who has a $10 million bounty on his head. He replaced Ahmed Godane who was killed in a US airstrike in 2014.

Al-Shabaab's explosion kills four soldiers in Somalia
[Garowe] Four members of the Somali National Army [SNA] were killed on Monday following a roadside explosion in Mogadishu, the Somalia capital, authorities confirmed, in an attack which comes at the time the country has heightened the fight against al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
Death Eaters.

The explosion went off in Daynile District of Mogadishu, the Ministry of Defence confirmed. This is the first major explosion in the capital in as many months which has been relatively safe following the deployment of Uganda-trained soldiers who were dispatched to the capital recently.

Brigadier General Abdullahi Ali Anod, the ministry's spokesperson, said that the attack occurred at about 9 a.m. and that three soldiers and an officer with the construction unit had been killed. He affirmed that security is tight in Mogadishu despite the unfortunate explosion.

Somalia-based al-Shabaab hard boyz grabbed credit for the attack but did not reveal the immediate target. Since the government launched an offensive against al-Shabaab, the number of explosions through Improvised Explosive Devices [IEDs] has significantly reduced, he added.

"We are not saying the earth-shattering kabooms stopped, but we are saying they weakened," Anod said. He added that the government had been expecting a rise in attacks during the month of Ramadan, but that did not happen.

"The enemy is maimed, but they can still fire bullets," he said.

The US Africa Command confirmed on Monday that it had targeted Jilib town, the headquarters of al-Shabaab but did not give further details. This comes a few hours after the group released a video purportedly of their leader Abu Ubaidah, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

A joint report by the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Assistance Mission in Somalia and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said 109 IED attacks from January 2020 to December 2021 killed 309 civilians and injured 556 others.

Somalia is set to start the second phase of operations against al-Shabaab in the coming weeks, with Mogadishu already asking for assistance from neighboring countries. Already, Kenya, Æthiopia, and Djibouti have pledged to initiate the fight against al-Shabaab with non-ATMIS troops as a show of solidarity with the country.

Somalia goes for illegal arms merchants
[Garowe] Illegal weapons merchants will be the major target of the federal government of Somalia in the latest strategy to control the flow of arms, a senior presidential advisor has said, noting that the country will not take chances by allowing criminal elements to take control of the market.

Mako Mohamud Muse, the presidential advisor on control of illegal arms, said measures have been taken to tame smugglers while lauding security forces for contributions made in regulating the flow of weapons to the country, as Somalia pushes to have the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
lift the arms embargo.

Last week, officers from the National Intelligence Security Agency [NISA] nabbed illegal weapons which were being smuggled into the country through the Port of Mogadishu with another consignment also captured a few days later. This, Muse said, is a manifestation that security agents are ready to handle criminals sneaking weapons into Somalia.

"The government has launched an investigation to identify and bring to book the individuals behind the illegal arms shipment which was meant to be used to attack the people of Somalia," she said.

Two different consignments of illegal arms were seized at the Mogadishu Port and at the Mogadishu International Airport labeled with false manifests indicating that the goods were intended for commercial use.

"At the port of Mogadishu, NISA personnel discovered a shipment of military hardware and kabooms concealed within containers posing as authorized business imports," State Minister of Defense Mohammed Ali Haga said.

The United Nations banned Somalia from importing certain weapons a move which Somalia insists is an impediment to the fight against al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
. Somalia has activated sustained military operations against the snuffies who have lost significant territories in central and southern Somalia.

Mahrah inhabitants rally against separatist plots
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The people of Mahrah province, eastern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, on Sunday reiterated their rejection of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s demand to return Yemen to what it was before achieving Yemeni unity on May 22, 1990.

The front man for the sit-in committee opposing foreign forces in Mahrah, Ali Mubarak Mahamed, confirmed in a tweet on his Twitter account that the people of Mahrah reject the projects of dividing Yemen and the return of totalitarian rule, indicating that the attempt of the advocates of secession to impose a fait accompli is unacceptable.

The committee’s front man reiterated the adherence of the people of Mahrah and all Yemenis to the constitution and the laws of the Republic of Yemen, considering the division of the country a goal sought by those with agendas affiliated with the external occupation.

Mahamed pointed out that those who adopt these calls "do not own their decision but are waiting for directions from the capitals of the occupying countries."

These remarks coincide with the 33rd anniversary of Yemeni unity, which restored the coherence of the two parts of Yemen on May 22, 1990.

Saudi Arabia Recruits Thousands Into ''Dera Al-Watan'' Militias to Confront UAE-Backed Forces in Southern Yemen
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Soddy Arabia

as an additional force within the so-called "Dera al-Watan" forces, well-informed sources said on Monday.

The sources stated that Saudi Arabia is preparing three military brigades from the southern recruits and train them in Ma’rib province, on the outskirts of Shabwah and Hadhramaut provinces in eastern Yemen.

This comes after Riyadh deployed the "Dera al-Watan" forces at al-Abr road in Hadhramaut and at al-Wadea border crossing between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, after the refusal of the Saudi commander of the "support brigade" of the Saudi-led coalition, Sultan al-Baqami, the deployment of the UAE-backed "Hadhrami elite" at the crossing.

The oil-rich eastern provinces of Yemen have turned into a theater for Saudi-Emirati competition, serving the US-British presence in those regions.

Dzhambetov's father agreed to his son's murder
Direct Translation via Gogle Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Hussein Dzhambetov's father stated on the audio recording that he forgives the blood lover who will kill his son. Hussein Dzhambetov, having arrived in Chechnya, began to hand over to the authorities those Chechens who had been in their house and expressed disagreement with the actions of the Chechen authorities, including Imam Valid Kuruev, a clergyman said.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2022, a criminal case was initiated against a 40-year-old resident of Chechnya, Hussein Dzhambetov, under the article on participation in the creation of a terrorist community. According to security officials, he took part in the creation of the "Separate Special Purpose Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria", which is part of the foreign legion of the armed forces of Ukraine. On May 14, it became known that Dzhambetov returned to Chechnya.

Dzhambetov's defection to the side of Ramzan Kadyrov caused wide discussion, but this did not affect the activities of the Ichkerians, supporters of the self-proclaimed Ichkeria said. Dzhambetov, after returning to Chechnya, published a video in which he boasted of participating in the murder of the Ukrainian military.

Video clip "Dzhambetov's father allowed his son's blood for Muslims" with an audio recording in Chechen, which sounds against the background of a photograph of a gray-bearded man, was published on May 22 by the Crime State YouTube channel.

"These videos were sent to me a lot. Maybe because of sympathy, or maybe for support. I can only pray to Allah with one dua ( prayer in Islam, - note of the "Caucasian Knot" ): I forgive the blood of my son to the one who, upon meeting, will deprive him of his life, and I ask Allah to first accept his death," the "Caucasian Knot" translated the man's words.

The man whose voice is heard in the video is really Khusein Dzhambetov's father, who received the nickname "Khusein the Butcher" in Europe, a representative of the clergy of the republic, who is familiar with Dzhambetov's family, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity.

According to him, representatives of the Chechen clergy often came to Europe. "Not Kadyrov's people, just honest imams, truly believers. They were worried that young people were moving away from faith, that customs and habits were being forgotten.

Naturally, these visits were not coordinated with the Chechen authorities. Among them was a particularly respected imam, Valid Kuruev. He, among other things, he was a longtime friend of Dzhambetov's father and was a guest in their house for several days. A guest for Caucasians is a person who is under the protection of the one under whose roof he found shelter and food, "the source said. However, according to him, Hussein Dzhambetov began to "surrender to the authorities of Chechnya" those who "weave plots" in Europe.

The interlocutor noted that for several days no one knows where Valid Kuruev disappeared.

"He disappeared a few days after he returned from Europe. It is a great shame for the old man that his son betrayed everyone who said something bad about . But the worst thing is the thought that his guest, his old friend, turned out to in all likelihood, in the dungeons. Perhaps nothing bad is done to the old man, but the very fact that he got there on a tip from his own son - Dzhambetov Sr. is difficult to survive. That's why he made such a decision," he commented on the statement of Dzhambetov's father.

Valid Kuruev in the past served as deputy mufti of Chechnya, in 2011-2017 he was repeatedly quoted in this capacity by the official republican media. The "Caucasian Knot" has no information on how long Kuruev has not contacted his relatives and confirmed the assumptions about his disappearance.

A reader of the "Caucasian Knot" drew attention to the video in which Dzhambetov's father condemns his actions .

"It is difficult to say whether this statement comes from Father Hussein  Dzhambetov or not. Although, given the circumstances of the latter’s return to Chechnya (leaving the battlefield in Ukraine, betrayal of his yesterday’s comrades), this is quite possible.<...> Refusal father from son, especially allowing him to be killed, is an extreme measure for Chechens, which is allowed only in exceptional cases, and this will certainly become public. cursed by his father," he wrote.

Akhmed Zakayev said on May 18 that Dzhambetov Sr. was shocked by his son's act. "He was the son of my comrade-in-arms, who went through the war, the first war. His father is an exceptionally decent man. I talked to him on the phone yesterday. I expressed my condolences to him in connection with the betrayal. He is very seriously worried about this," Zakayev said in interview on YouTube channel Radio NV.

Akhmed Zakaev - Special Representative of Aslan Maskhadov in the West (2001), Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (2007-2009). He was put on the international wanted list on charges of terrorism and received political asylum in Great Britain, according to the  biographical information prepared by the "Caucasian Knot"  about Akhmed Zakayev.
Akhmed Zakaev: not related to Imran Zakaev (Call of Duty inside joke)
The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that on May 14, a video message was published in which Khusein Dzhambetov stated that  he came to Chechnya  thanks to the "fathers of the country" and voiced threats against those who imagine the situation in Chechnya is not the same as it really is.

Report: Turkish intelligence uncovers Mossad ring operating against Iranian targets
[IsraelTimes] Ottoman Turkish intelligence has uncovered a cell of 15 people allegedly working for Israel’s Mossad against Iranian targets in the country, local media reports.

According to the Daily Sabah website, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

The report says at least 11 people have been detained and searches are ongoing for other members.

The report identified the leader of the cell as Selcuk Kucukkaya, a local businessman, and released pictures of him.

Last year Turkey also claimed to have broken up a Mossad ring and put 15 people on trial for espionage.

Thal Deputy Superintendent of Police Irfan Khan told Dawn.com, "Late at night, bandidos murderous Moslems opened indiscriminate firing at the security personnel posted at MOL Pakistain Oil and Gas Company’s plant at the location of Mainji Khel.

"The soldiers bravely exchanged fire for two hours. Four personnel of the Frontier Constabulary and two from a private security company have been martyred in this attack," he added.

Khan further said the bandidos murderous Moslems were able to flee by taking advantage of the darkness at night time and that the bodies of the soldiers have been shifted to Thal Combined Military Hospital.

Rooters quoted Khan as saying that the attack on the gas plant was made by up to 50 terrorists, who targeted two wells — M-8 and M-10 — with heavy weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades.

"The security guards at M-8 repulsed the terrorists’ attack but the casualties took place at M-10," Rooters quoted Khan as saying. He added that the murderous Moslems also damaged a solar power plant at the gas power plant before fleeing to adjoining North Wazoo, where they had come from.

AFP quoted district police chief Asif Bahadur as saying, "They (the terrorists) were armed with light and heavy weapons and fired mortar shells, killing six security personnel at the main entrance" of the site.

According to AFP, Bahadur blamed the attack on the murderous Moslem outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban

Pakistain (TTP), though no group has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

He added the attackers came from the nearby North Waziristan district, which borders Afghanistan and has historically been a hive of militancy, AFP reported.

Noor Wali Khan, a second district police official, also confirmed the attack and the corpse count to AFP.

Meanwhile,

AFP quoted a front man for the Hungarian embassy in Islamabad as saying that they are "assessing the information" and that no diplomatic action was planned.

The MOL Group has operated a Pakistain subsidiary since 1999 and employs 400 people in the country, according to their website.

The company did not immediately respond to either Rooters’ or AFP’s requests for comment.

, after the outlawed TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November last year.

In his maiden press briefing last month, ISPR Director General Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry had said that at least 293 people were martyred and 521 were maimed in 436 terrorist incidents over the past year.

In KP, 192 people were martyred in 219 terror activities, while 80 people lost lives in 206 incidents in Balochistan, 14 people in five attacks in Punjab, and seven in six terrorism incidents across Sindh.

The DG ISPR had also said that overall 137 security personnel were martyred and 117 injured in anti-terror operations in the ongoing year.

NIA Nets Jaish-e-Mohammad Operative Who Passed Sensitive Information To Pakistan
[OneIndia] In a major success for the agencies, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a member of the Jaish-e-Mohammad in Jammu And Kashmir.

Sources tell OneIndia that the arrested operative Mohammad Ubaid Malik was arrested from Kupwara as he was found to be passing on information to his Pakistan based handlers.

The source cited above also said that Malik had been passing on sensitive security information, especially on the movement of troops in Jammu And Kashmir.

Post his arrest, the NIA found incriminating material on him which reinforced his involvement in acts of terror. An NIA official said that it was found that he was in touch with two Jaish-e-Mohammad operatives in Pakistan and would constantly pass on information to them.

The arrest is part of NIA's crackdown against conspiracies hatched by proscribed terrorist organisations across the border to destabilise India through attacks in J&K," the NIA said.

Malik was arrested in a case relating to June 2022 when the NIA had carried out raids at over a dozen locations in Jammu And Kashmir. The NIA said that this case is part of the drive to dismantle the terror network in J&K.

Raids were also carried out at Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, Awantipora, Shopian, Anantnag, Handwara and Poonch.

Official sources say that the raids are aimed at busting the terror networks that are hatching conspiracies to carry out attacks on the security forces. If one looks at the recent attacks, they have been aimed at the security forces only. This is because the over ground operatives are active and the informants continue to pass on information to the Pakistan handlers.

The recent raids pertain to the conspiracies, which are hatched physically as well as on the internet. They also pertain to the attacks carried out using sticky and magnetic bombs as well as with improvised explosive devices and small arms, officials said.

NIA officials also pointed out that the explosives are delivered by using drones. These explosives are primarily being used to strike at the minorities in Jammu and Kashmir and the security forces.

Three YBS members killed in Turkish drone strike in Shingal: Kurdistan CT
[Rudaw] At least three members of the Shingal Resistance® Units (YBS) were killed as a result of a Ottoman Turkish dronezap on the Yazidi heartland in the early morning hours of Tuesday, reported the Erbil-based Kurdish counterterrorism.

The strike targeted a YBS base in Shingal’s Khalaf village at around 5am, resulting in the killing of the three fighters, according to the statement from the counterterrorism unit.

The YBS is an all-Yazidi force linked with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Media affiliated to the PKK claimed that the Ottoman Turkish drone targeted "a house" without mentioning any links to the YBS, also stating that the number of casualties and the extent of damages remain unknown.

The attack blamed on The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
is the latest in a series of deadly dronezaps by Ankara on the Kurdistan Region, claiming to target PKK fighters and their alleged proxies. This is the second alleged Turksih attack on YBS bases since the May 14 Ottoman Turkish presidency and parliamentary elections.

At least three YBS fighters were killed in a Ottoman Turkish dronezap on May 16, reported the Kurdish counterterrorism. PKK-affiliated media claimed that the attack targeted a civilian house in Shingal without resulting in any casualties.

The PKK is a Kurdish force fighting for the increased political and cultural rights of Kurds in Turkey and has waged an armed insurgency against Ankara for decades. It is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, who frequently targets the group and its alleged offshoots through military operations and dronezaps in the Kurdistan Region and Syria.

YBS has controlled parts of Shingal since ISIS was defeated in the town but the presence of the force and several other forces in the district has been blamed for insecurity which has prevented thousands of its residents who fled due to the war on ISIS from returning.
A local source, speaking to Shafaq News Agency Tuesday, revealed that "the bombardment struck a PKK site in the Khanasor area of the Sinjar district."

Preliminary information indicates casualties and injuries among the ranks of the party's members, the source added.

Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorism Agency in the Kurdistan Region reported that a Turkish drone targeted a position of the People's Defense Forces (YPG) fighters at 5:00 a.m. this morning.

According to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, the airstrike hit the village of Chomo-Khalf in the Sinjar district, resulting in the deaths of three fighters.

IDF razes West Bank home of terrorist in March Tel Aviv shooting under rain of molotovs and rockets
[IsraelTimes] Calls from mosque loudspeakers in Ni’lin urge locals to converge around deceased attacker’s home to thwart demolition, leading to festivities with Israeli troops

The Israel Defense Forces early Tuesday morning demolished the West Bank apartment of a Paleostinian man who carried out a deadly terror shooting outside a Tel Aviv cafe in March.

Or Eshkar, 32, was killed as a result of the attack, succumbing to his wounds 11 days later. Two other Israelis were maimed in the shooting by 23-year-old Mutaz Salah al-Khawaja, who was bumped off in a shootout with coppers and civilians after fleeing from Tel Aviv’s Dizengoff Street where he had initially opened fire.

IDF soldiers arrived en masse at al-Khawaja’s hometown of Ni’lin outside Ramallah after midnight on Tuesday and were met with resistance from local Paleostinian youth. According to Paleostinian media, calls were made from the loudspeakers of the village’s mosques, urging locals to converge on al-Khawaja’s home in order to thwart the demolition.

An bomb was hurled and fireworks were launched at the Israeli soldiers who responded with gunfire of their own, the IDF said. The army ordered families living in homes nearby to evacuate, and IDF snipers posted on their rooftops to offer protection to troops below, Paleostinian media said.

No Israeli soldiers were maimed during the operation, the IDF said.

Only al-Khawaja’s apartment, on the first floor of the four-story building, was demolished in a controlled explosion.

As a matter of policy, Israel regularly demolishes the homes of Paleostinians accused of carrying out deadly terror attacks as well as their accomplices. The demolition process generally takes several months, as the home needs to be mapped out, the High Court must address potential appeals by the family, and security forces often wait for an optimal time to enter Paleostinian cities or neighborhoods for the operation.

The Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, terror group said al-Khawaja was a member of its armed wing. He did not have an entry permit to Israel when he carried out the attack..
Doing the murder Israeli Arabs won’t do.
In separate overnight raids across the West Bank, the IDF said Tuesday morning that troops detained 11 wanted Paleostinians and seized several firearms.

Turkish forces move positions to frontlines with government in Idlib
[NPASyria] Ottoman Turkish forces in eastern Idlib moved their military positions to the frontline with the Syrian government forces as talks regarding the re-opening of the M4 highway are underway, exclusive sources told North Press on Monday.

Military sources in the Syrian opposition said that Ottoman Turkish forces evacuated their posts in the cities of Sarmin and Binnish, in eastern Idlib, and moved them to areas abutting government forces on the M4 Highway.

The sources added that three posts in east of Binnish were moved to the towns of Afes and Taftanaz, in eastern Idlib, which are adjacent to government forces in Saraqib and Talhiyeh. They also moved another post at Sarmin to the village of Maaret Alya, west of Saraqib.

The sources noted that these changes come amid talks between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Russian-Turkish joint patrol roams Syria’s Kobani
[NPASyria] Russian Military Police (MP) conducted on Monday a joint patrol with the Ottoman Turkish forces in the western countryside of Kobani in northern Syria.

This is the 138th joint patrol between the two forces in the region since the signing of the Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement in northeast Syria.

In October 2019, following the so-called Ottoman Turkish military operation "Peace Spring" in areas of northeast Syria which resulted in the occupation of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, the Ottoman Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.

The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Ottoman Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.

The patrol, which consisted of eight Russian and Ottoman Turkish military vehicles accompanied by two Russian helicopters, set off from the village of Ashma, 20 km west of Kobani.

The patrol passed the villages of Charqli Fouqani, Jebneh, and Bayadiyah, reaching the village of Zor Maghar, four km west of Kobani.

Then, it turned back and passed through the villages of Sousan, Qola, Qaraqoy Tahtani, Binder, Mishko, and Jebneh, reaching its starting point in the village of Ashma.

The Ottoman Turkish military vehicles returned to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

through the gate near Ashma, while the Russian military vehicles returned to their position near the town of Sirrin south of Kobani.

On May 15, the Russian MP conducted a one-sided patrol without the Ottoman Turkish forces in the eastern countryside of Kobani, northern Syria.

Government informant found killed in Quneitra
[NPASyria] The body of an informant of the Syrian government forces was found on Monday two days after he was kidnapped in the eastern countryside of Quneitra, southwest Syria.

A local source told North Press, "The residents found the body of Fadi Marzouk al-Arar near a mosque in the town of Umm Batnah in the eastern countryside of Quneitra."

After his abduction, the source added, a video of him was released in which he confessed to his responsibility for handing over a number of locals to the government forces.

The source noted that al-Arar had been collaborating with the government forces since they took control of the region in July 2018.

On May 11, residents found the bodies of two soldiers of the government forces, named Mahmoud Warda and Ahmad Muhammad al-Hourani, between the villages of Jabah and Masharah in the eastern countryside of Quneitra.

Three towns in Deir ez-Zor fall to ISIS rule
[NPASyria] Nasser is afraid to go out at night. He fears the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) sleeper cells that sneak around between houses. He does not want to be the group’s next victim.

Nasser al-Hassan, a pseudonym for a local in the town of al-Shuhayl, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that he and his community are still scared of ISIS gunnies who use civilian settlements to target and attack checkpoints and military posts of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town.

The situation in al-Shuhayl resembles towns like al-Busayrah and Diban, in eastern Deir ez-Zor. The three towns are among the most dangerous regions of Deir ez-Zor due to the intensive ISIS activity there. They have been dubbed the ’Bermuda Triangle’.

ACTIVITY FACTORS
Al-Hassan and his peers are unable to report the movements of ISIS gunnies walking among civilians. They fear ISIS gunnies will go after the "snitches" or target their family members, he said.

"The nature of this tribal region" is another reason for not reporting their actions, he explains. Reporting the movement of ISIS members belonging to any tribe would result in tribal disputes that might end up in tribal war. Therefore, most people prefer to stay silent rather than facing the consequences of "snitching on" someone, particularly since some gunnies are from their home town and still believe in the ideology of the group, while others are outsiders.

The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor was the last ISIS stronghold. After fierce battles in Baghuz, the SDF and the US-led Global Coalition announced the defeat of the group in March 2019.

After declaring its defeat, ISIS cells that managed to escape from Baghuz joined gunnies hiding in the Syrian Desert and resumed their activities at night in SDF-held areas of eastern Deir ez-Zor.

The towns of al-Busayrah, al-Shuhayl, and Diban, located in the east, are subject to a breakdown in security and numerous ISIS attacks, mostly at night. The responsibility for pursuing these gunnies is placed on the SDF.

"But they cannot entirely eliminate these cells, as some of the locals are cooperating with the gunnies and harbor them in their homes. Some fear the group’s oppression should they fail to cooperate or because they believe in ISIS’ ideology," al-Hassan explains.

The group’s gunnies usually ride cycle of violences during attacks in the three towns, due to their speed, ease of movement and ability to quickly hide them. They often carry AK-47 rifles and pistols.

The gunnies rarely use rockets. They carry out attacks —often targeting checkpoints, military posts, or personnel wanted by the group — then disappear into civilian settlements or head into the depth of the desert.

RANDOM CHECKPOINTS
Ziyad al-Anter, a pseudonym, from Diban, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said that six masked ISIS gunnies riding cycle of violences and wearing traditional outfits of the region set up a checkpoint in front of his house on the main road into town.

Around 5:30 am, they checked the IDs of people passing by and detained a young man from the city of Hajin, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, who works in the sale of sheep, according to al-Anter.

He told North Press that when SDF patrols came to the location of the checkpoint, the gunnies had already left. Hours after they retreated, the people of the town of Suwaydan, 70 km east of Deir ez-Zor, found the head of the detained young man hanging near the roundabout of the town.

"A piece of paper was found near the head that said the reason he was killed was because he had ’snitched’ on ISIS murderous Moslems," the source said. The incident sparked fear and panic among locals and made them hesitant to report the movement of ISIS murderous Moslems, according to al-Anter.

On April 21, 2019, the people of the town of Suwaydan Jazira found the decapitated body of Abdulsaleh al-Ramadan on the main road and a piece of paper with the group’s logo, marked with the words "Wilayat al-Khayr." The note alleged that the victim was guilty of handing over "brothers," a word used by the group to describe its members, to the SDF, and his crime was "apostasy," which is punished by death.

Al-Anter noted that the group is self-financed. They impose "royalties" on merchants to be able to fund their attacks. ISIS members publicly go to merchants’ houses and demand ’zakat’, or an Islamic tax. They usually have no other choice but to pay.

The group’s gunnies operate with ease in the towns of al-Shuhayl, al-Busayrah, and Diban. The towns are under the control of tribes that do not want to challenge the group or report to military authorities about their movements and activities. The towns are also close to the vast rugged desert, which is a safe-haven for ISIS murderous Moslems.

Since the beginning of 2023, the SDF and US—led Global Coalition announced the arrest and dismantling of more than three ISIS cells inside the three towns. The group has grabbed credit for over 13 attacks against SDF personnel, checkpoints, and headquarters in the three towns.

Relative calm turns to simmering mutual shelling in NW Syria
[NPASyria] On Monday evening, mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and the opposition factions has ended days of relative calm in areas in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria in the countryside of Idlib, Aleppo, and Latakia.

Military sources from the opposition told North Press that the government forces targeted with dozens missiles and artillery the villages of Kafr Taal, Kafr Amma, Bahfis, al-Wasatah, al-Qasr, the vicinity of Kafr Nouran, and Atarib west of Aleppo.

The government shelling came in response to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

Additionally, the government forces stationed in Kafr Nabl and Maarat al-Numan south of Idlib launched similar shelling against the village and towns of al-Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, outskirts of al-Bara, Mjdlya, and Maarbalit in Zawiya Mountain, as well as, areas in the northern countryside of Latakia.

Meanwhile,

military sources in al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room told North Press that their factions targeted, with heavy artillery shells and rocket launchers, positions of the government forces in the Base 46, villages of Urum al-Sughra and Mizanaz west of Aleppo, and areas in Jabal al-Akrad northern Latakia.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and opposition factions accompanied by Russian warplanes’ flight despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.

[NPASyria] Residents in the northern countryside of Daraa, south Syria, found a body of a man on Tuesday bearing marks of torture and gunshot wounds.

A local source told North Press, "The residents found the body of Muhammad Khair Adnan al-Aqayleh, 31, on the agrarian road connecting the cities of Jassem and Nawa in the northern countryside of Daraa. The body showed signs of torture and gunshot wounds in several parts."

The source added that the body was transferred to the Jassem National Hospital before being claimed by the dear departed’s family.

Al-Aqayleh hails from the city of al-Sheikh Maskin in central Daraa, the source said, adding that he was civilian who had not previously joined any military formation.

Since the Syrian government forces recaptured Daraa in 2018 from armed opposition factions, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos with liquidations, abductions, robberies taking place on a daily basis.

Two civilians killed in eastern Daraa

[NPASyria] Two brothers were killed on Monday by unknown button men in a town in the eastern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.

A local source told North Press, "The two brothers, Ahmad and Muhammad Mustafa al-Radi, were rubbed out by unknown button men in the town of Nassib in the eastern countryside of Daraa."

Government forces complete 5th settlement process in Syria’s Daraa

[NPASyria] On Monday, the Syrian government forces opened the fifth settlement center in Daraa city, southern Syria. Such centers offer Syrians wanted for the government’s state security branches a way to settle their status.

An exclusive source told North Press that the government forces will open a settlement center in Qasr al-Houriat hall, in al-Kashif neighborhood, in Daraa al-Mahatta.

The source added that the settlement is for those who evaded the country’s compulsory military service and reserve service in the government army.

Government forces will give those who defected from the army one month to return to positions, while those who failed to enlist in the reserve service will be given six months to join, the source added.

Seventeen people from the town of al-Naimah, in the eastern countryside of Daraa, are wanted for state security; most of them belonged to the Eighth Brigade of the Russia-backed Fifth Corps, the source noted.

The source indicated that the wanted members of the Eighth Brigade will hand over the weapons they received when they enlisted.

The fifth settlement was launched on May 16, when the status of 25 people was settled and a number of weapons were handed over.

Government forces completed the fourth settlement in April of 2022, which lasted for two days, and was overseen by officers from the Russian Military Police (MP). The first and the largest such center was opened in September 2018.

In July 2018, opposition factions and Syrian government forces reached an agreement, mediated by Russia, regarding the opposition-held areas of Daraa.

According to the deal, opposition bandidos Lions of Islam who agreed to hand over heavy weapons, were handed special cards to protect them from prosecution, and allowed them to stay in Daraa. A source from the Liwa al-Quds told North Press, "Unidentified button men riding a cycle of violence targeted with machine guns a military vehicle of the al-Quds near the Amour Mountain in the eastern desert of Homs."

He added that the attack resulted in killing two members of the militia and wounding two others.

To pursue the attackers, the source said, Liwa al-Quds brought military reinforcements to the area, but could not catch the assailants.

Iranian authorities dismantle ‘foreign-backed spy network:’ Ministry
[Rudaw] The Iranian intelligence ministry on Tuesday claimed that a foreign-backed espionage network attempting to gather sensitive intelligence from authorities was dismantled in the country and its affiliates were arrested.

An unidentified foreign intelligence network "had been collecting information on Iranians traveling to and from the country, including individuals who held key positions in government departments or had access to important data in sensitive institutions," state media reported, citing a statement by Iran’s intelligence ministry.

According to the ministry, the agents attempted to take advantage of information about people traveling to and from the country and deliver the data to "the foreign intelligence service in question."

They were arrested after their locations were identified inside Iran, the ministry said.

Iranian authorities frequently carry out missions to arrest alleged spy networks in the country, often accusing Israel of being behind the espionage groups. Both countries are fierce rivals and consider each other as their greatest enemy.

The Iranian government has also blamed Kurdish authorities in the Kurdistan Region for failing to reinforce its side of the border with the Islamic republic, allowing alleged "infiltrators" to cross into the country and carry out espionage activities.

On Sunday, the intelligence ministry announced that its forces had dismantled a network of Israeli spies in the west of the country.

In January, Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
claimed it dismantled two teams of Israeli spies in several provinces and foiled their plot to assassinate a military official and conduct sabotage operations.

Another network of agents allegedly working for the Israeli intelligence (Mossad) was arrested last year while allegedly attempting to carry out "terrorist" acts in the Islamic republic.
