[CBC.CA] Sandford, who lived on East Coast, was jugged June 18 in Las Vegas
A British man accused of trying to take a police officer's gun and kill Donald Trump during a weekend rally in Las Vegas will not be released on bail.
Public defender Heather Fraley said Sandford appeared to be competent and hadn't been diagnosed with a mental illness but has autism and previously attempted suicide. He was living out of his car, didn't have a job and was in the country illegally after overstaying a visa.
Federal Magistrate Judge George Foley said at a hearing Monday that Michael Steven Sandford, 20, was a potential danger to the community and a flight risk. Sandford, who wore leg irons and appeared to tremble during the court hearing, is charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds and was assigned a federal public defender.
He has not entered a plea.
Public defender Heather Fraley said Sandford appeared to be competent and hadn't been diagnosed with a mental illness but has autism and previously attempted suicide. He was living out of his car, didn't have a job and was in the country illegally after overstaying a visa.
His mother told court researchers that he was treated for obsessive compulsive disorder and anorexia when he was younger, and that he once escaped a hospital in England, according to the public defender.
Fraley argued that Sandford should go to a halfway house because he didn't have a criminal history,
...but now he tried to kill a presidential candidate, which changes things.
but the judge said he should stay in detention ahead of a July 5 court date.
Secret Service agents said Sandford went to a Trump rally on Saturday at the Treasure Island Casino and approached a Las Vegas police officer to say he wanted an autograph from Trump. The criminal complaint said Sandford was incarcerated Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! after grabbing the handle of an officer's gun in an attempt to remove it from a holster.
Reportedly given lessons at shooting range
Agents said Sandford told them he had been in the U.S. for about a year and a half,
How did he eat and put gas in his car if he had no job? And how did a seventeen year old Aspie with anxiety problems manage to fly to America on his own?
We'll see if our investigators are serious by whether they follow the money...
lived in Hoboken, N.J., and drove to the San Bernardino, Calif., area before coming to Las Vegas on June 16.
Sandford told officers he had been planning an liquidation for about a year
...a long time to plan such a thing...
and was convinced he would die in the attempt. He said he also reserved a ticket for a Trump rally in Phoenix, scheduled for later in the day, as a backup plan.
He told authorities that he went to the Battlefield Vegas shooting range the day before the rally and fired 20 rounds from a 9mm Glock pistol to learn how to use it.
No PTSD? How on earth did he manage that?
Police detectives who visited the range spoke with an employee who confirmed that he provided Sandford shooting lessons, according to the complaint signed by Secret Service Special Agent Joseph Hall.
About 1,500 people attended the Las Vegas rally, which was held in the Mystere Theater inside the casino. Attendees had to pass through metal detectors manned by Secret Service, police and casino security officials.
Sandford appeared in court on Monday to face a charge of "an act of violence on restricted grounds", and faces more than 10 years in prison and a $250,000 (£170,000) fine if convicted.

Already a crowdfund effort for his legal defense. No money raised so far.

Hard to figure what his motive might have been. Attempting suicide by cop? Disgruntled Trump University student? Or perhaps being used by someone wanting to get a chance to put 'Anybody but Trump' on the ballot? Or a scheme to get some positive Trump publicity, if the assassination was doomed to fail from the start?

According to The Daily Mail, the lad grew up in a nice part of Surrey. And after years of spending thousands of pounds buying Robot Wars robots, he suddenly decided to sell them off to raise funds two years ago.

What I mean by paranoid is you take some soft headed guy like this, put some ideas in his head, give him a little money, point him in a certain direction and...isn't that how the jihadis get their suicide bombers?
[BREITBART] Former Democratic Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, State Senator Ron Calderon has admitted that he took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes for legislative action as he submits a guilty plea to a federal corruption charge. Calderon faced a 24-count indictment before agreeing to the terms of the plea deal.
The United States Department of Justice details:
In the plea agreement, Ron Calderon admits accepting bribe payments from the owner of a Long Beach hospital who wanted a law to remain in effect so he could continue to reap millions of dollars in illicit profits from a separate fraud scheme and from undercover FBI agents who were posing as independent filmmakers who wanted changes to California’s Film Tax Credit program.

he took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes for legislative action
Democratic New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said certain types of firearms like the AR-15 are the kind of guns that should be banned. She added that people trying to purchase the weapon ‐ which is popular among American gun owners ‐ are "buying it do bad things." My AR-15 is hurt. It has never done a bad thing and feels left out now...
"Well, I think people need to have their voices heard, and what I've heard from people in New Hampshire is they think there's reasonable legislation that we can pass including things like looking at the types of weapons that so easy for people to get," the New Hampshire Democrat said on Mitchell in the Morning on Monday. Considering the hoops you have to go through to buy one, I guess this cock splash has never tried to buy it.
"The fact is, the AR-15, the gun that (Omar) Mateen used, that's a weapon of war; it's advertised as being able do technologically advances in killing people that previous weapons have been unable to do and somebody who is buying that kind of a weapon isn't buying it for target shooting," she said. "They're not buying it to go out and hunt deer. You don't need an AK-47 or an AR-15 to hunt deer. They're buying it to do bad things and we need to recognize that and address it." My .270, which is used for deer was modeled after the Mauser 7mm rifle which WAS a weapon of war. So is it only being used for "Bad Things" too? Also remember that the AR-15 is a very popular varmint and coyote rifle as well.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation says there are anywhere between 5 million to 10 million AR-15 rifles in the United States, according to CNBC. The gun used in the Olrando shooting was not an AR-15, but a Sig Sauer MCX rifle, a similar appearing rifle. Ooooo... scary looking like the AR! BAN IT!!!
They will keep beating this drum until we are completely disarmed.

I may have told this anecdote already, but it bears repeating. My cousin met Shaheen when she was governor of New Hampshire about fifteen years ago. His description of her - 'She's as dumb as a box of rocks.'

Yes, we buy it to do bad things. We buy it to not be a slave. We buy it to be responsible citizens of our Republic, not the feral Mob the Democrats lead. We buy it to safeguard our families and their futures, at the potential cost of our own. Even knowing that cost, we still buy it, learn it, practice with it and enhance the skills we hopefully never need.
As soulless vermin, she will never understand that. And that is the greatest tragedy of America, that our citizens have not been taught the truth about life, liberty and what made America the greatest nation on Earth.

NH natives use AR-15s to chase off Massholes who are invading the state to avoid taxes but still vote for schifozas like Shaheen.
I saw a study a while back that indicated that wasn't just the Masshole effect - they pointed to other states like New York, New Jersey & Pennsylvania as contributing to this problem (and being a NH native back when it was a red state, I'm calling it a problem).

Well, some of them have been taught, and the notion scares them senseless. They'd rather be told what to do, and taken care of than be free.

[Politico] One day after the deadliest U.S. mass shooting in nearly three years, the Senate voted down a pair of gun-control measures that were designed by Democrats to put Republicans on record on the charged issue.
The votes, which came in connection with GOP legislation to repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood, marked the first roll calls on the Senate floor this year that would enact tougher restrictions on firearms. And despite a continued push from Democrats and gun-control advocates, as well as scores of fatal mass shootings nationwide -- from churches to community colleges to a center for people with developmental disabilities -- not a single lawmaker changed position from an ambitious gun overhaul effort that failed more than two years ago.

'No gun sales to people on the 'Terror Watch List' seems to be such common sense that people don't want to listen to arguments against it. They refuse to understand that it would provide - as it stands - no protection against abuse and no recourse (or extremely difficult recourse) against errors.
I'm pretty sure the people who were pushing it were quite aware of its problems but figure it's a 'win-win' for them - if it's voted down (as it was) they get to demonize gun nuts for supporting terrorists, and if it's passed they would get to abuse it for all sorts of 'convenient' purposes.

All the government would need to do is get the membership list for the NRA, and add i. t to the watch list.

John Koskinen holds the key. Deleting IRS 'Earning Income' recipients and those making over $500k per year will produce a fairly accurate 'watch list.'
After all conservatives, veterans, and those who advocate self-reliance are, by definition, more dangerous to the country than terrorists. At least in their minds.

These lines from the 1962 classic film "The Manchurian Candidate" came to mind after I listened to President Obama’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
The president said, "I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office."
Really? She would be equal to George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan and himself? Notice President Obama didn’t say she is "more qualified," because that would diminish him, and when it comes to narcissism, Mr. Obama and the Clintons make Donald Trump look like a shrinking violet.
In his effusive praise of Mrs. Clinton, the president did not mention any specific accomplishments that might qualify her for the office. That is because there are none. There is a lot of symbolism, of course, but no substantive results as secretary of state, an unremarkable single term as a senator from New York, and eight years as first lady when, in 1993, she couldn’t get the Clintons’ health care reform legislation through a majority Democratic Congress. There is, however, a long list of dubious and possibly criminal "achievements."
[LATIMES] Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body... will step into the campaign fray Monday with a foreign policy address that casts Donald Trump’s approach to the world as antithetical to American values.
Biden’s address to the Center for a New American Security opens as a defense of the B.O. regime’s foreign policy record, one that has "positioned the United States at the forefront of tremendous opportunity," he will say, according to advance excerpts.
But Biden will also target the presumptive Republican nominee, even if not by name, arguing that by turning inward, or seeking "sound-bite solutions in a world defined by complexity," the U.S. could "squander all of our hard-earned progress."
"I’ve never been more optimistic about America’s capacity to lead our world to a more peaceful and prosperous future. But our leadership does not spring from some inherent American magic -- it never has," he plans to say.
"It stems from our willingness to see challenges on the horizon and step forward to meet them first, our ability to lead by example and draw partners to our side. That’s what has always made America great."

"squander all of our hard-earned progress"
Mr. Biden - in 2011 you were personally responsible for turning the killer Ali Musa Daqduq (responsible for executing 5 US MPs captured in Karbala - shot them in the back of the head with their hands zip tied) back over to the Iraqis only to see them release him to the Hezbollah (this hurt me personnaly). Concurrently, you turned your head and allowed Maliki to charge VP Tariq al-Hashemi with murder/and later the killing of Sunni protesters in Ramadi. How did this progress work our for ya? Mr. Biden your "progress" is directly responsible for the chain of events which directly led to the Sunni/ISIS uprising, rise of a Khalifah and establishment of the Caliphate.
Result - Christian genocide, Shia genocide, cold war with the Russians... Mr. Biden - blood is on your hands.

Given how the "thetical" approach has been going lately, I'll take the antithetical, thank you very much.
