Man dies in ‘absolute agony' 10 days after eating gecko on a dare
[NY Post] Dad-of-three David Dowell was always known as a loveable larrikin and a man who would never back down from a dare, but one he took last year ‐ when a friend dared him to eat a gecko at a Christmas party ‐ could be the thing that claimed his life.

Friends and family are still searching for answers six months after Dowell was dared to eat the lizard.

Dowell, who would’ve turned 35 last week, was rushed to Brisbane’s Mater Hospital in "absolute agony" on December 3, two days after friends reportedly saw him eat the gecko at the Saturday night party.
Here ye bastids, hold my beer !
Dowell’s partner of 15 years Allira begged the paramedics to take him to hospital after they believed he just had a bad bout of gastro or a severe hangover.

In an interview with 7 News, Allira said her partner’s death was a "big shock."

"We never thought this would happen, it was just a big shock and it still is a big shock" she said.

Lee Iacocca, creator of Ford Mustang and former CEO of Chrysler, has died at 94
[CBS] Lee Iacocca, who created the iconic Ford Mustang and later in his career rescued Chrysler from bankruptcy, has died, his foundation and Ford Motor Company confirmed on Tuesday. He was 94.

Iacocca's daughter told The Washington Post the cause of death was complications from Parkinson's disease.

"Lee Iacocca was truly bigger than life and he left an indelible mark on Ford, the auto industry and our country," said Ford executive chariman Bill Ford. "Lee played a central role in the creation of Mustang. On a personal note, I will always appreciate how encouraging to me at the beginning of my career. He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed."

Body Of Frozen Stowaway On Airplane Falls 3,500 Feet And Almost Lands On Sunbather
[DAILYWIRE] John Baldock got lucky. Very lucky.

Baldock, who has a master's degree in engineering from Oxford University, was just chilling in the garden of a $3 million home outside London when he heard a thud.

"There was an almighty bang. At first I thought it was some scaffolding falling down and thought nothing more about it," one of Baldock's neighbors told the Daily Mail.

But it wasn't. It was the sound of a frozen body hitting the ground after falling from 3,500 feet.

"The corpse fell to the ground as the nine-hour flight from Nairobi approached London Heathrow Airport and opened its landing gear on Sunday afternoon," the Mail wrote.

Police later said the victim was likely a stowaway who had hidden inside the landing gear of a Kenya Airways flight that landed at Heathrow, about 10 miles from the house where his body was found. Upon inspection, food and drinking water was found within the wheel well.

The body created a huge crater in the lawn and smashed two concrete paving slabs.

Baldock was "very shaken" by the incident, the Mail said, noting that there was "blood all over the walls of the garden."

CDC: The Cryptosporidium parasite is not your friend
(WWJ) Consider this before you dive into a public pool or hit the slides at the water park: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the water may be contaminated.
Public Pools: the FIRST gender neutral bathrooms
According to Michele Hlavsa with the CDC, there's concern this season about a particular parasite called cryptosporidium, or crypto for short, which causes diarrhea that can last up to three weeks in otherwise healthy people.

Crypto is tough, and resistant to chlorine.

"At chlorine levels the CDC recommends for pools, most germs are killed within minutes," Hlavsa told WWJ's Dr. Deanna Lites. "Cryptosporidium can survive for seven or more days,"

So how does crypto get into the water?

"Unfortunately, we swimmers bring it into the water," Hlavsa said. "If we have diarrhea and we have a diarrheal incident in the water, we contaminate the water. And other swimmers can swallow that water and become sick themselves."

The bottom line: Don't go swimming if you have diarrhea and don't let your child go into a pool if he or she has it. Try not to swallow water while swimming and check a public pool's inspection score before you go swimming.

Grubhub CEO denies service set up restaurant sites without permission
[NYPOST] Grubhub’s chief executive on Tuesday denied that the company set up thousands of Web sites to take orders for restaurants without their permission ‐ saying Grubhub’s contracts gave it the right to do it.

As reported by The Post, the owner of the Seamless food-ordering service has built more than 30,000 Web sites to take orders from restaurants nationwide, with many eateries saying the sites were built without their knowledge.

Some restaurateurs say they were blindsided by the emergence of the Grubhub-built sites, complaining that they often rank higher in Google searches and charge higher prices than their own sites as they tack on Grubhub fees.

Nevertheless, Grubhub CEO Matt Maloney said the restaurants shouldn’t have been surprised.

"We had a clear provision in every one of our restaurant contracts saying we would provide this service to give them more orders," Maloney told restaurants in a Tuesday morning e-mail blast.

Maloney likewise insisted that Grubhub will immediately hand restaurants their domain name at any time, "No questions asked."

Earlier this week, the owner of Brooklyn restaurant Abracadabra Magic told The Post that when he tried to get the domain name for his restaurant from Grubhub, he eventually gave up because the process was so complicated.

Britain
Brexit Leader Farage: We Must End ‘Globalist Drive' to Outsource People's Sovereignty to Elites
[Breitbart] Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has said that patriots must end the "globalist drive" to outsource decision-making to supranational bodies like the EU, warning that the elites want to see the nation-state "dissolved".

Speaking to American conservative activist Candace Owens in a PragerU interview aired Sunday, Mr Farage explained that Brexit was a "fightback" against European institutions determining Britons’ future for them, with the United Kingdom battling to become a "normal nation" again ‐ one that is the master of its own destiny.

"Brexit is saying: ’We want to govern our own country, we want to make our own laws, we want to live in democracy, and we want the people who make the decisions who affect our lives to be directly accountable to us.’ We want to be able to sack them at the next election. With the European Commission, you can’t do that," Mr Farage explained on The Candace Owens Show.

The Brexit campaigner observed that across Europe ‐ notably in Hungary and Italy ‐ there has been a resurgence of conservativism and pro-democracy movements, and expressed a hope that, post-Brexit, the United Kingdom and European nations could trade and co-operate freely as "neighbours" and "friends" in a relationship between fellow sovereign nations.

However, he also warned that "We’ve got to end this globalist drive to give away the ability to determine our own futures. The whole thing’s effectively bought and paid for by a handful of giant multinational companies, one or two very rich individuals. and they basically would like to see the nation-state almost be dissolved.

"It’s why in many ways the Trump victory was so important, because Hillary Clinton was completely sold on this European [project]," he added.

"The European Union agenda is basically a prototype for a bigger form of global government and co-operation. [Clinton] actually said to her friends in Wall Street that she wanted America to join a ’hemispheric common market’... because she is a globalist."

#2  Here you see the difference between marketing people and engineers. Both of them say "What a great idea! What could possibly go wrong?"

For marketeers, "What could possibly go wrong?" means "Let's do it!"
For engineers, pedantic and literal nerds that they are, "What could possibly go wrong?" means exactly that - how will this break, malfunction, or be abused?

We also note that Marketing tends to be higher up the corporate food chain than Engineering, and so hilarity ensues.

#3  Per Wikipedia, Adi Dassler, Adidas's founder, was "an ardent Nazi."

Wiki:
... The second key factor for the shoe firm in the early 1930s was the role sport played in the racial-nationalist philosophy of Hitler. With the rise of the Nazi Party, athletic teamwork was prioritized. The Dassler brothers did not fail to see how their economic interest would benefit from politics; all three Dassler brother joined the Nazi Party on 1 May 1933—three months after Hitler was appointed Chancellor.[16] Rudolf was said to be most ardent believer of the three.[2] But it was Adi who decided that becoming a coach of and supplier to clubs in the Hitler Youth movement was essential to expanded production, and he joined in 1935.[17]

South Korea's Moon calls Trump-Kim summit end of hostility
[DAWN] South Korea's president on Tuesday called a recent United States-North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
n summit at the Korean border an end of mutual hostility between the countries, despite skepticism by many experts that it's was a just made-for-TV moment that lacked any substance.

During their impromptu third summit at the Korean Demilitarized Zone on Sunday, Trump and Kim reaffirmed their friendships and agreed to resume nuclear talks. Trump's brief stepping across the borderline into North Korea also made him the first sitting US president to set foot in the North's soil. But neither side has still indicated they are any closer to resolving sticking points that collapsed their previous summit.

On Tuesday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in told a Cabinet meeting that the summit in the DMZ meant the two countries declared "an end of hostile relations" and the "start of an era of peace". Moon, who briefly chatted with Trump and Kim on a DMZ village before the US and North Korean leaders sat for a two-way meeting, described their summit as "historic". He also called the summit "the fruits of amazing imagination", saying it was arranged due to Trump's "unprecedented" Twitter offer for a meeting and Kim's "bold" decision to accept it.

Iraq
Iraqi oil revenue falls significantly in June
[Rudaw] Iraq’s oil export revenue tumbled last month, as oil prices continue to fall in a declining global economy ‐ as OPEC attempts to counteract the decline with a nine-month extension of oil output limits.

Revenue fell from $7.38 billion in May to $6.4 billion in June, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Oil’s monthly published statistics. Barrel exports fell nearly 6 percent, from 111 million barrels in May to 105 million in June.

The average price per barrel sold last month was $60.58 ‐ a huge reduction from its $66.68 mark in May.

The decline in revenue comes amid a fall in demand for oil during a global economic decline, as well as soaring oil output from non-OPEC member the United States ‐ now the world’s top oil producer.

Brent Crude Oil had been trading internationally at around $70 per barrel in early May, but fell sharply to under $64 by the end of the month.

Prices did, however, rise to $65 upon news of an OPEC agreement on Monday to extend daily oil output cuts aimed at stabilizing oil prices for another nine months.

The agreement came after a G20 pact made by leading OPEC member Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and Russia, a non-OPEC member but oil supply powerhouse, last weekend.

Iraqi oil minister Thamir Ghadhban told the Iraq Petroleum conference in London last week that Iraq’s current production capacity is 5 million barrels per day (bpd) ‐ far higher than the 3.52 million bpd exported last month - but that the country’s oilfields have yet to reach full production capacity.

"An estimated 2 million more barrels a day are to come from contracted south and central Iraqi oilfields," Ghadhban said, with these oilfields already the source of the vast majority of Iraqi exports.

#1  Half the politicians in Iraq are firmly in iran's pocket and the rest will play footsie with the mullahs at the drop of a turban. They all trade in anti-Americanism. Let them figure out how to eat sand on their own when the oil money runs out.

#3  The word 'longer' appears multiple times in the article without ever actually being quantified. How much longer? One percent longer? A tenth of percent? Something actually significant? No mention. Journalists have to be the least curious mammals on the planet.

Obesity is cited as a reason. Is that a problem in the Special Ops community? If you are going to burn fat instead of glucose, you better have some fat to burn.

#4  A proposal built on research pulled out of a remf's ass. This has nothing to do with raising ability. It is an experiment in control. They are claiming to have means to test who is taking a keto diet and who isn't. That's about control, not performance.

#5  I've never seen a picture of a special operator that needed to lose weight. Isn't that the Keto diet's primary claim to fame?

Perhaps they could start with a line of Keto MREs and see how well that does before they start making rules that will convince our best to leave the service out of disgust.

#6  They probably looked at the BMIs of the special operators. Unfortunately, BMI is a horrible way to measure "obesity". Arnold Schwarzenegger was "obese" - when he was competing for Mr. Universe. Since BMI doesn't differentiate between fat and muscle, it breaks down when you measure the BMI of muscular people. Like special operators.
