Pakistan joins US-led call for Afghan ceasefire, talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Pakistain, which supported Afghanistan’s former Taliban

regime, on Friday joined the United States, Russia and China in a call on the turbans to agree to a ceasefire and negotiations with Kabul.

Pakistain joined the three powers in talks in Beijing that come as the United States moves closer to an agreement with the Taliban to pull troops from Afghanistan and end its longest-ever war.

The four countries "encouraged all parties to take steps to reduce violence leading to a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire that starts with intra-Afghan negotiations," said a joint statement issued by the United States.

They called for direct negotiations involving the Taliban, President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
’s government and other Afghans to "produce a peace framework as soon as possible."

Members of the Taliban and government met earlier this week in Qatar

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, a breakthrough even though participants were said to be there in a personal capacity.

The Taliban, believing they have an upper hand as they seek a US troop withdrawal, have refused to negotiate with the internationally recognized government or to halt its deadly campaign of attacks.

Pakistain, whose relations with the United States have been rocky over its handling of bad boys, has sought to use its influence with the Taliban to help reach a deal.

Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan

, who is impatient to end the war launched after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

US negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad has sought understandings with Russia and China despite the two powers’ rivalries with the United States.

The Soviet Union fought US-backed Islamic guerrillas in a disastrous intervention in the 1980s, while China is keen to prevent any spread of extremism.

IEA sees oil market oversupplied in 2019 on US production
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Surging US oil output will outpace sluggish global demand and lead to a large stocks build around the world in the next nine months, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Friday.

The forecasts appear to predict the need for producer club OPEC and its allies to reduce production to balance the market despite extending their existing pact, forecasting a fall in demand for OPEC crude to only 28 million barrels per day (bpd) in early 2020.

"Market tightness is not an issue for the time being and any rebalancing seems to have moved further into the future," the IEA said in its monthly report.

"Clearly, this presents a major challenge to those who have taken on the task of market management," it added, referring to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and producer allies such as Russia.

The demand for OPEC crude oil in early 2020 could fall to only 28 million bpd, it added, with non-OPEC expansion in 2020 rising by 2.1 million bpd - a full 2 million bpd of which is expected to come from the United States.

At current OPEC output levels of 30 million bpd, the IEA predicted that global oil stocks could rise by 136 million barrels by the end of the first quarter of 2020.

Maintaining its forecasts for oil demand for the rest of 2019 and 2020, the Gay Paree-based agency cited expected improvement in US-China trade relations and US economic growth as encouraging. However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...

#4  It's actually a good thing. Xinjiang I mean. The Chinese are smart, if pig headed. I wish every country had the guts to do this. I wish America had had the guts to do the same after 9/11.

China's Xinjiang policy was not born in a vacuum of experience, or at the table of some good 'ol boys pondering about how to obtain funds from local builders by awarding contracts for contained shelters. It was a response to brutal attacks on a populace their State apparently values. In comparison with China, the response to islamism and in western nations is not worth jack shit.

I don't wish the common citizens of the chinese mainland or those of nearby regions ill the India-China volatility and economic tussles notwithstanding , and am glad they've kept these demons contained.

Knowing what we all know about muslim communities set free and given 'rights' in our lands, I greatly appreciate their policy and wish their other muslim/uighur containment projects Godspeed.

Many in my own govt feel that we should encourage human rights groups and support vociferous mudslinging of the CPC to set free the deadly uighur; then we can wait and watch them suffer like other countries with acute terminal islamosarcoma Neat, eh ?. I refuse to think like that. We cannot wreak havoc on innocent masses just to obtain economic advantage from the destabilization of their State. No, the muslim must be universally contained, converted, or exterminated. It is the only way to protect the liberties of peoples that have persevered, fought and travailed through history to survive up to the current century.

I also think it's hypocritical to whine about China's treatment of uighurs while cheering whenever a sasquatch in Yemen or 10 in Afghanistan go toes up. The uighurs are tribals, ferocious, deadly bastards with their own feral laws and a facade of culture to show the world. They have survived under one of the most repressive regimes in history, only by tact and duplicity. There is a whirlwind of classically islamic angst waiting to be let loose upon unsuspecting, law-abiding, industrious and innocent populations.

The fucking UN and humanist organizations calling for human rights for these prospective serial stabbers, rapists and terrorists have no locus standi in this matter, when they have yet to reach consensus on a simple binary - whether they serve the mandates granted by their own indigenous, law abiding populations or the ingrate criminal masses they allow into their countries. Then they can preach about rights.

Israel's Rafael to sell $100m. worth of Barak 8 missile kits to India
[Jpost] Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems signed a $100 million contract with KRAS (Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd. India), to manufacture and supply 1,000 Barak 8/ MRSAM missile kits for the Indian Army and Air Force.

In keeping with its commitment to Make-in-India, KRAS is a joint venture between Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and Kalyani Strategic Systems.

The joint venture was established with the vision of manufacturing weapon systems required by the Indian Defense Forces, as well as for the export market. KRAS is expected to ramp up its employees to 300 technical experts by 2023.

The MR-SAM system, jointly developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in close collaboration with Israel’s Israel Aircraft Industry (IAI), is a land-based configuration of the long-range surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) or Barak-8 naval air defense system.

Each MR-SAM system includes a command and control system, tracking radar, missiles and mobile launcher systems. The missiles, which can be fired in single or ripple firing modes from a vertical position, are launched in canister configuration, and the launcher will have eight canistered missiles in two stacks.

Brig.-Gen. (res.) EVP Pini Yungman, head of Rafael’s air defense systems division, emphasized KRAS’s commitment to the operational readiness of the Indian army and Indian air force, saying that "we at Rafael are proud of our role ‐ not only in KRAS ‐ but also of our participation in Make-in-India, and our strong relationship with the vibrant talent across India’s defense industries."

"This order is a testimony to the capabilities that exist in the country and how they can be utilized to truly achieve the aim of ’Make-in-India’," said Baba Kalyani, chairman of the Kalyani Group.

Turkey using proxy forces to take complete control over Hama and Idlib: expert
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
is attempting to turn Hama and Idlib into a neverending war zone as the latest bully boy offensives have tried to change the front‐lines in these governorates, Syrian military expert Haytham Hassoun told the Arabic‐language version of Sputnik News on Friday.

"During the past weeks, gangs have been carrying out successive attacks in order to change the lines of contact and control over its geography."

"But after these groups were able to achieve several gains, the Syrian Arab Army contained these attacks and turned them into a battle of attrition against these terrorist groups. The Syrian Army managed to inflict heavy losses among these terrorists," he told Radio Sputnik .

Hassoun said that "overthe past few hours, the Syrian Air Force has begun targeting the headquarters of the leadership and the launching sites of terrorist groups supported by the Ottoman Turkish occupation forces."

"The balance of power is now in the interest of the Syrian Arab Army, but it is about the political goal and what Turkey wants by turning this region into a continuous arena of operations. They seek to control new sites through repeated attacks, especially ones that occurred in the past days in the eastern Latakia countryside."

Zarif accuses Britain of 'childish and laughable' reasoning
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] "The English should officially announce that they are America’s slaves," Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday, adding that Britannia’s reasoning for the seizure of an Iranian tanker last week is "childish and laughable."

and Hezbollah, Zarif again condemned the seizure of an Iranian oil tanker by the British Royal Marines last week. Zarif described Britannia’s reasoning as "childish and laughable" and stated: "The English should officially announce that they are America’s slaves and that they carry out its orders."

Zarif also mocked the British over US President Donald Trump

He emphasised that Iran is ready to deal with any threats from the US.

"We are currently the region’s most powerful country," Zarif claimed.

Zarif said that while Iran does not seek war, any attackers will receive a "strong response."

Zarif voiced his displeasure at US sanctions against Iran, referring to them as "an economic war." He added that the tensions in the region could be ended if the US stops its "economic terrorism" against Iran.

It is a private effort, established by Fred using his own funds and extensive efforts, with additional donations from many Rantburgers. We are guests in Fred’s living room, and those who abuse that hospitality are not welcome.

Herb McCoy was abusive in his first post shortly after midnight, and got worse in each of his posts thereafter. He is entitled to his opinions, certainly. But those opinions he aired in the wee minutes of the day were more suited to a blog of his own, paid for by his own efforts. #9  I can only speculate what set off the kerfuffle in #1, however...

Rantburg may be the only site on the entire interwebs where I make a point of reading all the comments. Most places, comment threads degenerate into name-calling, stale talking-points repeated over and over, and attempts to "own" the other side. Boring! And childish.

Even though I'm really smart and generally right about pretty much everything, I'm willing to entertain alternative and even contradictory theories on current events. Who knows, I might learn something! But I have zero interesting in name-calling, insults and long-discredited talking points.

Comments here are all over the map - insightful analysis, background info from those who know or were there (the infamous Rantburg U!), clever snark, poetry of varying quality, and general silliness. Good stuff! If it takes some moderation to preserve that, then I am most grateful to those doing the work, as well as to our host who makes the whole mess possible. Thanks!

Panama to withdraw flags from more vessels that violate sanctions
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Panama will withdraw its flag from more vessels that violate sanctions and international legislation, the country's maritime authority told Rooters, following the removal of about 60 ships linked to Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. and Syria from the Panamanian registry in recent months.

After the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran by Washington in 2018, Panama's former president Juan Carlos Varela gave the green light to remove a fleet of 59 tankers from the country's registry, according to two sources close to the decision.

Most of those vessels were owned by Iranian state-run companies but they also included ships linked to oil deliveries to Syria, the sources added.

A separate supertanker, the Grace 1, made its way to Gibraltar in early July, where it was seized by British Royal Marines on suspicion of violating sanctions against Syria.

The vessel was fully loaded with crude suspected to be bound for Syria's Banyas refinery, Gibraltar authorities said.

The vessel arrived in Gibraltar showing the Panama name at its hull, but the Panamanian government later clarified it had been removed from its registry on May 29.

"Panama will maintain its flag withdrawal policy," Rafael Cigarruista, general director of Merchant Marine from Panama's Maritime Authority, told Rooters in an emailed statement.

"Our intention is to improve our fleet's percentage of compliance, not only regarding sanctions by international organizations, but also Panama's current legislation and maritime security rules," he added.

Cigarruista did not provide details on coming action or targeted fleets.

The exact process leading up to the July detention of the Grace 1 remains unclear. Spain, which does not recognize Britannia's illusory sovereignty over Gibraltar, said it would study whether Britannia's actions violated its territorial water claims.

Iran called on Britannia on Friday to immediately release the Grace 1 and warned of reciprocal measures after three Iranian vessels on Thursday tried to block a British-owned vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
