Ethiopian security forces arrest 454 terror suspects in capital city
[Garowe] Æthiopia's security and intelligence joint task force said it has apprehended 454 suspects who were allegedly plotting foiled terror attacks in recent days in Addis Ababa, the capital of Æthiopia.

The joint task force, in a statement released Saturday to Æthiopian state media outlets, said it was able to avert major security threats, including planned terrorist attacks in Addis Ababa as a result of coordinated operations that were carried out in recent days.

The joint security and intelligence task force brings together the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Æthiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), the Federal Police Commission, and Information Network Security Administration (INSA).

The detained suspects were said to be affiliated with krazed killer groups of al-Shabaab

(ISIS) as well as other local gangs that were designated as terrorist organizations by the Æthiopian House of People's Representatives.

Earlier in July, Æthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told members of the Æthiopian parliament that dozens of terror suspects had been arrested in recent weeks in the outskirts of Addis Ababa.

The joint task force, commending the public for its valuable role in apprehending the terror suspects, further called on the public to cooperate with security forces to safeguard the city's peace and security.

"Boy, Babooni! Have I got the lark for you! It's so daft it's already a foiled plot."

Europe
Mediterranean ships find 5 dead, rescue over 1,100 migrants
[AlAhram] Italian vessels have recovered five bodies and rescued 674 people packed on a fishing boat adrift in the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast, the Italian Coast Guard said Sunday, while European charities reported saving more than 500 more.

Some of the survivors had to be plucked from the sea in the Italian operation Saturday that was carried out 120 miles (190 kilometers) off the coast of Calabria by a Navy mercantile ship, three Coast Guard patrol boats and a financial police boat.

All of those rescued were brought to ports in Calabria and Sicily.

The causes of death for the five dead were not immediately known.

The Coast Guard said it was just one in a series of rescues in recent days in the Italian search and rescue area of the central Mediterranean, as desperate people fleeing poverty or oppression seek a better life in Europe. In one case, a helicopter was called to evacuate a woman in need of medical treatment from a migrant boat in a precarious condition, the Coast Guard said.

In separate operations, the German charity Sea-Watch said it rescued 444 migrants colonists trying to cross the Mediterranean on overcrowded, rickety smugglers' boats.

The Sea-Watch 3 vessel carried out the five operations over 24 hours, and said the rescued included a pregnant woman and a man who had suffered severe burns.

The charity is asking for permission to bring the rescued people to a safe port, as the rescue ship is unable to accommodate so many people.

In addition, the European charity SOS Mediterannee said its rescue ship Ocean Viking have saved 87 people, including 57 unaccompanied minors, from an overcrowded rubber boat off the Libyan coast. None had life jackets, the charity said.

Migrant arrivals in Italia are up by nearly one-quarter from 2021, with 34,013 recorded through Friday.

While still notably fewer than the 2015 peak year, the crossings remain deadly, with 1,234 people recorded dead or missing at sea by the UN refugee agency this year, 823 of those in the perilous central Mediterranean.
More from Garowe. Some additions, some overlap, but it’s late and I’m not up to doing the math — sorry:
More than a thousand migrants colonists arrived in Italia within a few hours while hundreds of others, rescued by humanitarian vessels, were waiting for a port to receive them, NGOs and authorities said on Sunday.

Between Jan.1 and July 22, 34,000 people arrived in Italia by sea compared with 25,500 during the same period in 2021 and 10,900 in 2020, Italia's interior ministry said.

More than 600 people attempting to cross the Mediterranean on board a drifting fishing vessel were rescued on Saturday by a merchant vessel and coastguards off Calabria, at the southern tip of Italia. They were landed in several ports in Sicily.

The authorities also recovered five bodies of migrants colonists who had died in so far undetermined circumstances.

On the island of Lampedusa, some 522 people from Afghanistan, Pakistain, Sudan, Æthiopia, and Somalia, among others, arrived in the late hours of Saturday in 15 different boats from Tunisia and Libya.

According to the Italian media, the island's reception center has been overwhelmed. With a capacity of 250-300 people, it currently hosts 1,200, according to the Ansa news agency.

Offshore NGOs continued to recover hundreds of migrants colonists in distress in the Mediterranean. SeaWatch reported that it had carried out four rescue operations on Saturday.

"On board SeaWatch3, we have 428 people, including women and kiddies, a woman nine months pregnant and a patient with severe burns," it said on its Twitter account.

OceanViking, operated by the non-governmental organization SOS Mediterranean, reported that it had recovered 87 people, including 57 unaccompanied minors, who were crammed onto "an overcrowded inflatable boat in distress in international waters off Libya."

The Central Mediterranean migration route is the most dangerous in the world. The International organization for Migration estimates that 990 people have died and disappeared since the beginning of the year.

(ISIS) murderous Moslems in Iraq's Diyala province on Thursday after being ambushed.

The victims were all from the same family and were ambushed by a group of six ISIS murderous Moslems after returning from a swim in Lake Hamrin, who stopped their vehicle just outside of Mansuriyah town and opened fire.

"This incident is a terrorist attack. Two of my brothers and our uncle along with their children, one of them was five years old and the other seven years old, were killed," Izzadin Ahmed, the brother of the dear departed told Rudaw's Hunar Hamid.

ISIS grabbed credit for the attack shortly after.

In its propaganda magazine on Thursday, ISIS claimed to have conducted three attacks in Iraq from July 14 to July 20, killing and injuring 13 people.

Palestinian suspected of planning to stab Israelis in West Bank arrested
[IsraelTimes] Soldier fires warning shot into air as suspect approaches him with knife at Tapuah Junction; no injuries reported

A Paleostinian man suspected of planning to stab Israelis at the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank was arrested Sunday night, the military said.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the alleged assailant, armed with a knife, approached a soldier who was "conducting routine security activity" in the area.

The soldier fired warning shots into the air, and the suspect was arrested, the IDF said.

The Paleostinian man was taken for further questioning by the Shin Bet security agency.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

The suspected attempted attack came as tensions remain high in the West Bank, after Israeli security forces stepped up operations following a deadly wave of terror attacks against Israelis earlier this year that left 19 people dead.

At least two Paleostinian button men were killed in an Israeli military raid early Sunday morning in the northern West Bank city of Nablus. Another four suspects were arrested elsewhere in the West Bank overnight, the IDF said.

Jordan king protests border attacks by Iran-tied militias
[Rudaw] King Abdullah II protested in an interview published Sunday over attacks on Jordan's borders by "militias linked to Iran", following deadly festivities with drug smugglers on the frontier with Syria.

Jordan faces "regular attacks on its borders by militias linked to Iran", he told al-Rai newspaper.

Abdullah called for "a change of behaviour by Iran" and said that Jordan "does not want tensions in the region".

"Jordan, like the rest of the Arab countries, seeks good relations with Iran, with mutual respect, good neighbourliness, respect for the illusory sovereignty of other states and non-interference in their affairs," the king said.

Abdullah said that Jordan, like other Arab nations, was being targeted by smugglers of drugs and arms that he said were in transit to Europe.

"Jordan is coordinating with its brothers (Arab countries) to confront this and protect its borders," he said.

The Jordanian army conducts regular anti-smuggling operations on the border with Syria, where Iran-backed fighters support the Damascus regime in a civil war that erupted in 2011.

On January 27, Amman said its forces killed 27 narcos supported by gangs, seizing a large quantity of drugs. An officer and a border guard were killed in a similar clash earlier the same month.

According to organizations which monitor drug trafficking, the increasingly popular amphetamine-style stimulant captagon is produced in government-controlled areas of Syria and marketed almost exclusively in the Middle East.

Israeli Navy sinks Palestinian vessel allegedly smuggling 'equipment' to Hamas
[FoxNews] The Israeli Navy sank a Palestinian fishing vessel allegedly smuggling "equipment" to Hamas terrorists in Gaza on Sunday.

The vessel reportedly ignored multiple hails and commands to stop from Israeli vessels. The two Palestinians aboard the boat swam ashore before it sank, according to The Times of Israel.

"Navy soldiers called via loudspeakers to the vessel, and when it did not respond to the calls, the soldiers fired in accordance with the open-fire policy," the Israel Defense Forces told the Times.

The IDF only stated the vessel was smuggling "equipment."

Footage of the incident circulating on social media shows the fishing vessel smoking as Israeli boats close in.

The incident came the same day a conflict erupted between Israeli Police and Palestinian militants on Sunday. The shootout left two dead and 19 injured, according to officials from Israel and the West Bank. Israeli forces said two armed Palestinians were killed after the hours-long gunfight.
The Times of Israel adds:
According to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces, the vessel set sail overnight from the Sinai Peninsula through the Mediterranean Sea toward Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, entering a prohibited area off the coast of the southern part of the Strip.

An unsourced Ynet news site report said the military believed the boat was transporting ammunition and anti-tank missiles.

Israeli forces kill two Palestinians in overnight Nablus raid
More on this story from yesterday.
[MiddleEastEye] Israeli forces killed two Paleostinians during an overnight raid on Sunday in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, the Paleostinian health ministry has said.

Israeli forces stormed the al-Yasmina neighbourhood of the Old City of Nablus to make an arrest shortly after midnight, and cordoned off a house and bombarded it with explosives and gunfire, according to the Wafa news agency.

A group of armed Paleostinians barricaded themselves inside a house and responded to the raid with fire, leading to heavy shootouts that lasted for three hours.

Muhammad Azizi, 25, was killed by a bullet to the chest, and Abdul Rahman Jamal Suleiman Sobh, 28, died after being shot in the head, according to the health ministry.

At least 19 people were maimed during the raid, including 10 hit by live fire, the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy said.

Thousands of mourners took the bodies of two slain Paleostinian men to their final resting place in the morning.

Among them was Ibrahim al-Nablusi, the Paleostinian fighter Israeli forces sought but failed to arrest in the operation.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian media: Israeli spy cell caught laying bombs at ‘sensitive site’ in Isfahan
[IsraelTimes] Regime-affiliated outlet claims Mossad-directed network was busted hours before detonating the explosives; accusation comes as IRGC rocket scientist is reportedly ’martyred’

An alleged Israeli spy network was caught by Iranian authorities while laying explosives at a "very sensitive" site in the Isfahan Province, hours before planning to detonate them, an Iranian regime-affiliated outlet claimed Sunday.

The claim came a day after the Islamic Theocratic Republic claimed to have stopped the Israeli spy network, arresting agents who had tried to carry out sabotage and "terrorist operations" with the help of state-of-the-art technology.

"All of them were captured," it said, "and their weapons, explosives, technical and communications equipment were entirely discovered and confiscated."

Nour News, a website linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, published new details Sunday, claiming that the cell entered Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
months ago from Iraqi Kurdistan, after being trained in Africa under the guidance of the Israeli Mossad spy agency.

According to the report, the members of the network were arrested as "high-kabooms were planted" at the targeted site, only a few hours before the "final stage of their terrorist operation."

The report said the location was a "very sensitive" site in Isfahan Province. Some Israeli outlets noted that the province is home to the Natanz nuclear plant, which has been targeted in attacks blamed by Tehran on Israel.

Nour News said more details about the network and the arrests would be published soon.

Tehran hasn’t said how many suspects were arrested or given their nationalities, nor has it identified the targets of the purported plots.

unconfirmed reports were circulating in Iranian social media of the death of a Revolutionary Guards rocket scientist, the latest in a string of mysterious deaths of officials taking part in Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

According to Israeli media, posters in memory of Said Thamardar Mutlak were published primarily in pages affiliated with Iran’s opposition. Some reports called him a "martyr," and some said he had been assassinated, likely by "external elements."

Some reports even claimed Iranian authorities had threatened the scientist’s parents not to publicize his death.

Alleged Turkish bombardment kills Syrian army soldier in Hasaka
[Rudaw] An alleged Ottoman Turkish shelling in Hasaka province on Sunday killed a member of the Syrian government forces and injured several others, local media reported following renewed calls from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
to launch an offensive on northern Syria.

The suspected Ottoman Turkish bombardment targeted the center of Zirgan district in Hasaka, killing a Syrian army soldier and injuring four others, including two children aged five and seven, according to Hawar News Agency (ANHA).

The attack comes following renewed calls by Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than there are in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really most important...
to launch an operation in northern Syria aimed at expelling Kurdish fighters of the People's Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers to be the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Another suspected Ottoman Turkish bombardment in the Sherawa sub-district of Afrin on Sunday injured two Syrian army soldiers, ANHA reported.

On Friday, an alleged Ottoman Turkish drone killed three unidentified people near a residential area in Hasaka province, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) noting that the drone attack was the fourth in the region in two days.

Ankara has carried out two major military operations against Kurdish forces in Syria since 2018, and Erdogan in recent months has threatened to carry out a new offensive in Manbij and Tal Rifaat in Syria's north. Kurdish forces said that they have taken the threats seriously and begun making preparations.

Turkey said on Thursday that its cross-border operations southward into Syria will continue.

A recent trilateral summit in Tehran did not give Erdogan the green light to carry out its offensive, with Iranian Lord High Potentate and Supreme Leader of All He Surveys Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
calling Ankara's planned offensive "detrimental" to both Syria and Turkey and saying it "will not achieve the expected political results from the Syrian government."

French President Emmanuel Macron also opposed a potential northern Syria offensive by Turkey and supported Iran's stance against the attack in a Saturday phone call with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian state media reported.

Attack on Syria church gathering kills 2: state media
[AlAhram] Two people were killed and 12 injured Sunday by bombardment of a church as it was being inaugurated in Syria's central province of Hama, the official SANA news agency reported.

"A rocket fired by terrorist organizations targeted a religious gathering in the town of al-Suqaylabiyah near Hama, killing two people and wounding 12," it said.

SANA said the attack came during a ceremony to inaugurate the Ayia Sofia church.

Britannia-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has a vast network of sources on the ground, confirmed the attack.

Giving a toll of one civilian killed and several maimed, the Observatory said shelling or a drone attack by nearby rebel groups could be to blame.

Sunday's attack came two days after bombardment killed seven people including four children in the rebel-held Idlib region. The Observatory said Friday's fatalities in the Jisr al-Shughur countryside of northern Syria were caused by Russian air strikes.

Around half of Idlib province as well as parts of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia provinces are controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

brokered a truce in Idlib and neighbouring areas that still holds, despite sporadic attacks from both sides, including Russian air strikes.
If sporadic is defined as daily, that statement is true.
Syria's war began in 2011 and has killed nearly half a million people and forced around half of the country's pre-war population from their homes.

Front) leaders’ statements regarding forming military groups to deploy them on the front lines with Syrian government forces in northwest Syria come in tandem with their announcement of preparation to launch a military operation against the government forces.

The HTS controls most of Idlib and parts of Hama, Aleppo and Latakia countryside, after expelling other armed opposition factions three years ago.

Foe months, Syria’s northwest has been witnessing a military escalation and mutual shelling between the HTS and the government forces despite the fact that these areas are subject to the de-escalation zone agreement signed between Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
in March 2020.

In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.

Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), and Ottoman Turkish forces escalated their shelling on the military posts of the government forces in the countryside of Hama, Aleppo, Latakia, and Idlib.

The escalation came after Russian warplanes targeted the houses of residents on the outskirts of the villages of al-Jadida, north of the city of Jisr al-Shughur, which caused the killing of seven civilians, including children.

Media outlets quoted a leader in HTS, on Saturday, saying that the HTS is ready to receive people to form Inghimasis Brigade.

Abu Bakr al-Homsi, a leader of the HTS, said that this move "will include all military formations" adding that the new formation which was launched at the beginning of this year, is named Khalid Ibn al-Walid Brigade.

"The brigade will be deployed on most defense and attack posts in the front lines," he told al-Modon website.

Early in July, an SNA source uncovered its preparation to launch a military operation against the government forces in Idlib and Aleppo countryside.

A military source of the SNA told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which consists of several armed factions on top of them is the HTS, Army of Glory, and the National Front for Liberation, are preparing their bully boyz to launch a new military operation against the government forces.

The operation is expected to start from the western countryside of Aleppo, from Miznaz town in the south to Sheikh Aqil Mountain in the north. This area is being deployed by the bully boyz of Iranian-backed militias. The operation will also include areas in the south and east of Idlib, according to the source.

Iranian IRGC senior missile engineer killed - report
[JPost] Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps engineer Said Thamardar Mutlak was described by social media posts as having been made a shahid.

An Iranian senior missile engineer died in southern Iran several days ago, according to a report by an Iranian dissident group published on Saturday night.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps engineer Said Thamardar Mutlak was described in alleged funeral announcements shared by the National Iranian Congress as having been made a shahid (martyr) and murdered in Shiraz. The report stated that Iranian authorities did not want news of the death to be published, and that Mutlak’s family had been threatened not to share the news.

"Cowardly assassination of heroes of our scientific prowess didn’t help behind-the-curtain terrorists to achieve their goals," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani wrote online on Saturday night, although it was unclear if he was responding to specific assassinations or remarking on the ongoing discussions over the JCPOA nuclear deal.

"Peaceful nuclear industry of Iran owes its flourishing to [Dariush] Rezaeinejad & his fellows," he continued. "Their blood & scientific accomplishments will be safeguarded."
