Taliban Attacks on Herat City Pushed Back: Officials
[ToloNews] At least seven attacks by Taliban

on the city of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
were pushed back by the security forces on Wednesday night, the provincial governor Abdul Saboor Qani said.

Taliban launched attacks on districts 2, 3, 10 and 11 of Herat city on Wednesday night, Qani said, adding that "Wahid Ahmad Kohistan
...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns....
i, police chief for Herat's District 10 and two security force members were killed in last night's festivities."

There are no reports on civilians’ casualties so far.

Qani said that the Air Force also conducted Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in the city on in which "more than 100 Taliban were killed and dozens of others were maimed."

"These Taliban members were killed when they wanted to enter the city," he said.

Taliban has not commented on their casualties.

On Thursday, Herat festivities entered 9th day.

Mohammad Ismail Khan, former mujahedeen leader who is now leading the fight against the Taliban in Herat along with scores of public resistance forces, said on Wednesday that "the war in Herat city is being led by Pakistain."

He urged the residents of Herat city to rise up against the "clear aggression" of Pakistain, saying: "I want to make it clear that the war in Herat is a war between Pakistain and Afghanistan."

"This is not the Taliban’s war and the Taliban is a tool. Just as the Afghan people did not accept the dominance of the United States, Russia and other superpowers, they should not accept Pak dominance either."

A number of security force members who are battling the Taliban on the frontlines pledged to not allow the Taliban to enter the city.

s and ground operations move forward, warning that the Taliban are "using civilian homes" as fighting positions.

The operation began on Wednesday night after hundreds of Afghan commandos and special forces were deployed to Helmand on Tuesday, according to officials.

Alizai said the Taliban’s designated governor for Helmand was killed in the fight with security forces, but the Taliban denied this claim.

"The Taliban has suffered heavy casualties in the Helmand festivities," he said.

Thursday marks the ninth day of fighting in Lashkargah.

Airstrikes in several parts of Lashkargah were carried out on Wednesday night, according to security forces.

There have been no numbers available since Wednesday night of casualties sustained by government forces or of civilians.

Out of 10 districts in Lashkargah, nine have been captured by the Taliban in the recent fighting. Twelve of the 13 districts in Helmand are controlled by the Taliban. Only Kajaki district remains under government control.

At least 30 people, including members of the military, were killed by jihadi rebels in northern Burkina Faso, the government said Thursday.

Eleven civilians, 15 soldiers, and four volunteer defense fighters, were killed by ``terrorists'' in several villages outside the town of Markoye in Oudalan province near the border with Niger on Wednesday, Aime Barthelemy Simpore, assistant to the minister of defense, said in a statement.

The non-combatants were killed at midday and the military and volunteers were ambushed four hours later after being detached to secure the area, the government said. At least 10 jihadi rebels were killed and the area has been secured by the army, with air and ground patrols conducting sweeps.

The town of Gorom Gorom, approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Markoye, has been inundated with people fleeing the attack amid fear that the violence was going to spread, an aid worker in the area told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. He insisted on anonymity for his safety.

Violence linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State is increasing in Burkina Faso, killing thousands and displacing 1.3 million people. In June, at least 11 coppers were killed when their patrol was ambushed in the north and earlier that month at least 160 non-combatants were killed in the Sahel region

This week's violence comes on the heels of a deadly attack in neighboring Niger along the border with Burkina Faso less than a week ago, where jihadis killed at least 19 people, 18 of whom were members of the military.

The escalating holy warrior violence will be difficult to bring under control, according to conflict analysts.

``International and regional efforts to combat militancy face serious challenges in keeping Lions of Islam at bay,'' said Heni Nsaibia, senior researcher at the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project.

24 Chadian troops killed, several injured in suspected jihadist attack
[AlAhram] Twenty-four Chadian soldiers were killed in an attack by jihadist fighters in the troubled Lake Chad region, a senior local official said Thursday.

"Troops from a returning patrol were resting when they were attacked by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
" on Wednesday, the region's deputy prefect, Haki Djiddi, told AFP.

"Twenty-four troops were killed, several were maimed and others have scattered into the countryside."

Army front man General Azem Bermandoa Agouna confirmed that an attack had taken place at Tchoukou Telia, an island 190 kilometres (118 miles) northwest of the capital N'Djamena, but refused to give any toll.

Troops from "three army sectors have joined the soldiers who came under attack yesterday," Mahamat Fodoul Makay, the governor of Lake province, told AFP.

West Africa Province (ISWAP), have been using the region for years as a haven from which to attack troops and civilians.

The Chadian authorities tend to call the jihadists "Boko Haram" regardless of their affiliation.

In March 2020, around 100 Chadian troops were killed in an overnight attack on the lake's Bohoma peninsula, prompting an offensive the following month led by Chad's then president, Idriss Deby Itno.

After pursing the turbans deep into Niger and Nigeria, Deby said there was "not a single jihadist anywhere" on the Chadian side of the lake region.

Attacks have continued, however.

In July, 11 Cameroonian troops and a civilian were killed in two attacks in Cameroon's Far North region, the tongue of land that lies between Chad to the east and Nigeria to the west.

Deby was killed in April 2021 during fighting against rebels in northern Chad and was succeeded by his son, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, at the head of a military junta.

Boko Haram launched a revolt in northern Nigeria in 2009 before extending its campaign into neighbouring countries.

According to UN figures, more than 36,000 people, most of them in Nigeria, have died and three million have fled their homes.

In 2016, Boko Haram split over its indiscriminate targeting of Moslem civilians and use of women jacket wallahs.

Boko Haram said in June that its leader, Abubakar Shekau

Germany arrests alleged Syrian war criminal
[DW] A 54-year-old Syrian man in Berlin is accused of firing a grenade in Damascus in 2014, killing at least seven people. German prosecutors have pursued several war crimes cases.

German police on Wednesday arrested a Syrian man in Berlin for alleged war crimes in Damascus.

Authorities in Germany have investigated several similar cases as Syrian refugees seek justice for war crimes they witnessed in their home country. t

German prosecutors accused the suspect, 54, of having fired a grenade into a crowd of civilians gathered on a square in 2014.

The blast killed at least seven people and injured three, including a 6-year-old child.

"The accused is strongly suspected of having committed war crimes. In connection with this, he is also charged with seven counts of murder and three counts of grievous bodily harm," prosecutors said.

PFLP-GC was tasked by the Syrian regime with controlling the southern Damascus neighborhood of Yarmuk, which emerged from a Paleostinian refugee camp.

The group were found inside a large truck, including women and young children, Rooters reported.

Concerns over a potential new influx of migrants colonists into Turkey from Afghanistan, via Iran, have grown in recent weeks amid an unprecedented surge in violence.

The UN refugee agency estimates 270,000 Afghans have been displaced inside the country since January, bringing the number of people forced from their homes to more than 3.5 million.

...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
This was revealed during the raids conducted by the NIA at five locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Karnataka. The NIA also arrested four operatives of the ISIS Kerala module.

The raids were conducted 3 locations in Kashmir and 1 each in Bengaluru and Mangalore.

NIA had registered a suo-moto case against 07 known and other unknown accused persons pertaining to terrorist activities of one Mohammed Ameen from Kerala and his associates, who have been running various ISIS propaganda channels on different social media platforms such as Telegram, Hoop and Instagram for propagating the violent mostly peaceful Jihadi ideology of ISIS and radicalising and recruiting new members for the ISIS module.

During investigation, it has been revealed that after the decline of ISIS Caliphate in Syria/Iraq, Mohd. Ameen had visited Kashmir in March, 2020 for Hijrah (Religious migration) and for engaging in terrorist acts and had also raised funds in association with Kashmir based accused Mohammad Waqar Lone.

As part of conspiracy, funds were also transferred to Lone by accused in the case through banking channels and digital payment methods on the directions of Mohd. Ameen. Mohd. Ameen and his associates were also radicalising gullible Moslem youths for joining Jihad and unlawful activities in India and had been successful in expanding the network in Kashmir and part of Kerala and Karnataka.

The searches were conducted at the premises of accused/suspects who were continuously in touch with Mohammed Ameen and his associates through various groups/channels on encrypted chat platforms and had raised funds for furtherance of activities of ISIS. During searches, several digital devices including Laptops, Mobile phones, Hard Disk Drives, Pen Drives, multiple SIM cards of different service providers and incriminating documents were seized.

The NIA took into custody Obaid Hamid, Muzammil Hassan Bhat, Ammar Abdul Rahman, Shankar and Venkatesh Perumal. They were involved in raising funds and radicalising and motivating more people to join ISIS.

Iraq
Terror attacks damage 13 electricity towers: Iraqi ministry
[Rudaw] Attacks on power lines damaged 13 electricity towers in three provinces in the past 48 hours, Iraq’s electricity ministry said on Thursday.
"Mo didn't have DC or AC!"
"Terrorist acts targeting power transmission lines in Salahaddin, Kirkuk and Nineveh governorates caused damage to 13 towers within 48 hours," the ministry stated.

A Kirkuk power line was targeted with bombs on Wednesday evening, damaging five towers and cutting off electricity transmission between Kirkuk and Nineveh provinces. The ministry also reported attacks in Samarra and Tikrit
...birthplace of Saddam Hussein...
"It seems that the subversive terrorist elements have gone too far by targeting power transmission lines, aimed at stopping the projects of the Ministry of Electricity and shutting down the national system and separating the provinces from each other, which is an obvious plot and will be resolutely addressed as subversives are not tolerated," the ministry said.

Iraq suffers from chronic electricity shortages, especially felt when summer temperatures reach over 50 degrees Celsius. This is caused by multiple factors, including poor government delivery of services, rampant corruption, terror attacks on the power grid, and Iran’s recent cuts of electricity and gas exports because of unpaid bills.

Attacks earlier this summer on electricity pylons contributed to a blackout that left millions in central and southern Iraq without power during a heat wave.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (ISIS) has claimed dozens of attacks on Iraq’s electricity grid and threatened other vital infrastructure and Iraqi security forces said they thwarted several other attempts.

"ISIS terrorist organization seeks to create panic through targeting these power lines," spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command, Major-General Tahsin al-Khafaji, said on July 4.

Khafaji added that a joint operations cell between security forces and the electricity ministry had been formed to strategize how to protect the power lines. A force drawing from the army, police, and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF or Hashd al-Shaabi) has also been formed to protect the grid.

"ISIS probably views infrastructure as a soft target; the attacks require minimal resources and personnel, but the resulting electricity disruptions garner attention and undermine the Iraqi government," the United States Pentagon said in its latest report on operations against ISIS, released this week.

During a visit to the electricity ministry in July, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said there is no quick solution to electricity shortages.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah fires rockets into Israel from Lebanon; Israel responds, as do the Druze
Idiots.
[Jpost] The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted 10 rockets, with 6 falling in open areas The others fell inside Lebanon.

A heavy barrage of close to 20 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Friday, activating the Iron Dome and setting off sirens throughout the area.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks, saying that “at 11.15AM the Islamic Resistance responded to the Israeli aggression by targeting the vicinity of Israeli enemy posts in Shebaa Farms with dozens of rockets fired from woodlands that are far from residential areas.”

The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted 10 rockets, with 6 falling in open areas near Har Dov on the Lebanese border. The others fell inside Lebanon.

Incoming rocket sirens were activated in northern Israeli communities bordering the Lebanese and Syrian borders including Ein Quiniyye, Neveh Ativ and Snir, near Israel’s northern border with Lebanon and Syria.

There were no injuries or casualties.

The IDF initially responded with artillery fire toward the Mount Dov - Shebaa Farms - area in Lebanon, from where the rocket fire originated.

IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ran Kohav told reporters that Hezbollah deliberately fired to open areas and not towards civilians.

“If Hezbollah wanted to carry out a significant response, they have the ability to do so,” he said.

“We have no interest in escalation but we will continue to work to ensure that the northern border does not become a line of confrontation,” he said. “No side wants war, but on the other hand we will not accept that this continues; that every two to three weeks there is firing towards the north.”

According to Kohav, the Lebanese Armed Forces caught the mobile multi-barreled rocket launcher and the Hezbollah fighters who carried out the attack. Videos released on social media showed at least two Hezbollah operatives being violently forced into a car by Druze villagers in the town of Shwayya after they were stopped.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett convened an emergency gathering of senior officials at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv including Defense Minister Benny Gantz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi and others to discuss Israel's options.

Gantz also held a situational assessment at the Kirya along with Kohavi, Head of the IDF’s Operations Directorate Maj.-Gen. Oded Basiuk and Head of the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate Maj.-Gen. Tamir Heyman in order to determine the defense establishment’s operations.

It was the sixth such attack in recent months, and the first where Hezbollah said it was behind.

According to a statement released by the group, the barrage was fired in response to the Israel Air Force airstrikes carried out early Thursday morning after Palestinian militants fired three rockets towards the northern city of Kiryat Shemona on Wednesday.

The IDF had initially retaliated Wednesday by firing some 100 artillery shells towards the launch sites and later carried out airstrikes. The strikes targeted the areas from which the rockets were fired as well as other locations where rockets had been fired in the past. The IAF also struck additional infrastructure used for terrorism, a statment released by the military at the time said.

According to Kohav, “Hezbollah has tried to show that it is responding to these attacks” and that the group has “no choice but to respond” to Israeli strikes.

Gantz later spoke to his American counterpart, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and said that while it is still offering humanitarian aid to Lebanon the country is also prepared for any scenario. The call, which was scheduled prior to the rocket attack by Hezbollah on northern Israel earlier today, focused on Iranian aggression in the region including the deadly drone attack on the Mercer Street that left two men dead.

Gantz spoke to Austin about the recent rounds of rocket fire and told him that Israel’s defense establishment “is prepared for any scenario and will continue to operate against Hezbollah or any of its proxies in order to defend Israeli citizens.”

And though Israel is prepared to provide Lebanon with humanitarian aid through the international community or from Israel territory, “due to the volatile situation in Lebanon, Israel is asking the international community and the US, in particular, to demand from the Lebanese government and end to rocket launches at Israel.”

A senior defense official said that the IDF has been carrying out “extensive” strikes in Lebanon against infrastructure used by terror groups by artillery fire and airstrikes, something that “has not been the case for years.”

According to the official, the defense establishment is preparing options for additional responses by “various means, both overt and covert, depending on further developments.”

“The continuation of [Israeli] operations will be in accordance with the operational needs, and when it is convenient for Israel,” he said.

On Friday Instructions were sent to the residents of Kiryat Shmona, stating that shelters that opened on Tuesday following rocket fire from previous days will remain open over the weekend to give residents a sense of security. Mayor Avihay Shtern and the Municipal Chief of Staff Dekel Arieh are in continuous contact with military officials.
Al Ahram adds:
Manar TV of Hezbollah says Israeli warplanes are flying at low-altitude over southeast Lebanon.
An Nahar adds:
Hizbullah, which in recent years has been fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the neighboring country's civil war, named Friday's operation after two of its fighters who were killed by Israeli fire.

Ali Mohsen was killed in July last year in an Israeli airstrike near the Syrian capital Damascus. Mohammed Tahhan was shot dead by Israeli troops along the Lebanon-Israel border in May during a protest in support of Gaza during this year's Israel-Hamas war.

Israel has long considered Hizbullah its most serious and immediate military threat. It estimates the group possesses over 130,000 rockets and missiles capable of striking anywhere in Israel. In recent years, it also has expressed concerns that the group is trying to import or develop an arsenal of precision-guided missiles.
Another An Nahar article adds:
Hizbullah said in a statement Friday that a number of citizens intercepted Hizbullah fighters in Shwaya.
...also spelt Chouya, which is in the Hasbaya region near the Golan Heights. Hasbaya is Druze country, and the seat of the local branch of the Banu Shihab (spelt locally Chehab) since they took the Crusader castle in the 12th century...
at 11:15 a.m. after they had targeted Shebaa Farms with rockets, in a response to Israel’s previous attacks.

A video widely shared on social media showed angry villagers blocking the truck's passage and accusing Hizbullah of endangering civilian lives by launching rockets from close to residential areas.

Hizbullah responded that they had targeted open areas “in order to preserve the security of citizens.”
A patent untruth. Because if they’d only targetted open areas, Iron Dome would not have been triggered to respond to the majority of the rockets. The alternative being that Hezbollah has the aiming skills of a five year old...
The statement stressed that “Hizbullah has been and will remain keen on protecting its people and not to expose them to any harm during its resistance work.”

A force from the Lebanese army and army intelligence agents later arrived in Hasbaya, and confiscated the truck carrying the rocket launcher.

The truck was carrying 32 rockets, 21 of which were fired into the occupied Shebaa Farms and the Golan Heights, media reports said.
The Times of Israel has videos of the Druze villagers stopping the Hezbollah rocket launcher truck and dragging Hezbollah men out of it. Skidmark gives us more videos from the Jerusalem Post, with an explanation of the political situation in that corner of Lebanon.
Update from the Times of Israel at 1:25 p.m. ET:
Witnesses reported artillery fire by Israeli forces on the Lebanese side of Shebaa Farms and outside the town of Kfar Shouba.
The Sunni Muslim village of Kfar Shouba — which has several alternative spellings — has been a frequent target of Israeli ire since 1972, resulting in 90% of the population having fled Lebanon altogether.

German-Iranian activist sentenced to 10 years in Iranian jail, daughter says
[IsraelTimes] Nahid Taghavi, 66, a human rights activist, was given 10 years for membership in an illegal group.

A German-Iranian woman held in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been given a decade-long jail term by an Iran court for participating in an outlawed group, her daughter said Wednesday.

Nahid Taghavi, 66, was given "10 years for membership in an illegal group" and "eight months for propaganda against the regime," said her daughter, Mariam Claren.

Taghavi was arrested at her Tehran apartment on October 16 after years of fighting for human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
in Iran, in particular for women’s rights and freedom of expression, according to the rights group IGFM.

According to Claren, Taghavi has been held in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, where she contracted Covid-19 last month.

Claren has repeatedly flagged up warnings about her mother’s health, saying that she suffers from pre-existing conditions including high blood pressure and diabetes.

Germany’s Foreign Ministry said in October that it was aware of the arrest of a German-Iranian woman in Iran, but did not name the detained citizen.

Crew of tanker off UAE coast said to thwart Iran hijacking by sabotaging engines
After action report.
[IsraelTimes] Five or six button men seeking to divert Panama-flagged asphalt tanker to Islamic Theocratic Republic managed to flee after US and Omani warships arrived at scene; none of crew on board injured.

The crew of a Panama-flagged asphalt tanker off the coast of Oman reportedly managed to thwart an attempt by Iranian button men to take control of their ship and divert it to the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
Well done, guys!
Five or six Iranian operatives stormed the Asphalt Princess on Tuesday, but the crew onboard quickly sprung to action and sabotaged the ship’s engines so that it could not move any further, UK officials told British daily The Times on Wednesday.
