Rochester, NY Police Chief La'Ron Singletary said in a surprise announcement on Tuesday that he will be retiring at the age of 40 after less than 18 months on the job, after controversy erupted over the March death of a black man while in police custody.
His deputy and the city's entire command staff joined him in leaving, according to ABC News and Bloomberg.
Speaking via Zoom, Mayor Lovely Warren confirmed the moves, adding "The Chief was not asked to give his resignation."
When asked who would be in charge of the police department this evening in the event of new protests, Warren said she didn’t know and asked for the briefing to be adjourned so that a replacement could be found. As of Sunday, a total of 37 people had been arrested and eight police officers hospitalized amid the unrest. -Bloomberg
Singletary came under fire following news of the death of Daniel Prude, a mentally ill black man who died of asphyxiation after police attempted to take him into protective custody in March - two months before the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, yet the incident didn't become public until last week, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
Prude, 41, had been suffering from a mental health episode and was running naked throughout the streets. Once officers caught him, a 'spit hood' was placed over his head after he began spitting. He was then held face down on the pavement for just over two minutes, after which he stopped breathing. Prude was pronounced DOA to the hospital from asphyxia....
In a Tuesday statement, Chief Singletary said in part: "As a man of integrity, I will not sit idly by while outside entities attempt to destroy my character," adding "The events over the past week are an attempt to destroy my character and integrity."...

Renee had a very unique approach to protests after rioting damaged stores. She would allow protestors to protest but they had to march through downtown, on Saturday or Sunday when no one was around in downtown, and they had to do their protest march along a series of desolate streets and allies that also had no traffic or people. And the protest march would be escorted by a huge number of police vehicles with the first police vehicle behind the marchers was an unventilated paddy wagon ready to load up the protestors if they got one step out of line.
Witnessing this brilliance of Chief Renee's part was very impressive to me.

"Information now disclosed appears to confirm that Abdullah was transported in his car a distance of more than 20 kilometers (12 miles) to a hospital after he took his last breath, as a result of having been injected with a lethal substance," said a statement by the London-based Guernica 37 International Justice Chambers.
"He was not transferred to nearby hospitals, intentionally, until after he had died," added the statement cited by the Middle East Eye (MEE) news and opinion website.
The Egyptian government claimed the 25-year-old had died of a heart attack while driving.
The law firm said, "It is quite clear that certain elements of the state were aware of this fact that is only now coming to light."
Prior to his death, Abdullah had named several individuals, including current Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfiq and Mohammed Shereen Fahmy, the judge who oversaw the Morsi's trial, as "accomplices" in the "liquidation of the martyr, President Morsi."

The reports said the men had been in the custody of the Arakan Army (AA), a Buddhist rebel group calling for greater autonomy for Rakhine, when they made the admissions.
The reports said the men appeared together on the Bangladesh border in mid-August, retelling their stories, and requesting protection.
With their transfer to ICC custody, the soldiers are now potential witnesses to genocide.
The ICC last year approved a long-awaited full investigation into the crimes against the Rohingya minority.

...On Friday, violent protesters came into Ox and Stone and terrorized diners by turning over tables, breaking glass, throwing chairs, and screaming at them that the "party is over." In one harrowing moment, a large man approached a table full of women and swept all the glassware off the table and shattered it all over them.
But even more shocking is that the owners of the three restaurants affected by the rioters issued a statement of support—not for their customers, but for the criminals who terrorized their patrons and destroyed their property. This is not a joke.
Despite what videos might depict, we lost some glassware last night. You cannot deny the anger and hurt our community is feeling right now. As always the actions of a few agitators are amplified louder and louder as videos are shared and conclusions are drawn. We, now and always, stand with those standing against injustice.
Tell me again I should empathize with restaurateurs whose business is hurt by lack of indoor dinning.

But if this is coming down the street it is time for you to go. Don't wait for the waiter, don't wait to pay, time to go. If you don't like the looks of the avenue, go through the restaurant or business and take the back door - remember to check the ally for trouble before letting the door shut behind you as most business back door are locked to the outside.
But that's against the rules! Nope, past that now. Besides, the workers may appreciate the heads-up too; might be the difference in getting the doors locked, kinda important especially if the ally is a no-go.

It tells you who the owners fear more in the moment.
Lots of would-be customers from the area will see this. These words will come at a price. As for those who would still patronize it, BLM/Antifa don't really care, they have other goals in mind that others don't acknowledge yet, and they may well return for an encore, no matter what words the owners used.

^I noticed HR departments were starting to become leftist back in 2002, which was my last job as a software engineer. I got pulled into HR at a subsidiary of PNC Bank. I knew I was going to be quitting so I said in front of Ms. Donahue (not at her) in a soft voice - 'So this is where they stick all the useless people'. Walked outta there with only a warning.
