As with China, Turkey continues isolating itself. The only deterring to Turkey's efforts and China's most certainly would be strength. Natural alliance between Iran and Turkey's ambitions would in my opinion produce an unnatural sustainable ersatz union.
[NY Post] Protests in Paris erupted in violence on Saturday as hundreds of rioters took to the streets amid a heavy police presence and clouds of teargas to drive back the protestors.
Videos uploaded to Twitter showed black-clad rioters stomping on a parked car and later setting it on fire. Another video showed an elderly man intervening to stop a rioter from smashing a car, only to be shoved to the ground by the rioter.
By 1 p.m. Paris time, police had made more than 150 arrests, mainly on concealed weapons charges, according to a tweet from Paris police that also showed an image of the knives, sticks and mallets they had seized from the demonstrators.
The black-clad anarchists who rampaged through city streets mixed with hundreds of peaceful protestors who were demanding social justice and increased environmental protections.
Jean-Marie Bigard, a comedian and self-appointed presidential candidate for the Gilets Jaunes, or Yellow Jackets, was booed by members of the Yellow Jackets at one of the marches in Paris, and called a "collaborator" after he distanced himself from one of the leaders who referred to the police as "Nazis." Bigard had to take refuge in a cafe after protestors threatened him, according to French news reports.
The national day of protests were called by the movement after a hiatus during the coronavirus lockdown. Several hundred protestors gathered near two squares in Paris, where stores had been boarded up with plywood in anticipation of the authorized marches. Police had banned the group's protests two years ago when rioting against the government of French President Emmanuel Macron turned violent.

Something just doesn't ring true with this story. Yellow Jackets are black clad? They are burning cars? They are calling the police Nazis? That sounds more like Antifa infiltrators than it does Yellow Jacket protestors.
#2
The politicians in Paris hate the Yellow Jackets. They are probably eagerly blaming riots caused by other people on them, instead of the usual Marxist suspects.
Usually the Gilets Jaunes are referred to in English as Yellow Vests, named for the yellow reflective safety vests every car owner is required to have in his trunk for roadside emergencies. They started out spontaneously protesting every weekend against President Macron’s financial cost-cutting in an attempt to get closer to balancing the French national government budget, including raising the age for full pension payments and reducing government payroll and benefits. Eventually the small business owners who were the core of the original protesters faded away, replaced by the usual Black Bloc types who in America now call themselves Antifa.

Good recapitulation, TW. If I may add another tidbit, Macron wanted to raise fuel taxes, but that would have mainly affected people who had to drive (i.e., practical access to public trans) and also farmers versus the city dwellers who had the various public transportation systems available. It was a truly grass-roots movement but not without attempts at being co-opted (Marine Le Pen, for one).
The French do have a penchant for protests. Perhaps Zhou Enlai's statement "too early too tell" was correct after all.
But, Mr. Sheriff, you've been tolerating illegal activity, including arson, for months. Why should any citizen assume you're going to enforce the law now?
[KGW] Multnomah County [Portland area] Sheriff's Office says several groups of citizens have created illegal checkpoints in Corbett [a little town near Portland apparently populated by Americans] amid a historic wildfire event.
A fire was intentionally set Friday in Corbett by someone using an illegal firework.
Shortly after, some citizens living in rural areas of Multnomah County set up "checkpoints" and were "stopping cars." Deputies got reports the individuals who set up these roadblocks were armed and were checking the identification of passing drivers. Sounds like a peaceful protest to me. On the lookout for white supremacists, they were.
The sheriff's office says they have deputies patrolling the area and through the end of the weekend. Anyone who sets up these illegal roadblocks is subject to citation or arrest. Sheriff Mike Reese said the sheriff's office will not tolerate any illegal activity.

[KUOW.ORG] This week the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle announced its eighth arrest related to events during this summer’s protests against racism and police brutality.Defense attorneys say the Justice Department is going out of its way to try to discredit the protests.
But U.S. Attorney Brian Moran said his Seattle office is focused on cases like arson or firearms violations that he says are hurting the protest message.
That includes the big protest in Seattle the night of May 30. People took guns out of police vehicles and set the cars on fire, leading to three federal cases so far.
The next night, a man was arrested after being accused of striking a police officer in the face with a can of beer, and of carrying an improvised firearm.
Stephanie Knightlinger, a senior deputy prosecutor with the King County Prosecutors Office, said she was preparing to charge that man, Devinare Parker, in King County Superior Court.
"We really worked with the Seattle police detective," Knightlinger said. "We had to make sure he did things like test-fire the firearm, it was an unusual sawed-off homemade shotgun that [Parker] brought to this protest."
But then she found out that federal prosecutors were reviewing Parker’s case.
"They simply say, look we’re interested in this case, we want to look at the firearm," she said.
Moran's office charged Parker with possession of a destructive device, and the state charges were dismissed. Parker is now in federal custody.
Moran, the U.S. attorney for western Washington, said that he’s horror-stricken at the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, and that he's determined to protect First Amendment rights. But he said some acts committed during the Seattle protests are taking away from those conversations.
"It’s destructive to that important conversation that we in Seattle have had going on since Jenny Summer of Love Durkan ...Democrat Maress of Seattle, who allowed a chunk of the downtown of her city to be turned into an autonomous combat zone... was U.S. attorney with the consent decree. So, lots of emotions," he said. "And unfortunately what I’m spending most of my time on now is the criminal agitators and not the more important message of, what do we need to do to get this ship righted."

However, after 3 months of violent riots & no right-wing militia in sight ...
That's because they ate their own bullshit whole that there is 'right-wing militia' around every corner just itching to start mass lynching - and they are too stupid to realize they'd been lied to all this time.

#7 That why I added "(things Ds passionately believe)". There are no right wing militias - IMO, if there were, most Democrat politicians would be dead.

Another aim is to have President Trump authorize some sort of action which the Democrats can treat as another Kent State massacre and the press can use in its propaganda against him.
Trump has resisted that, and offers to help only if asked to do so by the state governments.
This is embarrassing the state governments and the entire Democratic Party, which steadfastly, so far, has failed to condemn the widespread destruction of private property that governments are supposed to protect.

Tosun, who did not attend the hearing herself, was found guilty of treating maimed PKK-affiliated fighters in Diyarbakir’s Sur district in 2015 after the collapse of a short-lived grinding of the peace processor between Ankara and the PKK. Some PKK-affiliated young fighters had taken control of Kurdish areas by digging trenches around them. Some were maimed when Ottoman Turkish forces retook the area.
The court ruled that Tosun is a "member of an armed terrorist organization," reported the independent Bianet news outlet.
HDP condemned the ruling as a blow to democracy.
"The sentence given to Tosun is a blow to democratic politics and the will of people. You cannot prevent us from practicing democratic politics or our women’s struggle," the party said in a tweet.
Tosun has the right to appeal the ruling. If that fails, the Ministry of Justice will send a copy of the final court decision to the parliament where her parliamentary immunity could be revoked.
Two other HDP politicians, Leyla Guven and Musa Farisogullari, and a member of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) were impeached in June after convictions in court. [Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) engaged in intense festivities in the Zakho area of Duhok province Friday night, sparking fires that destroyed orchards and farmlands. There were no reported civilian casualties.
"Heavy festivities took place from 10 to 11pm last night between PKK guerillas and the Ottoman Turkish army in the vicinity of several villages in Batifa sub-district," Dilsher Abdulsatarm, mayor of Batifa, told Rudaw on Saturday.
Turkey used "Apache helicopters in the fight" and fired at least 15 missiles, he said. "Six missiles hit the vicinity of Bandur village, three missiles landed at the vicinities of Minin, Pirbil and Avleh. And another six missiles landed around the village of Kashane."
During the firefight, farmland, orchards, and buildings belonging to local villagers caught fire. Video submitted to Rudaw by a villager from Soriya, which also caught fire, shows several buildings burning and the valley filled with smoke.
"Villagers themselves put out the fire," chieftain Badal Murad told Rudaw.
The village had previously been abandoned by its residents because of its proximity to festivities between the PKK and Turkey. The Batifa district, with 27 villages, borders Turkey. Thirteen of the villages have been affected by recent bombardments, according to the mayor.
Turkey has pursued the PKK within the Kurdistan Region for decades and this summer it waged intense air and ground campaigns and pushed very close to heavily populated areas. Eight civilians have been killed during Turkey’s offensive this summer.

[Rudaw] Two explosions took place in the heart of the northern Syria city of Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) on Saturday, killing and injuring a number of civilians, according to media reports.
The explosions rocked two different parts of the city’s bazaar, causing a "large number" of casualties, according to Ottoman Turkish news outlet IHA.
The blasts were caused by improvised bombs, killing two civilians and injuring seven others, according to conflict monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
People injured in the earth-shattering kaboom were taken across the Syria-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor... border to a private hospital in Sanliurfa, IHA also reported.
Sari Kani and the neighbouring city of Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) were captured by Turkey and its Syrian proxies in October 2019, after they attacked the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that previously held the area.
According to a video shared by the Democratic Union Party (PYD), which rules much of northeast Syria (Rojava), several shops were on fire.
It is not yet clear who carried out the attacks, but the area sometimes witnesses festivities between Ottoman Turkish and Turkey-backed forces and the SDF.
Several, similarly deadly attacks have taken place in the city since October 2019.
